Tasted by martinlopez on 2/19/2024 & rated 90 points: Vino muy expresivo en aroma.
(131 views)

Tasted by Rune Schwartz on 4/29/2022 & rated 89 points: Full to medium bodied and feminin Ribero. Partly due to the 6 years of age. Nose is quite light with some cherries and spices. Palate with tempetanillo sweet notes, some tobacco and hints of oak, fresh acid with tannins getting low but still some strugling strengt. Medium lenght. Not much complexit therefore not difficult to balance well :-) (1068 views)
Tasted by MicklethePickle on 3/4/2022 & rated 88 points: Unfortunately for this wine, it follows three stellar wines tasted over the past couple of days (2 Bordeaux and 1 Italian); this just doesn't measure up, even taking into account the price difference. Good dark cranberry color. Nose with some red fruit but a bit stemmy. Kind of high-toned in the mouth, acid keeps the fruit a bit too much in check, at least at this young age. Might be better down the road but for now just a bit too woodsy and austere for my taste. 5-12-14-7: 88/100. (1345 views)
Tasted by DNABog on 12/21/2021 & rated 85 points: Very few hints of Tempranillo in this bottle. It tasted more like a red blend from Washington. How could they do that to our favorite grape? (1445 views)
Tasted by astifors on 6/24/2021 & rated 90 points: Fruit, lovely smell, medium plus body, a nice dryness. Ready to drink. (1795 views)

Tasted by MicklethePickle on 12/19/2020 & rated 90 points: Pretty good for the money. Opaque dark, dark red. Nose is shy but still reveals nice red fruits. Mouth is similar, though with black fruits more in abundance. Fairly strong, rich and tannic, this should age nicely. Still, approachable today. 5-12-15-8: 90/100. (1598 views)
Tasted by mac-eye on 10/11/2020 & rated 89 points: Too young now, better to wait a few years. Good fruit but some youthful harshness. Improves somewhat a couple of hours after decanting. Goes reasonably well with appropriate food. Drink starting 2021 or 2022. (1471 views)
Tasted by GofastTommy on 5/22/2020 & rated 88 points: Medel+ tät, rödlila.

Stor fruktig doft av mörka bär, örter och med rostade toner.

Fyllig smak av mörka bär. Tydliga men fina tanniner. Hög syra. Balanserat. Medel+ långt fruktigt och varmt slut.

Mycket gott och prisvärt. (1663 views)
Tasted by Ital_1970 on 3/21/2020 & rated 89 points: Lots of fruit and freshness.
Peaks now or in the next 1-2 years, but will last at least 3-5 years. (1470 views)

(2119 views)

Tasted by tudval on 5/9/2019 & rated 87 points: This shows a lot of promise for those that have patience and cellar space. I am tempted to buy a few and hold for 3-5 years. At the moment it's just too tannic for me. (1989 views)
Tasted by petroj123 on 4/20/2019 & rated 90 points: There is written evidence that the first vines were planted on the Villacreces Estate in the 13th Century. During the 14th Century, the vineyard was run by Saint Pedro de Villacreces and later on, became a monastery. In 2003 the Anton family, owners of Rioja Bodega Izadi and one of Spain’s most famous Michelin starred restaurants in the Basque country, purchased the estate and invested in revitalizing both the estate and the vineyards.
The wine looks purple colored. The legs are medium. It smells like blackberry, blueberry and black pepper. The body is light/medium. The wine has smooth texture. The wine finishes short. The wine has low acidity.

