Tasted by curtr on 12/31/2023 & rated 94 points: From magnum. Still a bit tannic. Showed best after 2 hours. Drink 2028 to 2041 for magnum. (1026 views)
Tasted by novicemike on 12/27/2023 & rated 94 points: Christmas Eve. Drinking wonderfully right now. Pronounced black fruit aromas with subtle earth notes. Mellow tannins that melt in your mouth allowing the long finish to linger. (695 views)
Tasted by TexasBob on 7/29/2023 & rated 90 points: Deep Red-violet color. Milk chocolate, black pepper, and blackberries. Strong alcohol, almost to the point of distraction. Notes of meat juices, blackberries, and plums . (1065 views)
Tasted by gmbdds on 6/29/2023 & rated 94 points: Not decanted, though a short one for sediment would be helpful. Beautiful red to black berry fruit with licorice hints. Seamlessly integrated yet plenty young. (1001 views)
Tasted by tdoyle@smcdslaw.com on 3/27/2023 & rated 95 points: Extremely fruit forward with compote, almost sweet, dark fruit flavors. Very little tannin. I doubt it will be better with any more aging. (1300 views)
Tasted by gew71walsh on 11/7/2022 & rated 94 points: Drank with 2013 Phelps Insignia and 2010 Gruaud-Larose with beef tenderloin, scalloped potatoes and roasted asparagus. All were great with different profiles. This was dark purple in glass, blackberries and currants on nose and palate. Medium acidity, integrated tannins. Chewy on the medium long finish. Decanted for two hours, drank over two hours. (1343 views)
Tasted by jlgnml on 7/19/2022 & rated 92 points: Decanted for 30 min. Had with delicious burgers. Solid black fruit, good earthy tones, over time in the glass lost its body, weight wise on the palate. Was good for a awhile and then seem to drift off. Love the vintage but not this wine. Drink/sell (1678 views)
Tasted by Wpeluch on 4/8/2022: Very nice
Plenty of time on it (1553 views)
Tasted by Bob23 on 2/22/2022 & rated 93 points: Very tasty - not sure the juice is totally worth the squeeze, but i won't say no if you want to pour me another glass. (1565 views)
Tasted by Mark1npt on 12/17/2021 & rated 95 points: This has settled in very nicely......Slow ox x 2 hours, then enjoyed over 3-4 more. Great from the pnp, fantastic nose, just classic red/black fruit, flowers and lead pencil. Fruit lends more to the red side than anything else. Did not improve much over the airtime, but was very consistent. A very nice wine in a great drinking window right now. I would suggest drinking them now rather than waiting another 4-5 years......though they certainly can go that far. (3196 views)
Tasted by Niagara on 10/11/2021 & rated 92 points: Not sure I see the value here. Decent but not a $200+ wine IMO. (1749 views)
Tasted by lewisrise on 6/4/2021 & rated 97 points: The wine is deep purple with medium plus intensity developing aromas of violets, blackberry, black currant, raspberry, pomegranate, tobacco, tar. This is a dry wine with high alcohol and medium acidity. The wine has medium tannins and his full-bodied with flavors of blackberry, black currant, raspberry, tar, tobacco, vanilla. The wind has a long finish and is outstanding quality. Drink now but has potential for aging. (1968 views)
Tasted by eschuldt on 5/15/2021 & rated 93 points: Opened up nicely at the 2hr mark but missing complexity and depth. (1802 views)
Tasted by Red Sox Fan on 2/15/2021 & rated 93 points: Best with 1 or 2 hours of air. Seems to get a little raw and tannic after that. (1922 views)
Tasted by LiteItOnFire on 5/16/2020 & rated 92 points: The wine dramatically improved but still not worth the price of entry. (3590 views)
Tasted by Kdad on 4/18/2020 & rated 96 points: Wow. First hits you with black fruit. Then a ever so light tannin finish.
Loved this. (2173 views)
Tasted by csimm on 5/20/2019 & rated 94 points: Wonderful black currant and crunchy blackberry notes, with a bit of a hardened minerality streak that kept the delivery fairly linear and somewhat primary. There is definitely sophistication and focus here, but it’s a little edgy and angular still; it’ll likely require a few more years in-bottle until it stops behaving like Dolph Lungren’s jawline. 94++ with certain upside. Hold until 2022. (4903 views)
Tasted by LiteItOnFire on 11/10/2018 & rated 90 points: Great night with friends. No notes. Each wine had about 30 minute decant unless otherwise noted. No clue how to do user story. 2010 Schrader GIII, 2009 Abreau, 2013 Staglin, 2015 Beast, 2015 Maybach A, 2015 Lewis Cellars Syrah, 2016 Carter Las Piedras La Bam.

