Community Tasting Notes (average 91.3 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 9 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by LeroyHilarious on 2/27/2022: Golden color. Long gone. (382 views)
Tasted by beezer6 on 10/7/2010 & rated 92 points: Andrew and Brad purchased this from the winery on the Wildfire trip a couple years ago and gave it to me for my birthday. We were long awaiting the day when it made sense to crack the cork. Bears versus Packers on Monday Night Football...when could be better?!
Dark gold color. Some very slightly reductive notes. Yellow apple, honey, oak, wet dark rock, pineapple and golden fig. On the back end there's a distinct aroma of yellow flowers - daffodils. Palate is weighty, fat and flashy. Nice roasted nutty depth - almonds, yellow raisins, vanilla and peach fuzz flavors on the front palate. The wine attacks sweet with a solid full mid palate. Great acid on the finish. Can sense the French Oak influence on the juice. More tropical than citrus fruit, but there's absolutely both present. Real pretty and real big. Enjoyed by all. (3948 views)
Tasted by gdm1 on 5/8/2009 & rated 90 points: A hint of minerality and nice aromas of citrus. (4362 views)
Tasted by rloomis on 6/10/2008 & rated 90 points: linden and acacia. ripe round fruit but in good balance with modest oak adding a touch of vanilla to give a citrus custard note. new world fumé blanc at the top of its game. (4169 views)
Tasted by rloomis on 3/30/2008 & rated 89 points: like the fume blanc reserve: fragrant linden and acacia tree, mandarin orange.
But, with lots more of it with more complex, longer finish. More crisp and mineral, feels hotter and a bit more angular up front than the regular reserve that is a bit rounder and softer. (4190 views)

Varietal Character

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
