Tasted by InVinoMomentum on 11/26/2023 & rated 92 points: poured in large burgundy glasses and let it sit for approx 30-45 minutes before serving it to the dinner guests. paired with a chicken-marsala-stew, it was singing. the harmony between the sweet and bitter notes from the stew and the acidity of the nebbiolo-grapes was very enjoyable. one for the books.  Tasted by DrinkerTrev on 2/5/2023 & rated 93 points: Very earthy wine. Tobacco and old boots even after decanting for 3 hours. Really great and enjoyable but maybe at its peak. Had with bbq steak and some bbq veggies as well. Steamed carrots and beans with lemon and feta. All balanced well together. Dark red wine, low tannins, oak and dark fruit. Pepper and sweet cherry to finish. (188 views)
Tasted by Tag01 on 4/25/2021 & rated 94 points: Colour: med red. Clear, little sediment.
Nose:Bacon grease,black berries, herbs
Taste: silky tannins, dark chocolate, big mouth feel, very long finish.

This is a great bottle of wine that is peaking right now. Still fresh for this age but has tempered out so that it is a fine wine with plenty of punch. Amazing! (394 views)
Tasted by soyhead on 6/26/2020: this wine was singing tonight. rich, almost portlike and oh so smooth. A great barolo unexpectedly presented itself to me. wow. will have to try some of this producers wines (628 views)
Tasted by ChateauDutremble on 12/1/2018 & rated 90 points: Colour light red with a slight orange/brick tinge. At first, it was closed with some earthy notes...very shy. Quite dry with discreet fruit, cherry pit, old leather. Warm with medium finish...expected more. But later with the roast beef, simply delicious as sweet caramel fruit flavours and more spices exploded from the glass!
Simplement délicieux avec le rôti de boeuf saignant...le mariage parfait ! 90+ (873 views)
Tasted by kronfeld on 11/4/2017 & rated 89 points: Bottle maybe slightly flawed -- a bit fizzy, although blew off w aeration. Light-bodied, persistent cherry flavor and nose. Slightly astringent. (1390 views)
Tasted by Le croque bouchon on 10/30/2014 & rated 92 points: Quel nez! Cèdre, fruits noirs (initialement), canneberge, graphite, tabac. En bouche on retrouve ces mêmes saveurs en plus d'herbes séchées (laurier), cerise rouge, fruits sucrés. Les tannins sont encore pointus, mais s'assouplissent après 1-2h décanté. Très beau vin, rond en bouche.
-----
What a nose! Cedar, black fruits (initially), cranberry, graphite, tobacco. On the palate we find these same flavours plus dried herbs (laurel), red cherries, sweet fruit. Tannins are still a little rough initially, but soften after 1-2 hrs decanted. Very nice wine, round. (2618 views)
Tasted by Double-A on 9/30/2014 & rated 95 points: Aromatic, red apple skin, toast, nut, mineral, earth, flint and driftwood node. Elegant and complex structure with a beautiful, dry grip. Long, complex finish.

Nebbiolo

Nebbiolo is a red grape indigenous to the Piedmont region of Italy in the Northwest. The grape can also be found in other parts of the world, though they are not as respected.

Nebbiolo is often considered the "king of red wines," as it is the grape of the famed wines of Barolo DOCG, Barbaresco DOCG, and Roero DOCG. It is known for high tannins and acidity, but with a distinct finesse. When grown on clay, Nebbiolo can be very powerful, tannic, and require long aging periods to reach its full potential. When grown on sand, the grape exhibits a more approachable body with more elegant fruit and less tannins, but still has high aging potential.

"Nebbiolo" is named for the Italian word, "nebbia", which means "fog", in Italian and rightfully so since there is generally a lot of fog in the foothills of Piedmont during harvest.

Nebbiolo is a late-ripening variety that does best in a continental climate that boasts moderate summers and long autumns. In Piedmont, Nebbiolo is normally harvested in October.

Barolo

Regional History:
The wines of Piedmont are noted as far back as Pliny's Natural History. Due to geographic and political isolation, Piedmont was without a natural port for most of its history, which made exportation treacherous and expensive. This left the Piedmontese with little incentive to expand production. Sixteenth-century records show a mere 14% of the Bassa Langa under vine -- most of that low-lying and farmed polyculturally. In the nineteenth century the Marchesa Falletti, a frenchwoman by birth, brought eonologist Louis Oudart from Champagne to create the first dry wines in Piemonte. Along with work in experimental vineyards at Castello Grinzane conducted by Camilo Cavour -- later Conte di Cavour, leader of the Risorgimento and first Prime Minister of Italy -- this was the birth of modern wine in the Piedmont. At the heart of the region and her reputation are Alba and the Langhe Hills. This series of weathered outcroppings south of the Tanaro River is of maritime origin and composed mainly of limestone, sand and clay, known as terra bianca. In these soils -located mainly around the towns of Barolo and Barbaresco -- the ancient allobrogica, now Nebbiolo, achieves its renowned fineness and power.
