Tasted by Insane Diego on 12/3/2018 & rated 90 points: Very good. Surprisingly drinkable still. Opened 1 hour prior to dinner and decanted. Good nose and good finish. Nice balance of tannins. (956 views)
Tasted by JayAAllen on 6/18/2011 & rated 90 points: A little hot on opening, this wine evened out very quickly in the glass. Great fruit, velvety texture. A great treat from an inexpensive wine. Sorry it's my last bottle! (3997 views)
Tasted by isaacjamesbaker on 3/20/2010 & rated 90 points: med purple color. nose: sweet cherries, cola, a bit of alcohol. wow, this is still big on the palate. holding up very well. this is big, with sturdy tannins and a ripe, chewy mouthfeel. lots of black cherries and vanilla coke but there's also some really nice spicy, kind of grilled herb notes and a dead ringer for teriyaki beef jerky, seriously. a really delicious and unique flavor. a hint of dark coffee on the finish. i also like that this wine actually has good acid as well, making it refreshing. i was surprised by how ingtriguing this wine was. grenache, syrah, mourvedre, counouise. (4332 views)
Tasted by Go Blue on 1/18/2010 & rated 89 points: Agree with other postings. (4552 views)
Tasted by PIntag on 10/12/2009 & rated 88 points: Popped the 2007 version of this wine last weekend so I thought I'd open my last bottle of the 2005 for comparison. Cherry and a bit of alcohol on the nose. On the palate, nice Rhone flavors with the bright red fruit from the Grenache being primary and some nice secondary dark fruit flavors and some noticeable, but not overpowering, oak. Full mid-palate with smooth mouthfeel but the finish is somewhat hot which prevents this wine from scoring a 90 for me. Pretty nice effort and definitely superior to the 2007. (4675 views)
Tasted by hutch on 12/9/2008 & rated 87 points: On the nose, good fruit, maybe a touch of some smoked pork products. Nice berry fruit on the palate. Solid, if a little simple. It's tough, because there are so many CDR's I'd rather drink for less money. The mouthfeel on this is a little light for the rest of the body of this wine. But solidly made. 86-87 (4384 views)
Tasted by RDaneel on 11/23/2008 & rated 80 points: Smells like baby poop, with a flavor that, thankfully, doesn't quite match the nose. Still, it's a funky flavor with too much wood trying to cover up the vegetal and astringent notes. Poured 90% of the bottle down the sink. (2399 views)
Tasted by Baylorwine on 8/31/2008 & rated 89 points: Juicy and delicious. Not complex, but great QPR (2340 views)
Tasted by eldiabloazul on 5/30/2008 & rated 89 points: Solid... (2576 views)
Tasted by Nesto on 4/2/2008 & rated 89 points: Nice. Don't think this is a 90 pt wine though. (2879 views)
Tasted by BigTarheel on 3/30/2008 & rated 86 points: Good, simple berry and leathery spice. Med-weight, dry and a nice quaffer. Lacks power or complexity but should be a decent workhorse red for many people, (2769 views)
Tasted by patriciat on 3/22/2008 & rated 90 points: Lovely wine---I was pleased, I think that it's worth the $13 that I paid. Lots of fruit on the palate, nice body, good acidity, but not too much for sipping--a solid value wine. (2919 views)
Tasted by Kellious on 3/16/2008 & rated 84 points: Drinkable, everyday wine. Some fruit, a little tar, some oak, vanilla, and pepper. Won't buy again but if served would drink again and enjoy. (2945 views)
Tasted by mike l. on 3/16/2008 & rated 90 points: nice grenache heavy wine (3155 views)
Tasted by karpos on 3/12/2008 & rated 87 points: Decent non-descript blend. Enjoyed it, but wouldn't go out of my way to find it again. (2904 views)
Tasted by napaJ6 on 2/22/2008 & rated 88 points: Nice table wine...but far from being great. (3598 views)
Tasted by joncohen on 2/8/2008 & rated 90 points: Garnet color going to pink, medium weight in the glass. Aromas of ripe plum, cherries. On the palate there is lots of bright red fruit immediately, esp cherries and cola, followed by some earth and licorice. Nicely integrated, medium mouthfeel. Overall a really well put together wine. Buy more if you can find it! (2915 views)
Tasted by norcal-dmb on 1/14/2008 & rated 90 points: Good nose, little on the mild side. (3228 views)
Tasted by Armando B on 1/5/2008 & rated 91 points: Excellent. Although more Cali-style Rhone ranger forward fruit style, that characteristic is nicely balanced by the interplay of red furit Grenache, the earthy/smoky Mourvedre, and the gamey/peppery Syrah. Great QPR. Not sure how it will develop with intermediate cellaring, but don't see how it could improve much over where it is now. (2860 views)
Tasted by asoleno on 12/26/2007 & rated 83 points: Easy drinking, fun blend. People pleasing and easy on the palate for unsophisticated drinkers. Drink now. (2828 views)
Tasted by napaJ6 on 12/1/2007 & rated 89 points: Great table wine. For the price, Beckmen continues to impress. (3132 views)
Tasted by DBell65 on 11/15/2007 & rated 89 points: Had this over a 2-3 day period - the nose was good from the start and the wine smoothed out over the time open - very nice QPR. (2777 views)
Tasted by wineislife on 11/8/2007 & rated 89 points: Nice spicy, dark fruit bouquet. Rhone (not Cali) style, complex with nice vegetal component- best with food. Big wine, nice QPR. (2367 views)
Tasted by ebrumby on 11/4/2007 & rated 89 points: Wine went very very well with braised lamb shanks. I had to look twice to make sure it was from California--the wine definitely has Rhone down pat. I didn't think it was as "big" as some have said--quite smooth and flavorful, but it definitely held up to a very strong dish. (2658 views)
Tasted by darrel_f on 10/21/2007 & rated 89 points: Good solid rhone blend, new world style, nice cherry and spice flavors, nice finish. Solid food wine, went well with ravioli. Wine reccomended by Santi Restaurant in Geyserville, CA, nice place, great food. (2659 views)

