Tasted by Jgallup on 5/11/2022 & rated 91 points: Very impressed with the balance and resilience of this wine. It did not hold up for long - only a couple hours, but really good just a few minutes after pulling the cork. (1135 views)
Tasted by Agross on 12/15/2019 & rated 89 points: Full body very dry (1199 views)
Tasted by MSheridan on 12/25/2018 & rated 90 points: A very enjoyable drink.
Unplanned wine for Xmas day that really drank well. Lovely freshness of fruit with good acidity. Complemented Christmas dinner pretty well as it wasn’t too heavy. Nice to have seen this evolve so well and still has life for a good few years yet. (2156 views)
Tasted by depdoc on 7/26/2017: Two bottles today that had rather flat taste and minimal aroma. Are they both early corked? (3561 views)
Tasted by bajayngo on 12/14/2016: After having 3 Rioja's it was cool to move to Ribera del Duero. More olive notes and muddy earth, red fruits, cured wood and a good dose of tea. Not quite the acids of the Rioja's but very balanced. (4215 views)
Tasted by MSheridan on 9/13/2016 & rated 89 points: Nice depth of flavour, lots of ripe fruit, quite powerful on the palate but finish seemed a little short and thin unfortunately, otherwise would have scored better (3887 views)
Tasted by LopedeAguirre on 8/20/2016 & rated 90 points: One of my favorites, always delivers. Strong nose with vanilla, good concentration, excellent balance and long finish. (4002 views)
(3235 views)
Tasted by MSheridan on 2/25/2016 & rated 90 points: Very nice. Fruit is bold and deep with a creamy vanilla background
Drinking really well now, I like this stage of development but think it be good for medium term cellaring (2567 views)
Tasted by ManuKey on 1/16/2016 & rated 89 points: La robe est violacé intense. (2148 views)
Tasted by depdoc on 11/13/2015 & rated 91 points: Typical Ribera. Good fruit and mild tannins. Little sediment. This is my fifth bottle from a case and have been consistent. No sign of aging. (2337 views)
Tasted by jayrod on 10/24/2015 & rated 84 points: This wine is not aging well in my opinion. Opened to a bis of raisin and alcohol and had little fruit on the pallet. It got better with food but still I was a tad disappointed. (2327 views)
Tasted by GGP on 8/4/2015 & rated 89 points: "Vermelho-rubi escuro e profundo, reflexos violáceos. Boa fruta vermelha fresca e madura, toques cozindos. Muita suculência e sedosidade em uma boca ampla e longeva. Com cochinillo de segovia. 89 GGP" (1678 views)
Tasted by Nimo on 7/12/2015 & rated 84 points: Fruit dense un peu timide, se libère après une heure, finale un peu boisée. (2555 views)
Tasted by Carsten Madsen on 4/13/2015 & rated 91 points: Nice dark fruit with some oak (2420 views)
Tasted by KVM on 2/22/2015: Very dark. The oak is very prominent in the nose, but also dark fruit and mint. the bouquet is reprised on the palate, quite a firm, dry finish. (1834 views)
Tasted by jeffreylubowski on 1/25/2015 & rated 89 points: Very classic ribera crianza. Some heat. Still some noticeable tannins. But acid is there. 100% tempranillo. Could pick that out blind easy. Oak is prominent but not in a bad way. Dark fruit. Slightly plummy. Lots of sediment for a 5 year wine. Good especially for the price. Would buy again. (3151 views)
Tasted by LopedeAguirre on 1/2/2015 & rated 90 points: Old World classicism, balance of fruit and tannins with solid structure and hints of vanilla and cedar. A great, well-made wine. Bravo. (2474 views)
Tasted by cristian_m on 12/18/2014 & rated 88 points: Very nice core of fruit. Earthiness and tannins in spades. Good length and a full mouthfeel for a tempranillo. A little inaccessible due to the tannins and bulky oak but would settle down nicely if consumed with food. (1913 views)
Tasted by Stwstw on 12/13/2014 & rated 85 points: Skal ligge til min. 2016 (1961 views)
Tasted by Tpairing on 10/12/2014 & rated 89 points: Fruit with plums and dark berries. Full body - well stractureed. (2761 views)
Tasted by depdoc on 9/1/2014 & rated 93 points: lovely aroma, lots of dark fruit with mild tannins (2643 views)
Tasted by rbrater on 8/25/2014 & rated 89 points: Smoky, earthy and well-balanced fruit. A thoroughly enjoyable wine. (1914 views)
Tasted by casaallora on 8/4/2014 & rated 90 points: This wine could age another 4-5 years. Decant 4 hours prior. Great legs, full body on nose & palette. Oak backbone, dark red fruit, borders on a chocolate profile. Enjoyed immensely. Very full bodied wine. Does not disappoint (2504 views)
Tasted by pmgsmith on 7/23/2014 & rated 91 points: I'd go for the higher rating with this vintage: text book Condado de Haza. Surprisingly fresh and fruit forward. Tannins tempered, smooth but with an earthy/vegetal character of the Fernandez stable. Towards the end gunk city but from Fernandez that's what we want. Ace. (2303 views)

