| Community Tasting Notes (average 91.9 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 39 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by subguy87 on 1/25/2022 & rated 89 points: Nice, but body seemed to be thin, not what I have experienced with other Pine Ridge Rutherfords. Had a Pineridge Tessitura afterwards and it had much more body. This vintage may be nearing or past its peak, will target remaining bottles for near term consumption. (369 views) | | Tasted by JFW on 11/26/2020 & rated 91 points: Decanted for two hours. Very soft mouthfeel. A lot of cherry/black cherry notes. Rich, but not cloying or overpowering. (612 views) | | Tasted by iamandyc on 1/24/2018 & rated 92 points: Still going strong. Fruit is the star here as there was some complexity but definitely nuanced. Mixture of dark and red fruit that was very pure with nice structure to keep it lively. Could tell it was valley floor in its opulence vs. a hillside wine we drank afterwards. (1432 views) | | Tasted by pugblanc on 1/21/2018 & rated 91 points: Floral, cranberry, drinking very nice. Great open. (1436 views) | | Tasted by EMTAME on 3/10/2017 & rated 93 points: A little restrained on the nose, but the palate is outstanding. Mature red and black fruits, the faintest hint of earth, and velvety tannins with a long close. Excellent. (1709 views) | | Tasted by jfarley3 on 8/15/2016 & rated 91 points: Robust, but enjoyable now. Full red fruit with dusty tannins, has a soft texture. Well balanced and not overpowering, long finish. (1566 views) | | Tasted by jmcnewjersey on 4/25/2016 & rated 95 points: Incredibly expressive on nose & palate. Big fruit, great complexity. Outperformed expectations. This is a "wow" wine, no doubt about it! Slight Port-like quality, in a very good way. (1468 views) | | Tasted by Coachron13 on 4/6/2015 & rated 93 points: Consistent with prior notes from 2013 except tannins have calmed even more. Has continued to age well. Still many years left in it. (1344 views) | | Tasted by WilliamF17 on 1/16/2015 flawed bottle: Cork Failed/leaked; musty, oxidized, metallic aromas, metallic flavors, "porty" rubberific overwhelming vibe; SO Dead. Replaced by the winery. (1164 views) | | Tasted by pugblanc on 11/12/2014 & rated 94 points: Rutherford dust and cocoa. Earthy. Raspberry. Chocolate. Full body elegance. Vanilla. Still young but very nice - bitter chocolate. (1347 views) | | Tasted by Frabjous on 7/5/2013: This is a dark, rich sumptuous wine. We’re going to leave the last bottle on its side for many more years and it will be KILLER. (2137 views) | | Tasted by Coachron13 on 1/17/2013 & rated 93 points: Strong nose of berry and plum. Tannins hit you but don't overwhelm it. Excellent cab with tons of life left in it. (2277 views) | | Tasted by bibendumrrb on 8/28/2012 & rated 95 points: Very approachable. Deep fruits. Soft tannins. Ready now. (2489 views) | | Tasted by Frabjous on 12/25/2011 & rated 91 points: Had for Christmas day dinner with Walt & Catherine. No detailed tasting notes but a very delicious, flavourful wine enjoyed by all.
Will benefit from more time in the cellar but drinking very well in its youth now.
Drink or hold if you can >=2013 (2757 views) | | Tasted by redrules on 7/13/2011 & rated 94 points: Pine Ridge at it's finest. Robert Parker nailed the description. Lovely now, but will be great in 2 years. Going to buy a couple more. (3105 views) | | Only displaying the 25 most recent notes - click to see all notes for this wine... |
| Pine Ridge Vineyards Producer websiteCabernet SauvignonCabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.
Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet SauvignonUSAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Napa Valley Napa Valley Wineries and Wine (Napa Valley Vintners)Rutherford Rutherford,
