Tasted by derrington on 9/11/2021 & rated 93 points: Decanted for 3 hours, classic Howell Mountain color and balance. 2008 was the last year Sojourn had a Howell Mountain wine. It is my favorite of all the Sojourn wines I have had. It was perfectly open with great structure and color; dark fruits and cedar with a the typical Howell Mountain hint of sweetness on the finish. I have one more. It won't get any better so will drink within the next 12 months. Paired very well with Denver Steaks grilled over cherry wood. (242 views)
Tasted by WineCPA on 10/16/2018 & rated 93 points: In its prime right now. Full bodied with black fruit. Integrated tannins with a fair amount of sediment. Great wine for the price. (673 views)
Tasted by TwoSmoochies on 5/21/2015 & rated 91 points: Decant for at least an hour! (1461 views)
Tasted by Let Them Drink Wine on 5/12/2015 & rated 90 points: Tasting more like a Paso Cab. Soft blackberry fruit with balanced acidity and soft, but lengthy finish. (1630 views)
Tasted by bigdomer on 11/14/2014 & rated 92 points: Excellent Expression of Howell mountain. Shocked at how integrated the tannins are at such a young age. Lots of blueberry. Reminds me of some of the best 04 vintage cabs from Napa. (1780 views)
Tasted by Griffeyfan04 on 11/1/2014 & rated 91 points: Typical howell mtn fruit profile that is so easy to pick out. Didn't change two much over a few hours but I think it can go for 5-10 years. Tannins are not very powerful but still there to provide grip (1455 views)
Tasted by DavidDay on 2/9/2013 & rated 91 points: Dark fruit and currants, full bodied, big tannins pretty well blalanced (2360 views)
Tasted by Annie1 on 1/10/2013 & rated 92 points: Delicious. First impression is coffee, then dark fruit. Very smooth with a rather sweet long finish. Interesting Cabernet. Although ready to drink and enjoy now, it definitely has the stuff to go for several more years. Love this wine. (1608 views)
Tasted by bobv on 7/8/2012 & rated 91 points: Nice berry flavors. Smooth, fine finish. (2064 views)
Tasted by TastesGoodToMe on 5/2/2012 & rated 92 points: Consistent with prior note (2024 views)
Tasted by Wine Sparty on 4/12/2012 & rated 89 points: Decanted for about 90 minutes before drinking with grilled flank steak. Aroma is big on coffee. Taste has dark sweet fruit of blackberry and leather. (1951 views)
Tasted by elamasters on 3/12/2012 & rated 92 points: This opens with a very expressive nose of dark fruit and baking spices. On the palate it is a big wine with very finely-textured tannins and a luxurious mouthfeel. It delivers exactly what I would be looking to find in a Howell Mountain Cabernet. (1616 views)
Tasted by kinger0003 on 1/16/2012 & rated 88 points: Decanted for about 1.5 hours. I got a fair amount of cassis and some dark fruit (not a whole lot) with a herb/spice coupled with smoke on the finish. Enjoyable cab but not great. (1661 views)
Tasted by bobv on 1/8/2012 & rated 93 points: Very good. Medium to full body. Full flavored. (1318 views)
Tasted by TastesGoodToMe on 12/26/2011 & rated 93 points: Excellent wine. I love the Howell Mountain fruit. Tasted this originally at Sojourn's Sonoma tasting room this past November and I am glad we purchased (might need to call and order some more!) This is a rich, complex, smooth wine with a medium to long finish. Delicious! (1527 views)
Tasted by rdsboca on 12/3/2011 & rated 92 points: I really liked the rich profile on this wine. It was medium weight and rich. Not quite tot he luscious category but I would definitely seek this producer out in the future. It wasn't really on my radar screen. (1603 views)
Tasted by beezer6 on 11/12/2011 & rated 94 points: Pinot Days 2011 (Navy Pier - Chicago, IL): So the two best wines of the tasting were Cabs - kinda cheating I know - but whatever, they were absolutely gorgeous regardless of the setting.
They could easily go for twice their price maybe thrice if given some crazy Parker scores.
Super heady and hedonistic styling. Totally creamy and rich. Lots of blue high altitude fruit. Really structured but balanced without a touch of abrasiveness.
Great finish. Long and lingering. I'd say you should grab this and age it a minimum five years. But this is worth every penny. (2434 views)
Tasted by etherscreen on 9/24/2011: Deeper and denser in color than the Spring Mountain. More rustic. Plenty of cassis with a darker fruit profile with an herbal edge. Firmer tannins than the Spring Mt. suggestive of its Howell Mt. origin, but everything remains in good balance. Grapes sourced from near Outpost. I prefer the Spring Mt., but this is more of a stylistic preference. (1495 views)
Tasted by MillerRoad on 9/18/2011 & rated 90 points: Of the 2008 Cabs we tried with Craig, this was our number 3. It has a lot more structure that the Spring Mountain, also more tannins. Also has more black fruit, and more pepper. Started out more tart, but it too had a sweeter finish. In general, it seemed to also have more fruit than the Spring Mtn. Right now, of the three Cabs, this one is already more approachable, but can definitely use some more bottle aging time. To me this one would go the best with steak or grilled meat. (1627 views)
Tasted by anonymoose12345 on 8/8/2011 & rated 90 points: Big, big wine. Much bigger than the '07 Spring Mountain which I tasted right before. Needs a lot of time but will be worth the wait. (1534 views)
Tasted by rentmp3 on 7/23/2011 & rated 90 points: Tasted at winery. Darker berries, honeyed, anise; grippy tannins; bitter finish which was distracting. I prefer Sojourn's pinots. 90+ (1543 views)
Tasted by Mattshank on 5/21/2011 & rated 93 points: Sojourn Cellars Private Tasting (Davis's House): Nose: Dark and ripe berry aromas. Palate: Very balanced dark fruit and cassis. Very nice and score upgraded to 93 points. Even though the Proprietary Cuvee edged this out this wine takes top Cab honors for the night if QPR is factored in. 93+ points. (2295 views)
Tasted by rocknroller on 5/21/2011 & rated 92 points: Sojourn Cellars Private Tasting with Craig Haserot (Jeff's Place): Dark red/purple color. This is showing remarkably well for such a youngster. Creme de cassis on the nose with plums and spices. The palate is lush and shows nice layers. Long finish. 92+pts. (2085 views)

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