From Beckmen:
A bit bigger and darker than its predecessor, the 2019 Cuvee le Bec expresses its Syrah side with mouth watering aromas of blue fruits, dark fruits, pepper, licorice, and spice. On the palate, there is great energy and balance with wonderful notes of blackberry, blueberry, anise, and pepper that linger on the very long finish. Crafted from 51% Syrah, 38% Grenache, 6% Mourvedre, and 5% Counoise.

2005 Beckmen Vineyards Cuvée Le Bec

Red Rhone Blend

Read about the different grapes used to produce red and white Rhone wines
On CellarTracker, Red Rhone Blend is the term for a wine consisting of two or more of the traditional 13 Southern Rhone grape varieties. Typically it's the Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre or Cinsault grapes, but can also contain the Muscardin, Counoise, Clairette, Bourboulenc, Picpoul, Roussanne, Terret Noir, Picardan or Vaccarese grapes.

A 'food' wine. Lacking pretension and intended for local consumption with local cuisine. Lacks the 'high' notes on a Bordeaux, more earthy and sharper so often a better partner to meat dishes with a sauce.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

California

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson

Central Coast AVA Wikipedia

Santa Ynez Valley

The Santa Ynez Valley AVA is the largest wine sub-region of Santa Barbara County and has the highest concentration of vineyards. The valley runs from east to west, between the Purisima Hills and the San Rafael Mountains in the north, and the Santa Ynez Mountains in the south. Although the valley is open to the Pacific Ocean in the west, the fact that it is relatively narrow means that limited cool air and fog is funnelled in. Low average rainfall and a very long growing season make the region ideal for quality wine production.

The diverse climates of Santa Ynez Valley mean that a wide array of wines is produced. The cool, western part of the AVA is predominantly planted with Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, accompanied by other aromatic white varieties. Botrytis cinerea (noble rot) is able to flourish here, allowing some outstanding dessert wines to be produced in suitable vintages. Further east, the cooling effect of the ocean is lessened as both vineyard elevation and average temperatures increase. This warmer part of Santa Ynez Valley is more suited to fuller-bodied grape varieties, such as Syrah and Merlot.
more ...s expected, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir thrive, while the more inland zones lay claim to Bordeaux varietals and some Rhone blends.
