Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 90 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 2187 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Terroir59 on 4/21/2024 & rated 93 points: From magnum; 2012 base year. Well balanced bubbly with citrus, apple and some toasty notes. Perhaps just a bit too much sweetness, but so much to like in this wine including a great QPR. Sadly, my only magnum; in this format still great freshness and should be going strong for many more years. (791 views)
Tasted by Steve Simmons on 4/15/2024 & rated 92 points: Agree with the sweet attack upfront, but then balances out. Good aromatocs and super easy drinker. Would buy again if found on sale. Not sure how to find disgorgement date but I have had them stored for a few years or so. Just ordered some Collection 244s to compare. (1474 views)
Tasted by Miceri on 4/5/2024 & rated 94 points: Really nice and fresh with a good body (purchased 4.5 years ago, som some age for a NV), very light coloured towards white, a sweet rich attack balanced really well with acidity, long tasty aftertaste (1269 views)
Tasted by EM_MB on 3/22/2024 & rated 89 points: Every time I drink this aim left wishing it just had a bit more. More structure, more body, etc. it’s like it’s so close to being really good but always falls a bit short. (1683 views)
Tasted by melvinyeowq on 3/15/2024 & rated 93 points: Mainly Vosne and Chambolle GCs: Brought as an aperitif. Guesses ranged from early ‘90s to 2013, prominent dosage but not overbearing. A pleasurable, fuss-free pairing with food that once again showed that these old NVs are indestructible and so enjoyable at the right spot of maturity. (1765 views)
Tasted by hargy on 2/18/2024 & rated 92 points: the last of a case bought in November 2019, these really showed the benefit of some ageing for NV champagnes - sensational and would put many vintage champagnes to shame (2435 views)
Tasted by 로엔 on 1/25/2024 & rated 80 points: 노란 빛.
(3095 views)
Tasted by BrandonC on 1/24/2024 & rated 90 points: Yellow/light orange in color, bready and tasty with a darker more complex flavour. (2828 views)
Tasted by aquacongas on 1/7/2024 & rated 90 points: not blind
balanced big house champagne. 90 (3075 views)
Tasted by Sam3 on 12/31/2023 & rated 92 points: Very enjoyable to celebrate the New Year. Crisp with long finish. (2408 views)
Tasted by melvinyeowq on 12/27/2023 & rated 92 points: Good Pinots (including champagnes): Brought for a friend, label from the early '90s. Clearly an older champagne with nutty aromatics but still very youthful - in fact it became fresher with air. Superb balance after a couple of hours and another example of how indestructible old NVs are. With this amount of age, I think the difference to tête de cuvées is marginal. Was a couple of others’ favourite of the champagne flight, and a close second for me. (2568 views)
Tasted by NickA on 12/16/2023 & rated 92 points: Cellared since summer 2020, and definitely benefited from the time in bottle: class obvious despite being drunk from a paper cup at a party, good balance of toast, juicy fruit and mineral drive, very drinkable. Almost sad they've replaced this cuvee with the '24x' series! (2450 views)
Tasted by RED AND BLACK on 12/15/2023 & rated 90 points: 240th edition. 40% chard, 42% PN and 18% PM. Reserves from 2008 to 2014. Disg 2019, dosage 8g/l. Very much alive after 3 years of cellaring. Drink now or keep another 5 years easy (2310 views)
Tasted by Osselaer Cellar on 11/22/2023: Thanksgiving eve and aperol spritz (2618 views)
Tasted by sjfunkenhauser on 11/20/2023 & rated 91 points: Incredible intensity! I can smell the pastry notes from feet away! Palate is bursting with green apple, tree fruit and citrus. High acidity, but not overwhelming. Incredible finish.

Medium gold colour.

Pronounced intensity aromas of brioche, apple pie, lemon tart, fresh pear, green apple, fresh lemon, lemon zest, pink grapefruit, white blossoms, wet stone.

Pronounced palate.