Tempranillo

Varietal character (Appellation America) | TAPAS: Tempranillo Advocates, Producers and Amigos Society

Tempranillo is the premium red wine grape variety from the Rioja and Ribera del Duero region in Spain. Tempranillo's aromas and flavors often combine elements of berryish fruit, herbaceousness, and an earthy-leathery minerality. Being low in acidity and sugar content, it is commonly blended with Carignan (Mazuela), Grenache (Garnacha), Graciano, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.

WineAccess
The varietal is at its best in top Riojas, where oak aging is employed to generate increased complexity and harmony. From the best sites, these wines can be remarkably concentrated with great aging potential. New wines from this region are darker, and more robust, with more dynamic primary fruit flavors than traditionally styled examples. These wines seem to reflect the influence of Spain's other key region for Tempranillo, Ribera del Duero. Regardless of style, Riojas tend to be medium bodied wines, with more acid than tannins. These wines generally feature Tempranillo blended with Garancha, Mazuelo, and Graciano. For these wines, there are three quality levels, which will appear on the label. Everyday drinking wines fall under the category of "Crianza", "Reserva" denotes more complex and concentrated wines, and "Gran Reserva" refers to the most intense wines, made only in the best years.

The same labeling scheme applies to wines from Ribera del Duero, which, like Rioja, is dominated by Tempranillo and shares similar blending grapes. Again, Ribera del Duero wines are generally darker and more powerful than the most traditional Riojas. These wines also generally see less oak treatment than Riojas. From Rioja, we like wines from Allende, Marqués de Cáceres, Montecillo, and Cune. In Ribera del Duero, consider Dominio de Pingus, Emilio Moro, Convento San Francisco, and Pesquera.
Pair older-style Rioja with simple meats like chicken, leg of lamb, and pork loin. However, the newer style of Rioja and Ribera del Duero works especially well with bolder meat dishes or an aged Spanish cheese like Manchego or Idiazabal.

Spain

Vinos de España - Wines of Spain (Instituto Español de Comercio Exterior) | Wikipedia
Wine Map on weinlagen-info

Spain is the third largest wine producing nation in the world, occupying the majority of the Iberian Peninsula with vast diversity in climate, culture, and of course, wine. From inky, dark reds of the [Priorat] to dry, white Finos from Andalusia, Spain can easily boast of elaborating a wide variety of notable styles. Within Spain there are currently 62 demarcated wine regions, of which a handful have gained international recognition: [Rioja], Priorat and [Ribera del Duero]. Yet these regions are only a small sample of the high quality wines Spain produces. Regions such as Cava, Penedes, Somontano, Galicia, Rueda and Jerez are only a few of the numerous regions worthy of exploration throughout Spain. Spain can also lay claim to having the most land under vine in the world, growing up to, by some accounts, 600 indigenous varietals of which Tempranillo is their most well known. Other popular varietals include [Garnacha], Bobal and Monastrell for reds and for whites; the infamous [sic] Palomino Fino grape which is used in the production of sherry wine, Pedro Ximenez in Montilla Morilles, Albarino used in the creation of the bright, effervescent wines of Galicia, and Verdejo in Rueda. - Source: - Catavino.net

Spain is not in the forefront of winemaking for its dessert wines, other than for its sweet wines from Sherry country including the highly revered Olorosos (when sweetened). But apart from Sherry Spain has a range of styles of dessert wines, ranging from the those made from the Pedro Ximenez grape primarily in Jerez and Montilla-Moriles) to luscious, red dessert wines made in the Mediterranean from the Garnacha (Grenache) grape. Some good Moscatels are made in Mallorca, Alicante and Navarre. The northwest corner of Spain, Galicia, with its bitter Atlantic climate, is even making dessert wines, called “Tostadillos” in the village of Ribadivia (similar to France’s “Vin de Paille”). The Canary Islands have made interesting dessert wines for centuries (they are mentioned by Shakespeare, for example) and in recent years the quality of winemaking has been improved and the Canary Islands wines are being better marketed now. The winemaking styles for “Vinos Dulces” are also diverse, from “Late Harvest” (Vendimia Tardía) to “Fortified Wines” (Fermentación Parcial). Based on in-spain.info.
