Tasted by silbakor on 3/31/2024 & rated 89 points: Sweet oak is over prominent now. Fruit and acid are still excellent but no longer in balance (208 views)
Tasted by wcf1946 on 2/2/2024 & rated 93 points: I posted comments recently for the 2014 vintage, which you can read. The 2013 mirrors my description almost to the letter. It is another outstanding offering from L'Aventure like all their wines. The 2014 is a little more approachable and offers a slightly more enjoyable drinking experience. The '13 is spicier w/stronger tannins and has not reached it's pinnacle yet. I believe in several years it will command a 96 score from me like the '14. (382 views)
Tasted by prism on 11/12/2023 & rated 93 points: Brought to a dinner, popped and poured. Could easily pass for a mature top-notch C9P from a ripe year. Smooth and delicious; no one varietal stands out; no noticeable heat, either. Probably at peak; will likely plateau for a year or two. (385 views)
 Tasted by bluepeter2020@outlook.com on 10/3/2023 & rated 93 points: amazing! (505 views)
Tasted by melvinyeowq on 4/8/2023 & rated 86 points: Bring an interesting wine theme: Guessed 2015 Napa Cab. Heavily extracted with monolithic, syrupy dark red fruit. An artificial concentration to the wine, with the texture being smoothed to oblivion. Quite a contrast to the Domaine des Tours as a Grenache blend. (1210 views)
Tasted by CheviotCellar on 3/10/2023 & rated 92 points: Past prime for me, a little thin and separated. The high abv isn't helping here. Nose is welcoming with oak, mint, cherries, candied rose petal, hibiscus syrup. The palate is interesting with the smokey mourvedre and elegant floral and berry flavors. They’re muddled by the high abv and acid though.

Dont get me wrong this is going to smoke a lot of wines head to head because of the quality winemaking and finer flavors. If the alcohol was 13-14% and this was richer, silkier texture, the wine would be tremendous. (739 views)
Tasted by silbakor on 1/31/2023 & rated 91 points: Still noticeable tannin! Nice balance. Dark, earthy, tea. Angela wished there was more fruit and acid relative to the tannins (768 views)
Tasted by Nova5400 on 9/14/2022 & rated 96 points: Really remarkable GSM with a healthy percentage of Mouvedre. It should really be called an MGS, it seems. Even though this wine has over 15% alcohol , the alcohol is really well balanced integrated and not “hot” like some wines with higher alcohol levels can be. Very silky tannins and great structure. Cherry and blueberry notes predominate. One of my favorite wines, ever! I have seen this wine rated as high as 100 points! (855 views)
Tasted by danielbleier on 2/19/2022 & rated 93 points: 5 hour decant helped the expression of this one. Blueberry and cherry blend with vanilla and herb flavors. Drink over the next 5 years. (1045 views)
Tasted by colima on 12/12/2021 & rated 93 points: Really good. I subscribe to L'Aventure, but not long enough to have many older bottles. This was my last but one.
One hour air. Smooth well balanced without the roughness Paso GSMs can have. (1044 views)
Tasted by KJD45$ on 10/10/2021 & rated 95 points: Phenomenal wine…perfect drinking window. (1262 views)
Tasted by sesalmon on 2/19/2021 & rated 95 points: Simply beautiful wine. Glad I waited to open this bottle, as the balance of tannins, acidity, fruit and alcohol integrated flawlessly. It was our first restaurant family outing since just before the election, which likely pushed my rating up a notch. Just wish I had a couple more bottles in my cellar! (1794 views)
Tasted by Jaws4096 on 2/16/2021 & rated 95 points: Substantially better balanced than a tasting two years ago. Drinking very nicely. Dark fruit, noticeable minerality, and of course plenty of warmth at 15.8%. This continues to be a bargain priced and underrated winery. I am eyeing my four bottles of “for her“ 2014 with increasing anticipation. (1634 views)
Tasted by streethawk on 9/18/2020 & rated 95 points: This is a great GSM blend from California, with gorgeous floral notes on the nose, and cedar and red fruits too. Seamless integration of tannin, acidity, fruit and alcohol on the palate. Great finish has a line of minerality to bring it all home. Surprisingly no heat on the back palate despite the 16%ABV. I am very impressed! Drinking great right now. (1468 views)
Tasted by mattdathan on 9/18/2020 & rated 95 points: Simply delightful! (1597 views)
Tasted by DrBad on 12/12/2019 & rated 94 points: Another excellent L'Aventure wine. Aired in the bottle for about 30 minutes and drank over several hours. Strong floral aromas of violet, blue fruits and toasted cedar. Full bodied with thick raspberry, plum, bitter dark cherry, cast iron and black pepper. (2197 views)
Tasted by RockyII on 12/8/2019 & rated 91 points: 1 hour decant. GSM blend. Deep semi translucent cranberry red. Drinking from my new Gabriel Glas handblown glass which is light as a feather. Nose of smoke, charcoal, tea and blackberry and raspberry. Taste is similar but very acidic and tannic. Smoke, ash and charcoal are the dominant flavors. Tart. Medium bodied and fills a bit thin. Probably needs a longer decant. About 91-92. I liked the 14 vintage better. (1486 views)
Tasted by Marc S on 7/28/2019 & rated 94 points: - Brick color with fast forming legs. It's in total harmony and has flavours of blackberry, raspberry and strawberry with a medium/full body. Smooth texture with a long finish - The nose is incredible. (1852 views)
Tasted by jeagle on 10/29/2017: Decanted then returned to the bottle to slow ox for 10 hours. I should have consulted the recent reviews. This wine is in an awkward phase and continues to display an excessive presence of oak. Wait. (3788 views)
Tasted by danielbleier on 9/28/2017 & rated 90 points: Feels this was young or needed a serious decant as it came across as unsettled. However, the elements of red fruit, tobacco, smoke and minerality are all there...this should came together in a few years. (3098 views)
Tasted by csimm on 8/25/2017 & rated 91 points: Hot and disjointed...like Kate Beckinsale with a peg leg.

Hold until after 2020 and hope for the best. (4100 views)
Tasted by Rollerball on 6/29/2017 & rated 91 points: Incredible and delicious but way out of balance. (3047 views)
Tasted by Marc S on 4/12/2017 & rated 91 points: - Garnet color with medium forming legs. It's balanced and has flavours of blackberry, black currant and raspberry with a full body. Smooth texture with a medium finish - Fabulous nose and great dark red fruit. (3161 views)
Tasted by MAXIMUM SATISFACTION on 8/5/2016 & rated 93 points: A little hot and disjointed. Typical paso style with big sticky red/blackfruit, blueberry extract, vanilla... Does have a really nice streak of minerality running through it. Needs years to even out as its not overly accessible. (2878 views)
Tasted by nevmeijers on 4/29/2016 & rated 93 points: Wonderful nose. Even better taste. Bramble bush and blackberry. Velvety smooth - unbelievable finish. Aged tobacco and plum and a hint of vanilla on the tongue (2700 views)

Red Rhone Blend

Read about the different grapes used to produce red and white Rhone wines
On CellarTracker, Red Rhone Blend is the term for a wine consisting of two or more of the traditional 13 Southern Rhone grape varieties. Typically it's the Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre or Cinsault grapes, but can also contain the Muscardin, Counoise, Clairette, Bourboulenc, Picpoul, Roussanne, Terret Noir, Picardan or Vaccarese grapes.

A 'food' wine. Lacking pretension and intended for local consumption with local cuisine. Lacks the 'high' notes on a Bordeaux, more earthy and sharper so often a better partner to meat dishes with a sauce.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
