| Tasted by Rieslingfan on 4/19/2021: I liked this more three years ago, but it’s still very pure and minerally. It just feels a little heavier. I miss the freshness, but am still impressed by the overall depth. Good for contemplation. (2014 views) |
| Tasted by bklynwine on 10/4/2019: Youthful riesling fruit, pure and elegant on nose, a bit watery mid-palate; pleasant, integrated acidity, not screechy; the kind of riesling that's equally enjoyable with or without food, just lacking some concentration (2150 views) |
| Tasted by Rieslingfan on 12/14/2018: Precise, elegant and understated, the 2006 Vom Stein does not command an audience, it rather encourages contemplation. It’s really more of a springtime wine, when it would fit the new growth and coming warmth. But it’s still delicious in winter, with a combination of citrus, mineral and light honey tones. Nice to see a federspiel over the course of twelve years from the vintage. Wines don’t have to be big to age well. (2560 views) |
| Tasted by mattstolz11 on 9/3/2018 & rated 90 points: Pretty wine that was a solid value. still youthful and vibrant, with crisp but restrained acidity and minerality. ginger and pear with a touch of honey, very little in the way of petrol notes here. (2323 views) |
| Tasted by Bob H on 4/10/2018: Tried side-by-side with the 2012; a focused nose with crisp apple fruit.
Light-bodied with good supporting acidity - these are both excellent, and I'm not sure I could pick a favorite right now. (2740 views) |
| Tasted by Bob H on 1/2/2017: I pulled this to try side-by-side with the 2015. Maybe a shade lighter than that wine. The nose here has more of a ripe tropical fruit nuance, but is similarly focused/pure.
Tart and crisp on the palate - this is quite good, but in retrospect I should have tried this wine first, because the 2015 is really strutting it's stuff for such a young wine, and this wine is unfortunately caught in that wine's "shadow", for lack of a better descriptor. (2915 views) |
| Tasted by dlduchon on 1/1/2017 & rated 86 points: Light bodied, with restrained flavors and a bit soft on the finish, giving the perception of being a touch off balanced. (2459 views) |
| Tasted by Bob H on 3/4/2016: Maybe a shade lighter in the glass than the 2012 was; another great nose here, one that I sometimes refer to as a white fruit cocktail in a slate bowl.
Seamless on the palate, fully mature, and a pleasure to drink right now. A finishing note of acerbity that adds to the overall impact of the wine - very likable, and nice to be able to try the two wines side-by-side. (3104 views) |
| Tasted by Pknut on 11/12/2015: Notwithstanding the old debate as to whether people can actually smell sweetness, this smells sweet to me. Touch of petrol/musky funk. Showing some age and not as much cut and acidity as expected. Good, but I prefer more cut. Canton Lounge. (3353 views) |
| Tasted by Eric Guido on 6/19/2015 & rated 92 points: The nose showed dried apricot and peach with crushed flowers, stone and exotic spice. It was unexpectedly dry on the palate yet with nervy acidity providing lift and juicy quality, showing saturating minerality, apricot and spice. The finish was long with floral tones and palate-coating minerals. (3536 views) |
| Tasted by sharonandroland on 5/2/2015 & rated 90 points: Delicate mountain herbs aromas. Very mineral. (2327 views) |
| Tasted by Soteriologist on 10/9/2014: ATTENTION please: This page only refers to bottlings prior to 2014, and as far as I know there was only one bottling of this prior to 2014, and that was 2007. The bottling of 2014 is the otherwise same wine which has spent over 7 years in oak and would definitely be underrated here if lumped in with the earlier bottlings. Here it is:
The 2014 bottling of the 2006 Nikolaihof Riesling Federspiel Vom Stein

| Tasted by Soteriologist on 10/7/2014: OK, I moved this TN to the proper place. See above note. (2749 views) |
| Tasted by Bob H on 7/24/2014: Light yellow-gold in the glass; pineapple accent over white fruits on the nose.
Delicious - I realize that this is not the most descriptive word one could use in a TN, but it's the first thing that popped into my mind. Brisk acidity frames the fruit, nice persistence on the finish - my better half and I just killed this bottle paired with pork loin in a rosemary/mustard marinade, and the wine was a perfect match for the dish.
Screw-capped. (2544 views) |
| Tasted by rjonwine@gmail.com on 1/27/2014 & rated 91 points: Very light yellow color; maturing, aromatic, yeasty nose; tasty, savory, mineral, tart pear palate; medium-plus finish (1540 views) |
| Tasted by Vintomas on 11/21/2013 & rated 87 points: Austrian Riesling with AuZone (AuZone, Stockholm): Nose with blackcurrant buds, some citrus, some perfume and flowery notes, some mineral. Dry palate that is rather mineral-dominated, high acidity. 87 p (2965 views) |
| Tasted by Anton_Wallin on 11/17/2013 & rated 91 points: Clean, fresch and elegant. Aromatic and perfumed riesling aromas with pleasant mouth feel and balance. This is really good! (2350 views) |
| Tasted by Magners on 11/2/2013 & rated 87 points: Lovely mix of rich fruit, salty minerals and bitter herbs. Good concentration, some development already and great acidity that balances some sweetness. Far from being an outstanding wine but generous and interesting. Great value also. (2020 views) |
| Tasted by Riccardo Malocchio on 9/21/2013 & rated 91 points: Lovely nose and palate of white florals, green orchard fruit, slate minerality, and smoke. Tense and lively on the palate, totally dry, and just beginning to develop some mature notes. Very precise and seamless, seeming more cool vintage than many 06s. (2299 views) |
| Tasted by zscheiner on 4/12/2011 & rated 88 points: Austrian Rieslings Part I (Vin Vino Wine, Palo Alto, CA): Tight nose, minerals and a bit of petrol/rubber balloon. Austere to start on the palate without much fruit, medium+_acidity and some lemon pith bitterness. This improved with air though, the acidity and bitterness integrated and nice minerality showed through. Give this some air. (3361 views) |
| Tasted by 3daywinereview.com on 7/23/2010 & rated 93 points: Artisan Vineyards/ Haskell's Tasting (Minneapolis): Apricots, floral, lemon pie and slate. Super finish. (4282 views) |
| Tasted by tarheel17 on 12/13/2009: Blind Riesling Tasting (My house): nose: floral, mineral, I guessed alsacian palate: viscouse yet fully dry, this was hard to evaluate after the JJ Prums. Lemon dirt and smoky apple finish was definitely interesting. I'd like to try this again in different company. (3157 views) |

| Tasted by drwine2001 on 4/11/2009: From magnum. Very light yellow. Full bodied wine with green papaya and intense minerality. Once again, very good. (2601 views) |
| Tasted by drwine2001 on 1/20/2009: Dungeness Crab and Riesling (Thanh Long, San Francisco): Straw colored. Fascinating nose of crushed herbs. Light, lively, and intensely mineral. Delightful. (2789 views) |
