Tasted by KJD45$ on 11/24/2023 & rated 92 points: While very good
It didn’t rise to excellent for me tonight…
Didn’t get the peppery bacon notes
Nearing prime time imo (2317 views)
Tasted by benjaminbilliard on 9/24/2023 & rated 90 points: Young still I believe (2611 views)
Tasted by Chimer on 7/22/2023 & rated 92 points: Lovely dark fruit, plenty of layers of flavour and subtle tannins, approachable now but no rush (3004 views)
Tasted by Seth Rosenberg on 5/13/2023: Pretty nose - dark fruit, some violet, Palate is deep, sweet dark black beet and blueberry. Violets - def a bit modern but still excellent. (3533 views)
Tasted by SimonG on 4/21/2023 & rated 92 points: Xavier Gerard and Will Arnold (Noizé, London): Dense, dark ruby. Crème de mûre. Denser and darker. On the palate too. Just a fine lick of tannin providing an obvious structural edge. Dense and polished behind the tannins. Rounded. **** (3444 views)
Tasted by pclin on 1/13/2023 & rated 89 points: PnP. Still some oaks yet to be integrated. Rather sweet on the palate, almost too sweet, a very polished and new worldish style of Cotie Rotie. Hmmmm (3161 views)
Tasted by fussyeater on 12/21/2022: Crimson red in colour. Nose shows dark fruits, black olive and a little earth. Supple tannins with some crunchiness whilst the fruit feels restrained, and not going out of its way to please. A foursquare Cote Rotie that seems at least half a decade from beginning its tertiary journey and perhaps not in its most expressive phase. Decanted perhaps 90 mins ahead of drinking from Zalto Bordeaux. (2949 views)
Tasted by NickA on 12/21/2022 & rated 91 points: Nice slightly modern Northern Rhone, with plenty of classical flavours in a well-mannered package. Black olive, dark fruit, lovely balance, and all in all rather polished even though there was no obvious oak. Tannins were unobtrusive after an hour in a decanter. Good with the food and likely to be popular with most who try it, but will need more time to become properly interesting. (2910 views)
Tasted by KJD45$ on 11/13/2022 & rated 92 points: Nose is black pepper and raspberry…..
Good flavor but lacks wow factor at this stage,….
Felt like it could use a couple more years.. (2635 views)
 Tasted by pren on 10/30/2022 & rated 88 points: 非常rich,fruity的酒,些微品种特征,不太好。 (2760 views)
Tasted by pclin on 10/13/2022 & rated 92 points: A bottle opened 3 days ago. Beautiful floral nose, fairly expressive and clean. Spicy tannins with a touch of warmth at finish reflecting the hot vintage. Still primary. A new worldish and polished style of CR. (2836 views)
Tasted by adnorthup on 8/24/2022: 4.5 hours in the decanter. Beautifully ripe blue and purple fruits. Loads of olive/earth/bacon fat notes. Classic Cote Rotie, just showing the vintage the slightest little bit, but it works with the wine overall. Great value, good wine, long life ahead. (2912 views)
Tasted by pclin on 6/17/2022 & rated 92 points: PnP. ABV 14.5%. Bought many vintages of this wine but have never opened any so far. Dark soils and flower notes on the nose, fairly expressive. Fine tannins, firm mid-palate, and surprisingly approachable from get-go. Lively acidity. Despite a very hot year and with 14.5% alcohol, just showing a touch of warmth at finish, very good. A polished and refined Cote Rotie, well made and a fine drink. Even more expressive nose on the 2nd day, very nice. (2909 views)
Tasted by DoubleMagnum on 4/26/2022 & rated 90 points: Deep dark color. Slightly muted nose. A bit too extracted for me. It needs time to shed some weight and develop some tertiaries. I think it has substance for improvement with some sleep time. (3295 views)
Tasted by Bakerbd on 3/15/2022 & rated 92 points: Blackberry liqueur, raw steak, tapenade, fine firm tannin, med + acid. This needs at least another 5 yrs (3442 views)
Tasted by Jyri Tynkkynen on 12/13/2021: Corked (3809 views)
Tasted by David J Cooper on 11/6/2021 & rated 92 points: Dark red. Warm earth, red berry, roasted meat, and tire shop. Delicious berry fruit flavours and a quite tannic finish.

Just beginning to develop. (3734 views)
Tasted by apple1813 on 5/19/2021 & rated 92 points: 2015 Xavier Gerard Côte-Rôtie was layered and ripe, reflective of the hot and dry vintage conditions in the region. The developing Syrah was clear and medium ruby in colour without any sediments. Freshly uncorked, there were notes of black olives, smoke and liquoirce. With two hours of aeration, aromas of blackberry, raspberry jam, crushed violet and raw meat emerged.

