one of the best Sancerre I've ever had, this was the 5th out of 6 purchased on release, every one has been superb, this is one of my most treasured bottles...
bright and vibrant nose, citrus and delicate green tones, citrus blossoms too... residual sugar is quite obvious on the palate, full and rich, but fresh and balanced, a bit freakish but I love it, will be worth following many more years
we accidentally created a "super cuvee" by pouring both Pascal's and Francois' La Grande Cote 2010 into the same bottle, its pretty good as a blend, but I think the Francois alone was the better wine by far (824 views) | | Tasted by drwine2001 on 9/1/2021: Medium greenish yellow. Ripe stone fruit and citrus. Moderately sweet and full bodied, lacking a bit of intensity mid-palate. There is a hint of Sauvignon varietal character but mostly honey and ripe fruit backed by excellent acidity. This is essentially Vendange Tardive Sancerre. I liked it, but it is definitely odd and not for everyone, especially if you are looking for classic Sancerre. (1734 views) | | Tasted by j45 on 5/22/2020: The residual sugar in this wine is really bothersome. It should be designated Sancerre Spätlese or Demi-Sec. (1611 views) | | Tasted by jhw425 on 3/29/2020 & rated 90 points: On the sweeter side. Was great with fresh asparagus + vinaigrette but a little cloying on its own (1658 views) | | Tasted by JWdeSommelier on 12/15/2017 & rated 93 points: Tasted blind. Something special, very rich nose, sweet white peach, apricot, apple, hint of lemon, very floral, blossom, honeysuckle. Very rich palate, where the greenish sauvignon/pyrazine is coming more upfront. Very herbal, rich fruit, absolutely some RS but the screeming acid is hide it all away from you, honeyed, hint of botrytis, perfect balance. Blind I thought vouvray (like Foreau) but then this came up....Great wine. (3008 views) | | Tasted by M&D24 on 4/7/2017: Tried my last bottle.....still sweet and this is not what i expected upon purchase. Very disappointed as Cotat is one of my go to references for Sancerre. Tough to give it "points" as it is a pleasant wine but should not be sweet. (3050 views) | | Tasted by Kriz on 5/25/2016 & rated 92 points: Masterclass Sancerre Domaine François Cotat by Moritz Peeters (Restaurant Dertien Rotterdam): Not very expressive on the nose. Nice minerality with some residual sugar on the palate. Great balance, great wine. (3299 views) | | Tasted by francois999 on 3/3/2015 & rated 92 points: The wine looks light gold colored. It smells like grapefruit, peach and pear. Long The body is medium/full. The wine has polished texture. The wine finishes long, deep. The wine has low acidity. Great Wine (2840 views) | | Tasted by M&D24 on 10/21/2013 flawed bottle: This was strange and very disappointing. I guess you would have to call it "flawed." I opened this at dinner with a few of my Wino friends and lo, and behold, it was noticeably sweet! This has never happened to me with a Cotat bottling and was totally unexpected. I was expecting the usual, mineral, citric qualities that I love in Sancerre and this was a total surprise. I have a few left so we shall see if this is a strange outlier or a totally weird bottling. (4136 views) | | Tasted by alanr on 6/26/2013 & rated 91 points: Nothing on the nose. Zip. But the palate makes up for that with quite rich, round stone fruit, peach pit, touch of salinity, and hints of dry, stony minerality on the finish. Acidity is moderate, but enough to provide decent balance. Mid-palate is strong, then the rush of minerality, but finishes a bit weak. Very enjoyable, but falls a little short as a reference wine in a great vintage. (2405 views) | | Tasted by grafstrb on 10/5/2012 flawed bottle: in-bottle secondary fermentation. Bummer. (3433 views) | | Tasted by grafstrb on 8/10/2012 flawed bottle: -- popped and poured -- -- tasted non-blind over a couple hours --
NOSE: expressive; grassy; fresh salad greens; pear; oxidized pear and apple.
BODY: pale yellow color of light depth; little bit of sediment present; medium-light bodied; fizzy.
TASTE: zippy – a bit effervescent; notes of apple, pear, and jalapeno; hint of mineral, too; this bottle is FLAWED as a result of in-bottle secondary fermentation, but was actually, nonetheless, quite tasty. This is 4th bottle of this particular bottling that I’m aware of that had in-bottle secondary issues, so perhaps there was a widespread problem with this bottling? NOSE: very floral and powdery; slightly musky with a hint of cumin; not very complex and/or tight.
BODY: pale yellow color; medium bodied.
TASTE: deep tropical fruits; lots of mineral; papaya; hint of Strawberry Runts candy; slightly smoky; good acidity, but not tart; strong mineral on the finish, which is of medium length and moderate intensity; alcohol not noticeable (14% abv); seems tight, as this comes across as a very well-made, but somewhat simple, wine. This Sancerre is dry – it is less sweet, and hides its alcohol better, than the 2010 “Les Culs de Beaujeu” from the same producer: this might be a “better wine” than the Les Culs de Beaujeu, as it’s a more well-balanced wine, but I find the Les Culs de Beaujeu to be a more interesting wine today (and possibly even the better wine in the long run, too). Would like to see this with some age on it. Hold.
