Tasted by ChipGreen on 9/26/2017: Agree with boatman72, this wine is drinking very well right now. (1169 views)
Tasted by boatman72 on 9/10/2017 & rated 91 points: Pleasantly surprised on how well this was drinking!! Nice spice and strawberry fruit. This wine is well integrated and balanced with just enough alcohol. Have one more bottle to thoroughly enjoy!! (1167 views)
Tasted by merryberry on 12/17/2015 & rated 91 points: More garnet than last time. Strawberry jam, spice, and a bit of smoke on the nose. Medium to full bodied, crushed raspberries, sweet cherries, well integrated tannins, good acid, white pepper, and a deeply fruited, medium to long finish. One of the best Zins I've ever had. (1577 views)
Tasted by rjquillin on 12/14/2014: T-day bottle to replace the Secolo. Plenty of nice fruit, not overdone, good complexity and balance, no heat; worked well with both turkey and roast. (2757 views)
Tasted by merryberry on 12/11/2014 & rated 90 points: Slightly transparent garnet-tinged magenta. Strawberry jam, spice, and cedar nose. Medium bodied, cranberries, pepper, bright cherries, sage, sweet tannins, a touch of tobacco, and a medium finish. Unimpressive on day 1, but much much better on day 2. (2007 views)
Tasted by iByron on 8/27/2013 & rated 86 points: Dark transparent grape juice color. A wee bit hot on the nose and palate until it blows off. Then it's juicy red and purple fruit with a lightly woody, slightly chocolatey finish. Very good. Finish up the summer at that last cookout with this. (2590 views)
Tasted by trifecta on 7/22/2013: Fruit forward, but in a balanced and restrained way. My typical taste leans toward dry creek zinfandel with more bramble and spice, but this wine makes me want to branch out a bit. Quite enjoyable. (2402 views)
Tasted by PolarBear22 on 2/9/2013 & rated 88 points: Nice color. Good body with balance of fruit and acid. Paired with ribs with slighly sweet sauce. Nice match. (2258 views)
Tasted by nathanbsmith on 2/3/2013 & rated 89 points: Medium bodied, well-balanced, fruit flavors on the nose and palate. Varietals: 90 % Zinfandel, 10% Petite Sirah. Very nice wine by Peter Wellington! (1691 views)
Tasted by nathanbsmith on 1/16/2013 & rated 89 points: Medium bodied, well-balanced, fruit flavors on the nose and palate. (1899 views)
Tasted by jdhart306 on 8/20/2011 & rated 87 points: Nose of dark berries that led to a smooth finish. Paired well with various cheeses but was a little overpowered by dark chocolate. (2504 views)
Tasted by aces219 on 8/12/2011: Smooth and delicious. (2184 views)
Tasted by iByron on 8/4/2011 & rated 85 points: Clear, deep ruby purple red. Fruity nose tempered with some vanilla oak. A bit hot on the nose and palate at first (blows off with time and air). Smooth, juicy, low-tannin palate of plums, grapes, and other purple fruit with a chocolate blueberry cordial finish. All in all a good, representative bottle that drinks very well now. Thats what you should do as it's not likely one for the long term. (2621 views)
Tasted by wineshlub on 6/16/2011 & rated 88 points: Aroma of blackberries and spice. Nice palate of berry fruit and black pepper. There's some heat in the peppery finish. Overall a nicely balanced, classic, and very drinkable Zinfandel. I would prefer a little less sweetness and a little more backbone, but still a delightful wine that should please everyone but the extremists in the anti flavor or hedonist camps.

FWIW, the label says 14.5% alcohol. That may be understating a bit, but it's in the ball park. (2306 views)

Denier-Handal

Producer website
Owner: Alyce Denier & Dick Handal
Founded: Vineyard was founded in 1996, the Winery operation in 2009
Winemaker: Peter Wellington
Location: Glen Ellen, CA

We have been farming winegrapes and producing wines in Ecuador, Chile, and California for over 27 years. Dick got started in Ecuador thanks to Don Angel Duran who took him under his wing
teaching him about farming grapes. He was simply a farmer, the Mayordomo of a large hacienda in the highlands of the Andes outside of Quito, the capital of Ecuador, but he knew about grapes.
While working for the Patron, he was sent to Argentina to learn viticulture. Unfortunately, he could never support his family making wine or Pisco. Then we met, and he found his chance to return
to viticulture. Although we grow mostly Cabernet Sauvignon we have small amounts of wonderful Zinfandel, Petite Sirah, Merlot and Syrah. Thanks to the guidance of Peter Wellington we were
able to start produce excellent wines that he as winemaker, crafted. We are pleased to be able to share these wines with you.

Zinfandel

ZAP: Zinfandel Advocates & Producers | Varietal character (Appellation America) | Wikipedia-Zinfandel

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
