Great food wine (1234 views) | | Tasted by bacchus on 9/12/2015 & rated 90 points: shared with pat at selkirk manor. this wine caught my eye on the drink by list and i decided that it was time to see what the famous C du P 2007 vintage was all about. cork was intact. no penetration. heavy sedimentation in the bottle required a gentle pour. did not decant. still youthful but approachable. purple color. fragrant. flowery. light to medium body. short finish. probably not the best of the vintage but good qpr at this price point. (3611 views) | | Tasted by Old Amarone on 6/16/2015 & rated 91 points: Great fruit, long smooth finish! (3879 views) | | Tasted by Hamilton1 on 1/26/2013 & rated 90 points: Drank a glass with a ribeye, which proved to be too overpowering for the wine. It was considerably better after dinner, revealing pleasant fruit. A decent CdP for the price, particularly for those who like a more restrained style. (5355 views) | | Tasted by defnefferson on 12/12/2012 & rated 91 points: Notes consistent with the prior bottle, though the fruit is a bit more subdued, and the savory components seem better integrated. Still a great bottle. (5347 views) | | Tasted by Quarked on 7/7/2012: I have yet to find a '07 CdP that I like, that isn't bitter, and hollow in the mid-palate. This particular one was merely OK on the second night but unpleasant on the first. I am chalking this up to being a supertaster with an oversensitive bitterness receptor (which I why I hate chocolate) but I'm not enjoying these. Does anyone else taste this? (4875 views) | | Tasted by Pour Boy on 12/11/2011 & rated 91 points: Outstanding CDP for the money. Wish I'd bought more. If nothing else, this bottle proves how accessible the 2007 vintage is. (3581 views) | | Tasted by defnefferson on 12/3/2011 & rated 92 points: Phenomenal bottle of wine for the price ($22). I paid 30 for this a year ago, and even then it's a great QPR. Popped and poured at a restaurant--it literally only took 5 minutes for this wine to open up into a cornucopia of flavor and aroma. The nose is sweet cherries with a bit of earth and clove. On the palatte it's delicious red fruit, a nice earthy backbone and some more spice. Finish is sweet and long. Nice acidity on this wine as well. (3343 views) | | Tasted by mguglielmo on 9/10/2011 & rated 92 points: Incredible QPR for a CdP. Rich, expressive, loads of dark fruit. Fantastic earthy backbone typical of the region, and my favorite part, a cocoa/espresso-like character during a perfectly lengthy finish. This wine seems like it's in its perfect drinking window but will probably still improve (or at least stay this good) for a few years to come). Will absolutely be buying more. (2414 views) | | Tasted by rod.gibson on 4/18/2011 & rated 89 points: Very smooth. (1919 views) | | Tasted by wino_tim on 3/25/2011 & rated 92 points: A traditional style, but showing the flamboyant fruit of the vintage, this offers big, bright aromas of black fruit, herb, blood, meat, and garrigue. Full bodied and rich on the palate, but well-balanced with acidity, this fills the mouth with plush black fruit and earth flavors. (2111 views) | | Tasted by Eric Guido on 8/26/2010 & rated 89 points: The nose shows plum sauce, blackberry fruits, lavender and rock dust. On the palate, I found rich red fruits, sweet oak and rosemary but this wine lacks depth. The finish is quite nice and juicy, which give this bottle some extra appeal.
In the end, it's a nice bottle for the price, of easy drinking Châteauneuf. (2330 views) | | Tasted by dwoody on 2/27/2010 & rated 90 points: Vivid dark red. Lots of red fruit and violets on the nose. Very fruit forward right now with loads of kirsch, rasberry, and a flowers. Not much else going on right now but all that pretty fruit. But all in balance. Finishes a tad hot. Needs a year or 2 to integrate and shed some heat. (2268 views) |

A 'food' wine. Lacking pretension and intended for local consumption with local cuisine. Lacks the 'high' notes on a Bordeaux, more earthy and sharper so often a better partner to meat dishes with a sauce. "As I have written many times in the past, the sweet spot for drinking Châteauneuf du Papes is usually the first 5-6 years after the vintage. Then they seem to go through an adolescent, awkward, and sometimes dormant stage, only to re-emerge around year 10-12, where the majority of wines are often fully mature. The best of them will continue to hold on to life (but rarely improving) beyond 15-20 years. It is only the exceptional Châteauneuf du Papes that will evolve for 20-25+ years, and those are indeed a rarity. However, things may be improving dramatically in terms of the longevity of Châteauneuf du Pape, although Grenache-dominated wines, the vast majority of wines produced in the appellation, are wines that do not have the polyphenol (extract and tannin) content of top Cabernet Sauvignons, Merlots, or Syrah-based wines. Nevertheless, the younger generation in Châteauneuf du Pape has taken seriously the farming in the vineyards. There are more organic and biodynamically run vineyards here than in any other appellation of France. The yields, which were already low, are even lower today (20-35 hectoliters per hectare), and of course, the proliferation of top luxury and/or old-vine cuvées gives a significant boost to the number of wines that will evolve past 25 or 30 years. The advantage of these wines is their broad window of drinkability." - Robert Parker