Tasted by EatsWritesShoots on 3/13/2019 & rated 85 points: Contrary to some other reviews I found the wine to be very unremarkable with absent tanins and lack of grippiness on the palate. Pleasant but I drank as more a weak bodies wine even though it isn’t. For those that like a lighter tasting red from Spain and find others too big and bold by contrast, this might be for you.  Tasted by failed wine merchant on 9/23/2018 & rated 90 points: Pruno 2016 Ribera del Duero
Quintanilla de Onésimo
9€ - 10€ retail
This village on the banks of the river Duero makes and bottles some of the best value red wine in Spain. Very good quality supermarket own-brands of Ribera del Duero bottled in Quintanilla de Onésimo can be found for 3 to 5 euros a bottle. This 2016 estate-bottled offering from a recently established private bodega is very impressive; aged for 12 months in French oak, light to medium bodied, gently tannic, juicy berry fruit integrated with clean wood, medium length finish. Lacks some complexity and character but very enjoyable. (1782 views)
Tasted by cono_sur on 8/10/2018 & rated 89 points: Approximately 90% Tempranillo and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. Black plum and cedar oak aromas from the cork. In the glass, this has a medium+ intensity nose with smoky black licorice, black cherry, oak spice, and cassis with hints of earth and black plum aromas. It's medium-bodied on the palate with grippy, muscular tannins and fresh acids lifting the black cherry, blackberry, currant, and oak flavours. Drying mid-palate. Long finish with earthy and smoky elements, and just a touch of chocolate bitterness. Solid wine that needs 3+ years of cellar time. (1510 views)

Tempranillo Blend

Tempranillo is the backbone of wines made ihvhhcn the best well-known Spanish regions Rioja and Ribera del Duero, but is also grown as far afield as Mexico and Australia.

As a flavor profile, red fruits like strawberries and cherries can predominate - but with a rustic edge. The Many wines made from Tempranillo will spend a few years in barrel and bottle before reaching the consumers . Many Tempranillo-based wines see a few years of oak - add that to a few years of bottle and the wine can give a subtle - and occasionaly not-so-subtle - leathery mouthfeel. The combination of the tart fruit and tannins make this wine very food friendly.

Spain

Vinos de España - Wines of Spain (Instituto Español de Comercio Exterior) | Wikipedia
Wine Map on weinlagen-info

Spain is the third largest wine producing nation in the world, occupying the majority of the Iberian Peninsula with vast diversity in climate, culture, and of course, wine. From inky, dark reds of the [Priorat] to dry, white Finos from Andalusia, Spain can easily boast of elaborating a wide variety of notable styles. Within Spain there are currently 62 demarcated wine regions, of which a handful have gained international recognition: [Rioja], Priorat and [Ribera del Duero]. Yet these regions are only a small sample of the high quality wines Spain produces. Regions such as Cava, Penedes, Somontano, Galicia, Rueda and Jerez are only a few of the numerous regions worthy of exploration throughout Spain. Spain can also lay claim to having the most land under vine in the world, growing up to, by some accounts, 600 indigenous varietals of which Tempranillo is their most well known. Other popular varietals include [Garnacha], Bobal and Monastrell for reds and for whites; the infamous [sic] Palomino Fino grape which is used in the production of sherry wine, Pedro Ximenez in Montilla Morilles, Albarino used in the creation of the bright, effervescent wines of Galicia, and Verdejo in Rueda. - Source: - Catavino.net

Spain is not in the forefront of winemaking for its dessert wines, other than for its sweet wines from Sherry country including the highly revered Olorosos (when sweetened). But apart from Sherry Spain has a range of styles of dessert wines, ranging from the those made from the Pedro Ximenez grape primarily in Jerez and Montilla-Moriles) to luscious, red dessert wines made in the Mediterranean from the Garnacha (Grenache) grape. Some good Moscatels are made in Mallorca, Alicante and Navarre. The northwest corner of Spain, Galicia, with its bitter Atlantic climate, is even making dessert wines, called “Tostadillos” in the village of Ribadivia (similar to France’s “Vin de Paille”). The Canary Islands have made interesting dessert wines for centuries (they are mentioned by Shakespeare, for example) and in recent years the quality of winemaking has been improved and the Canary Islands wines are being better marketed now. The winemaking styles for “Vinos Dulces” are also diverse, from “Late Harvest” (Vendimia Tardía) to “Fortified Wines” (Fermentación Parcial). Based on in-spain.info.
