Rich nose with aromas of sweet cassis, currant marmalade, some milk chocolate oak and a hint of figs. Very rich, soft and supple in the mouth with sweet fruit flavors of ripe cassis, spicy oak, prunes, some licorice and a little vanilla. A little bit too ripe and sweet for my tastes, but overall the wine is surprisingly complex and elegant despite being quite big-sized and ponderous, even a bit monolithic and thus too heavy. Has some nice tannic bite, but lacks in the acidity. The warm, spicy and savory finish is less sweet than the midpalate, with flavors of spicy oak, dark sunny fruit and a hint of tannic bitterness and astringency.
Surprisingly complex and nuanced Cali-Bdx, but because of the lack of acidity the wine comes across a bit too clumsy and ponderous. The tannins give the wine some structure, but it still lacks the needed bite and freshness from balanced acidity. This is definitely good for a ~20€ new world Bdx-blend, but doesn't really give a proper match for a European one. OK purchase at 19,99€. Full bodied, almost no tannins and a bit of acidity, but defenetly not enough to give good struckture and to support those huge flavours of chuklet, ripe dark berries, capsicum and some oak. (7775 views) | | Tasted by avp on 11/15/2011: Sweet nose of dark berry and plummy fruit with some liquorice, chocolate, mint and a hint of glue. Fullbodied palate with decent acidity and some tannic grip, but overwhelmed by the sweet jammy fruit. Chocolate and some minor notes of mushrooms, herbs and bell pepper. Quite some heat in the aftertaste. There's just no edge in this wine.
