Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 89.5 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 15 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by brooklynguy on 4/7/2019: There is a half hour of brightness where the wine shows clean and vivid aromas and flavors - pear and minerals and the toffee notes of old Chardonnay, but energetically. Then thenwine fades and becomes more flat and the oxidized elements come across more strongly. It was a fun and very lovely 30 minutes. (2225 views)
Tasted by cortoncharlie on 9/15/2018: recently deceased. (1999 views)
Tasted by DaleW on 9/5/2016: Alive, honied pear fruit, a little wax, not very exciting. B- (2678 views)
Tasted by DaleW on 11/6/2015: Weird showing, quite advanced compared to last bottle, then it seemed to freshen up a bit in glass. Nutty, marzipan notes over sweet fruit, then more oxidized notes reappeared. Not good bottle (3098 views)
Tasted by tinybubbles on 11/4/2015 flawed bottle: Oxidized. (3197 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 12/16/2013: Chicago Wine Flock..."Wines that Jim Wanted to Compare" ("Chateau La Grange" - La Grange IL): Tasted double blind. I thought this Chardonnay but most likely Burgundy from the early 80s. Lean and elegant with good energy, but with little freshness and probably far less interesting than it would have been a decade ago. (3662 views)
 Tasted by keithgg on 10/10/2012 & rated 92 points: montrachet-like. (3331 views)
Tasted by AndrewSGHall on 7/5/2012: Incredible. Rich and succulent as well as precise. Mineral dry down. Great structure. So good. (2047 views)
Tasted by rjonwine@gmail.com on 9/17/2011 & rated 90 points: Great California Chardonnay and Cabernet: From 1965 to Present (Le Bordeaux Restaurant, San Francisco, California): Medium golden yellow color; butter, hazelnut, honeycomb nose with a little oxidation; tasty, creamy textured, slightly oxidized, baked lemon palate, a little honeyed; medium-plus finish 90+ points (1992 views)
Tasted by stevetimko on 9/3/2011: There was a touch of oxidation but otherwise this wine was still going strong. No noticeable oak, but the texture suggests it has at least seen neutral oak. On the nose, I'd say flowers and white apples. It's starting to develop secondary characteristics but I wouldn't say it has hit middle age. Nice acidity. I wish I had more. (2203 views)
Tasted by DUSTOFF on 11/15/2008 & rated 87 points: Slightly maderized but just enough life to show what it should have been. (2619 views)
Tasted by winelovr2001 on 1/19/2008 & rated 91 points: Still holding strong, drinking great at this stage and tasting like a baby. (1951 views)
Tasted by srigisich on 12/8/2007 & rated 85 points: Nice flora on the nose, young light golden color. Some acidity up front with nice summer flowers and pit fruits on the palate. Short finish. One of teh best of a series of SH'd I have consumed over the past few weeks but still nothing to get excited about. (1721 views)
Tasted by EMichels on 11/25/2007 flawed bottle: Oxidized or just really over the hill; Either way - no score (1905 views)
Tasted by buckeye76 on 6/20/2004 & rated 92 points: NICE CTRUS FRUITS AND MELONS IN THE NOSE AND FLAVOR. MEDIUM LENGTH FINISH. (372 views)

The Chardonnay Grape

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