Medium body, high acidity, delicate mousse, long finish. (2512 views)
Tasted by SimonG on 11/18/2023 & rated 90 points: Mag, 2015 base. Pale straw. Young and vibrant, some mid palate depth and richness but still elegant, floral and about line rather than development. Needs a couple of years in this format for my palate. ***1/2 (2393 views)
Tasted by sirpat00 on 10/28/2023 & rated 89 points: Nice autolytic notes, fresh pear and apple with a citric accent. Mineral notes of wet stone. Fresh acidity with good tension, but leading into a tiring finish. Confirms last couple of bottles and drinking window of 7-8 years tops if you want to catch this in its prime. (2625 views)
Tasted by sirpat00 on 10/28/2023 & rated 89 points: Maturing profile showing some age. Pear fruit, smoke as well as autolytic and nutty notes. Latter more prevalent on the palate. Still drinks nicely but judging from this badge it would appear 5-8 years drinking window if you want to catch this in its prime. (2506 views)
Tasted by Miccog on 10/28/2023 & rated 93 points: Lots of apples on toast, some pear and citrus following. Dry, sour and flavorful with fine, lively bubbles. A really good champagne, quite simply. (2392 views)
Tasted by sirpat00 on 10/27/2023 & rated 88 points: Fruit of pear, smoke and yeast. Crips palate, but lacks balance and starts to feel somewhat tired. Confirming my last bottle suggesting that max. 7-8 years is the aging potential here if you want to catch this at its peak. (2042 views)
Tasted by Purple Tooth on 10/9/2023 & rated 93 points: Italy pains me to see this blend being discontinued. This was always an aged champagne lovers NV, with lots of bruised red apples and beautiful yeasted nuts and zip. I loved drinking this from a Burgundy glass because the aroma is so attractively champagne. If you are holding on to a few of these relics as I am, I would not hold them too long. This one showed a bit of tilting...DRINK (3199 views)
Tasted by Sp@rk on 10/6/2023 & rated 90 points: Toasty goodness. Cellared for 2 years after purchase. (2689 views)
Tasted by MarkLA on 9/26/2023 & rated 93 points: Base 2013. Toasty. Strawberry, citrus oil, cashew. Medium/full bodied with salty citrus peel finish. Yummy! (2436 views)
Tasted by mflesh on 9/8/2023: Another cellar find, this time it was mine (the last one was served at Friday wine club). Guessing this one has been corked for about 15 years. Did have a noticeable pop and fizz with about 50% of the cork bled through. The wine was a golden color to the glass, VERY tiny bubbles. Sweet side even still. Hazelnut and honeyed amber. Definitely showing age and not in a bad way. Finishes with great microscopic bubbles and effervescence that is really still quite energetic. White chocolate and honeydew to the finish. Definitely on the back side of the hill. Super glad I chose to open this one tonight as it definitely isn't getting any better but really in a nice spot for those who enjoy these champers with a bit of age showing through to make it interesting. Woohoo! (3076 views)
Tasted by Purple Tooth on 8/28/2023 & rated 92 points: En Mag...A totally different vibe than the 750 and a different blend as I understand. These have been sleeping through cov phuck in my cellar and are now putting on more toasted nuts and complexity while retaining a bright nature, both in color and zip. Lots of acidity, lots of toast, lots of love here from a sub 100.00 big boy. Bring this on all day! Drink (3209 views)

(NV Louis Roederer Champagne Brut Premier) This is a great choice for those with Cristal taste, but without the fat wallet. The opulent house style carries through from top to bottom. Pale straw in color, this masculine wine entices the nose with rich vanilla, maple-syrup, caramel-apple, and ginger-ale notes. On the palate, it is full-bodied, with bold caramel and cream-soda notes, followed by sea spray and then crisp, delicious apple. The finish is clean and crisp. The Shifting Landscape of Champagne

N.V. Louis Roederer Champagne Brut Premier

« The freshness, finesse, and brightness of Brut Premier make it the perfect wine for festive occasions. Its structured texture, richness, and length are distinctly winey. It is a full, complex wine that is both rich and powerful,
whilst remaining a great classic. » — Jean-Baptiste Lécaillon, Cellar Master
Yesterday’s discoveries, today’s treasures

After the upheavals of the early 1900s, particularly the First World War that destroyed more than half of the Louis Roederer estate, Léon Olry Roederer reconstructed the vineyards. He decided to buy grapes to ensure the continuity of the House during this difficult period and, at the same time, created a multi-vintage wine that would have a consistent flavour, whatever the harvest year. It is now called Brut Premier.

A signature blend
A blend of 40% Pinot Noir, 40% Chardonnay, and 20% Pinot Meunier, Brut Premier comprises wine matured in oak tuns produced from three Champagne grape varieties that originate from more than fifty different crus. It is aged for 3 years in Louis Roederer’s cellars and left for 6 months after dégorgement (disgorging). A great classic that resonates with contemporary taste

Striking a perfect balance between youthfulness and maturity, seduction and character, vinosity and freshness, Brut Premier is a champagne that is harmonious and structured, elegant and lively, with a unique exuberancy. Its structured texture, richness, and length are distinctly winey. It is a full, complex wine that is both rich and powerful, whilst remaining a great classic.

Champagne Blend

"Champagne blend" is a classic grape blend that typically includes Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and/or Pinot Meunier in any proportions.

However, this blend can also include Arbane, Fromenteau (Pinot Gris), Petit Meslier and/or Pinot Blanc as well.

France - When it comes to wine, France stands alone. No other country can beat it in terms of consistent quality and diversity. And while many of its Region, Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne most obviously, produce wine as rare, as sought-after and nearly as expensive as gold, there are just as many obscurities and values to be had from little known appellations throughout the country. To learn everything there is to know about French wine would take a lifetime. To understand and appreciate French wine, one only has to begin tasting them. Sub-Region:

Champagne - The French region of Champagne (including the cities of Rheims, Épernay, and Aÿ) was the first region in the world to make sparkling wine in any quantity. Today, the name of the region is synonymous with the finest of all sparkling wines, and wine-making traditions of Champagne have become role models for sparkling wine producers, worldwide. Surprisingly, the region of Champagne is now responsible for only one bottle in 12 of all sparkling wine produced. Styles of champagne range in sweetness ranging from an extra brut or brut 0, to the basic brut to demi sec to doux; some houses produce single vintage champagnes and others produce non-vintage (or incorporate wines/grapes of multiple vintages), often to preserve a specific taste; combinations of grape varietals; and colors, including a rosé. There are several sub-appellations, including the Valley of the Marnes river running from Épernay west, Massif de Saint-Thierry north and west of Rheims, Valley of the Ardre, the Mountains of Rheims (between Rheims and Épernay), Côte des Blancs, Côte de Sézanne, and Côte des Bar in the South. Champagne wine only uses three grape varietals (cépages): Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier.