The mouthfeel was dry and full-bodied, with medium level of balanced acidity and medium-high level of chewy tannin. Flavours of ripe red cherries and forest berries transitioned into black pepper spices and wet stone minerals in a long compelling finish. The alcohol level was at 14.5%. It definitely had more weight and concentration than the same wine from the 2016 vintage, albeit at the expense of an additional 1.5 percent in alcohol. The alcoholic sensation did not bother me too much, as it was matched by the intense ripe fruits and stony minerality. (4692 views)
Tasted by grafstrb on 4/16/2021 & rated 90 points: -- decanted 1.5 hours before initial taste --
-- tasted non-blind over a couple hours --

NOSE: dark; brooding; mix of olive and tar; fruits come across as ripe/baked/dark --- dark raspberry dominates; a touch floral.

BODY: medium-full bodied; violet-garnet color of great depth.

TASTE: "dark"; smoky; and dark-fruited; hint of olive; gentle, medium-fine tannins; adequate acidity; alc. is a touch noticeable. Fully primary, and a bit clumsy, at the moment. Best to Hold.

Tasted by Andice on 2/15/2021 & rated 91 points: A lot of material here that needs to unwind but no doubt it is high quality. You can just sense the polish beneath the dense vintage and smooth tannins. Revisit (4781 views)
Tasted by Satoshi Nakamoto on 1/23/2021: Tight and fairly unyielding, but hey, I wanted to go down memory lane. Lovely aromatics, but just not very giving on the palate. Put it through a few hours of decanting and it opened up a bit, but this is definitely too young to be fully enjoyed. Moderate pleasure, at best. Unless you’re feeling sentimental like me, don’t touch a bottle for at least another five years.

Yolo! (4506 views)
Tasted by Kirks on 12/26/2020 & rated 91 points: Smagt med Coravin. Meget elegant, dejlig smag, noget syre og en hel del frugt. (4024 views)
Tasted by GL Rhone on 12/24/2020 & rated 93 points: Two hours in décanter prior to service. Powerful, open nose of mainly rich primary fruit tones, juicy red and dark berries, hint of bacon fat. Palate has terrific mid-palate concentration, firm yet elegant and svelte structure, pounding juicy berries with a hint of thyme emerging on the long finish. Super Côte Rôtie from a warm vintage that I’m certain has a long and distinguished future ahead! (3689 views)
Tasted by jhw425 on 12/1/2020 & rated 89 points: Very 2015. All fruit with some rocks thrown in but mostly fruit. Fun to drink but not very complex at this stage

Not sure where this one goes. Maybe drink now or wait till 2030? (4194 views)
Tasted by Bromie on 8/23/2020 & rated 91 points: I had meant to drink a different bottle - had I read the tasting comments I’d have waited! Decanted for 2 hours. Loads of fruit with some fine tannins. A little sweetness but still only primary flavours. Agree with other comments to wait a while before drinking the next one (3864 views)

Syrah

Varietal article (Wikipedia) | (Wines Northwest)

Note that some producers in the Northern Rhone distinguish between simply Syrah and "Serine", the latter described as ‘an ancient clone of Syrah, the berries of which are more oval-shaped and less deeply pigmented than Syrah’ by producer Tardieu-Laurent.

Northern Rhône

Guide to the wines and appellations of the Northern Rhone Valley -

The Rhône Valley/Le Vins de la Vallée du Rhône (Comité Interprofession des vins AOC Côtes et vallée du Rhône)

Regional History:
Phocaean Greeks established viticulture in the Rhone as far back as 600 BC, but until the 14th century the wines were not seen outside the region. The establishment of the Avignonese Papacy (1305-1377) brought fame to the region's wine-so much so that their Burgundian neighbors to the north banned wines from the Rhone in 1446, a measure that effectively cut off trade with England and other Northern European markets for over 200 years. Stretching southward from Lyon to just south of Avignon, the Rhone produces a wide variety of wines, with the appellations north of Valence producing the least (in volume), and the towns south of Montelimar producing prodigious amounts. As in other regions, the most interesting wines come from small farms. Saint-Joseph, in the northern Rhone, extends for some distance between Condrieu in the north to Saint-Peray in the south. The reds are made from Syrah and the rare whites from Marsanne and Roussanne, and Viognier.

Côte-Rôtie

Guide to Cote Rotie - Read about the Northern Rhone Valley

• The Appellation cover three communes - Saint-Cyr-sur-Rhône, Ampuis and Tupin-Semons - on the right Rhône river bank, within the Rhône "département".

• Soils : In the northern part of the vineyard, the Côte Brune, consists of extremely steep, terraced slopes of ferruginous mica schists which are covered with schist sand (arzel). The Côte Blonde has a varied geology with gneiss and granite predominating at the most southern side of the appellation.

• Climate : tempered continental. Dry, hot summers and frequent rainfalls during the other seasons. History : one of the oldest vineyards in France, first developed by the Romans. It is said that during the Middle Ages, "The Seigneur de Maugiron" bequeathed a hillside to each of his daughters, one was brunette and the other fair. Thus, were born the names of "Côte Brune" and "Côte Blonde".

• Area planted : 230 hectares (568 acres), for an annual production of 8,400 hectoliters (93,333 cases). Authorized maximum yield is 40 hectoliters/hectare (2,3 US tons/acre).

• Grape Varieties : Syrah (80% minimum). An addition of up to 20% of Viognier grapes in the crop is allowed.
