Tasted by MichielV on 10/27/2021 & rated 91 points: W scallop dish which was superb. Great combo but indeed was drink up 2 years ago. It had lost some luster. (1206 views)
Tasted by beej on 12/2/2020: Last two notes r spot on. Nothin’ more to say. Enjoying tonite. (1460 views)
Tasted by M DU VIN on 10/6/2020 & rated 93 points: Still a wonderful bottle of wine at 15 years of age. (1508 views)
Tasted by affordableCollector on 5/8/2020 & rated 93 points: golden, in color. initial butttered popcorn. yellow peach, yellow apple, mandarin orange, mango, candied lemon, vanilla, spice. amazing wine at 15 years. (1514 views)
Tasted by OG-Wino on 3/29/2020 & rated 90 points: Opened last two bottles. First bottle was OTH -- too oxidized to drink.
Second bottle was definitely well past prime and leaning heavily to butterscotch, but was still drinkable. DEFINITELY time to finish these off. I'm looking at you, all 584 remaining bottles in cellars... (1729 views)
Tasted by Acohen on 2/10/2020 & rated 92 points: Butterscotch with lots of pear and apple (1060 views)
Tasted by Wayne Hansen on 2/5/2020 & rated 92 points: Excellent cork; a bit of sediment in a little pile on the edge of the bottle; color is a medium gold which is ever so slightly cloudy.

Excellent, deep, rich aroma featuring some barrel room notes, lemon custard, crushed rocks, some hints of tropical fruits including guava, nice floral element, too! Smoky flint and high toned citrus notes emerging after some time in glass which adds to the complexity; Aroma = 93.

Very big in the mouth with just a hint of that “over-the-hill” abruptness of old Chardonnay but also full of citrus and tropical fruit richness; there is a hint of bitterness on the finish whose floral and fruit notes last quite a long time; nicely balanced fruit and acids on entry with a mouth impression of richness and viscosity; let’s see if food eliminates that bitterness in the finish which expresses itself as more of a citrus pith rather than overt bitterness. In fact, over time the bitterness seems to go away. (Possibly the result of palate fatigue) There is definite astringency coating the mouth after swallowing or spitting. There is no real sense of alcohol heat, but this is, I’ll bet, fairly high in alcohol. Can certainly feel a sort of “prickliness” in my mouth. This is definitely a big-styled CA Chardonnay built for the medium haul … I should have opened these mid 2000’s up about 5 or more years ago, but they are still doing OK now! They certainly have intellectual value. Flavor = 91 to 93. (468 views)
Tasted by MichielV on 11/24/2019 & rated 92 points: Had another bottle in Rhinebeck. Dinner w Stacey, Karl, Tori and Doug. Great fish dish. This was a fantastic combo and teh wine really spoke to us. Yummy, at the top now. Drink up. (846 views)
Tasted by MichielV on 10/28/2019 & rated 92 points: W panseared branzino. Nearly 25 yrs married. This was perfectly fresh with great body balance and length. The 04 Mon Plaisir was overthe hill. This was great! But its time todrink this decade of PM. (846 views)
Tasted by bsweetnam on 1/13/2018 & rated 89 points: Might be past it's prime (1615 views)

Peter Michael

Producer website

The Peter Michael Winery is the California outpost of British-born Sir Peter Michael who has shown a Midas touch for selecting brilliant winemakers, including Helen Turley, Mark Aubert, Luc Morlet and more recently Luc’s brother, Nicolas. The consistency of these offerings from the cool climate hillside vineyards in Knight’s Valley and the Sonoma Coast has been respected and cherished by each of these winemakers... All things considered, Peter Michael is one of the reference point wineries in California.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