Staglin as of late has not been up to the same level as many of the ‘newer’ winemakers evolution (felt this was about Shafer as well). Have now tried ‘12, ‘13 and ‘14 and IMO has not evolved in style and not worth the price point. Not sure if this will benefit from age as there does not seem to be enough fruit to hold it all together. (4009 views)
Tasted by Bigtuna on 8/3/2018 & rated 92 points: PNP, Good cork, surprising approachable. Soft tannins, fairly well balanced, good fruit but not over the top, 92 (3442 views)
Tasted by NUGE63 on 7/3/2018 & rated 96 points: Huge nose and long legs. Hearty middle that sits nice on the pallet. And big finish with softening tannins. Every glass better than the next. Wish I could have bought more of this when we visited but expensive. Nice treat for my wife and I (2946 views)
Tasted by beatles on 11/16/2017 & rated 94 points: Blackberry galore, concentrated, sweet – but in harmony. Some tannins at the end. Fine balance, Very rich, very American in an unbridled way, virtually unchanged on Day 2.
#X-Pensive Winos go west (3867 views)
Tasted by Badmonkey on 10/1/2017 & rated 92 points: A neighbor brought this over. Dark purple fruit - blackberry, currants, dark raspberry, and a little dark plum. Fairly rich. Smooth mid-palate coupled with solid depth. Nice flavors of dark berries and a little spice. However, I thought the finish was somewhat lacking - fairly short and not much depth. Drank next to a 2013 Carter Weitz cab and I thought the Weitz was quite a bit better - in particular a longer/deeper finish. Popped and poured but drank out of a decanter for around three hours. Improved a little with time and maybe a longer decant would have helped. In all, a solid cab but I guess I expected more in light of the 95 to 97 rating from Parker and also the price point. In my opinion, more so in line with the 92 rating from WS. 87% cab, 7% cab franc, and 6% petit verdot. (4600 views)
Tasted by GTFreek on 9/28/2017: 24 months 95% new oak, then 12-14 months in bottle. Deep, dark nose, black plum, mocha, coffee ground, graphite, blackberry, potpourri. Palate is very serious, layered black fruits, spices, clove, peppercorn, all with an elegance that isn't overpowering, velvety tannins and easy, long finish. (2591 views)
Tasted by csimm on 9/1/2017 & rated 96 points: Staglin (Rutherford): I was quite impressed with this wine. Not my preferred style in some respects, with a more reserved, classical profile on the attack. Yet, the delineation of flavors was extremely precise and ultra-focused. This had a laser-like cut that was beautifully balanced and silky smooth. Young indeed; in fact, leave this alone for another 5+ years minimum (7-9 years might even be more prudent). However, this wine showed huge potential in the way that it delivered its black currant, black raspberry, graphite, lead, dark bitter chocolate, and some really faint spice flavors.

What was most notable was the utter balance, purity, and exactness how the flavors arrived on the palate. Not an attack, but more of a symmetrical march of tiered notes. This had a super expensive mouthfeel 95-96++ points (pushing 97+), with huge upside after 2023+. (3917 views)

WOTN.
Mom and Pop winery. 100% organic. Vineyard is tended by David Abreu.
Sweet but not over the top. Toasty tannins. It all adds up (in a good way, naah mean). Class.

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

Estate

In the United States, "Wines with “estate bottled” designations must: a) also designate an appellation of origin or an AVA, and both the vineyards and the winery must be located there; b) the grapes must come from vineyards owned or controlled by the winery; and c) the wine must have been produced, from crush to bottle, in a continuous process without leaving the winery’s premises."

- WINE LABEL FAQS: A QUICK SUMMARY OF LABEL DESIGNATION RULES" by David E. Stoll

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

California

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
