Community Tasting Notes (average 93.7 pts. and median of 94 pts. in 28 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by joshabramson on 1/18/2024 & rated 96 points: Needed some air to come alive, but this was very nice! Beautiful aromatics! Probably will better in a few years… still a bit wound up, but already delicious. (733 views)
Tasted by burg_gram_Jason on 1/19/2021 & rated 95 points: Purity and harmony. Ethereal that packs heavyweight punch. Seriously delicious right now (does need a slow ox for 2 hours or 30-1hr decant if you don't mind missing out on some initial aromas of fleeting rose petals.) There's enough grip and structure to see this 1er cru juice thru expiry of most grand crus. Just a stunning effort. (2884 views)
Tasted by Burgnick on 2/24/2020 & rated 92 points: Immensely floral with potpourri, flowers, rose petal, citrus, vanilla, coffee beans and red currant. Palate was silky and alluring but lacking mid palate weight for a Fuees. A feminine wine that is drinking so well. No reason to wait. (3333 views)
Tasted by Jammy Wine on 1/24/2020 & rated 92 points: The 2010 J F Muginer Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru Les Fuees initially was dusty but opened up nicely after a few minutes. Tasted blind at Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru dinner – The bouquet of elegant mixed berries, orange peel and nuanced earth is distinctive of J M Mugnier. Light Premier Cru weight, sweet and delicate berries with fine ripeness and acidity, pointing towards 2010? J F Mugnier Les Amoureuses? (91-92/100) (3299 views)
(3498 views)
Tasted by Charlie C on 1/19/2019 & rated 92 points: Still developing. Earthy notes on the nose. Soft strawberry fruit, earthy, fine tannins, nice acidity. Long, long finish. Nice now, better with 3 years or so more aging. (3507 views)
Tasted by decaturwinedude on 7/11/2018 & rated 93 points: The nose here is so it: Earthy, floral, wild berries. Tea spice and pepper. Red Burg nose that I love. Palate is so integrated and pure. I hate the term sexy used to describe wine, but this wine is. Yet it still feels so youthful. Delicacy and charm. Very Chambolle. Lovely wine already. Thanks, Don. (3234 views)
Tasted by Ramberg on 4/10/2018 & rated 96 points: One of my favorite wines, from one of my absolute favorite producers in my favorite vintage.
In other words, a perfect starting point.
A divine Pinot nose rises up from the glass!
The pure essence of Chambolle.
Floral perfume, light and airy, with sun ripe wild strawberries, sexy perfume, freshly showered young woman, just bright and clean, all the way, like a ballerina.
Palate is equally amazing.
Deep yet airy and light.
Bright berries, cherries and crushed rocks with mineral dust.
Perfect balance between fine wood, spices, ripe fruits and lovely intense acidity.
Simply superbly chiseled out of the best possible terroir and fruits.
Had to open one more bottle, since this was just so amazing, and that was just as good as this one!
A masterpiece, you can’t beat the beauty of this. (2074 views)
Tasted by ChambertinMan on 1/7/2017 & rated 91 points: Shares some distinctive aromatic notes with wines from its Grand Cru neighbor Bonnes Mares with scents of wild red berries and stalk, dry leaf and stony soil, crushed pepper, bergamot and citrus rind. Revealing itself beautifully at a young age. Tannins remain powerful and still dominate the fruit and acidity on the finish leaving an slightly enclosed mouthfeel - look forward to how this mellows when tamed by time as the bouquet is pure delight. (4145 views)
Tasted by DCornutt on 6/30/2016: So good! Transparent. Seductive. Long on the finish. Really perfect Fuees. (4613 views)
Tasted by galenico on 5/10/2016 & rated 93 points: MASTER BORGOGNA 2016; 5/10/2016-7/10/2016 (LA MADERNASSA RESORT GUARENE): Una sfera antiproiettili protegge il microcosmo perfetto in cui ogni parte lavora all' unisono, senza soluzione di continuità.
Tasted by drwine2001 on 6/12/2014: A Few Days in Paris; 6/10/2014-6/14/2014 (Various Locations, Paris): Light to medium red. Explosive nose with charred, bacony scents followed by the full array of intense red fruits-strawberry, raspberry, and cherry. Gorgeous feel on the palate for a light weight wine, but some tannins add a good bit of grip at the end. At once both sexy and clearly holding a lot in reserve. By way of comparison, less forward on the palate than 2010 Angerville Champans yesterday. This is quintessential Chambolle in its delicacy and character of its all red fruit (although not quite as much for the very noticeable barrel contribution). So glad to have a chance to try it even if much too young. (7464 views)
Tasted by Tavastgatan on 5/17/2014 & rated 93 points: Intoxicating nose and fine energy. Some fudge and sweet notes, which is a minus in my book. Hold. (6463 views)
Tasted by Ramberg on 5/15/2014 & rated 96 points: This is just such a super clean and transparent Chambolle!
Brings tears to my eyes.
Read my previous note for further details if you are interested, since that says it all.
However, this has somewhat closed down slightly since last time I had it, and my guess is that this will need to rest for about 4 – 5 years in order to surface again at absolute top level.
Make no mistake, this is a serious and truly great Chambolle. (5558 views)
Tasted by WillersC on 3/22/2014 & rated 94 points: A waste right now, but a lovely bottle of Chambolle. Crystalline red fruits, very smooth and refined on the palate with tons of length. A little milk chocolate on the tale end due to the integrated oak (at this point). Really lovely though (4522 views)
Tasted by JJB88 on 5/30/2013: A more refined nose than the 2009 with red fruits and minerality intermingling. The minerality is apparent again with a reserved fruit character on the elegant palate which has considerable length. Certainly leaner than the 2009 but the energy and transparency of the vintage show through. Very fine Chambolle and has plenty more to give. (5195 views)
Tasted by godx on 4/22/2013 & rated 92 points: France 2013 - Côte d'Or; 4/20/2013-4/23/2013 (Beaune): This had a much prettier nose than the 2010 Meo Feusselottes with perfumey notes off dark raspberries and spice. Very pure and precise with fine tannins and great acidity. While this is wonderful now in a youthful way, this truly needs 7-10+ years at least to reach its potential. Excellent. 92+ (3580 views)
Tasted by Ramberg on 2/26/2013 & rated 96 points: Good damn!
Had this is a little bonus wine, outside of tonight’s Jaques – Frédéric Mugnier tasting in Stockholm.
Served blind (complimentary of a good friend) and no doubt, what so ever, where this beautiful wine came from!
It had Chambolle written all over it!
And what a beautiful Chambolle it is.
Again, crafted by the wizard of Chambolle, deep down in his dark, cold and damp cellars.
This is one of the best experiences I have had in a long time.
Such a “love” wine!
So feminine, so beautiful and so good.
I can’t really put words on this, but this is why I love Burgundy.
Such a clean, pure and well structured, mineral and terroir driven wine this is.
A great wine from a great vintage.
It’s just flawless.
I was leaning towards Les Amoureuses, but it had something other special in it, that kept me from being really sure.
I love Les Fuees.
It’s kind of the bridge between Musigny and Bonnes Mares, with the feminine part from Musigny, the minerals and the transparency from les Amoureuses, and the extra depth from Bonnes Mares in a perfect mixture.
And from this producer, in this vintage, it’s a killer!
Oozing of expensive perfume á la Chambolle, clean sheets with a touch of a clean woman’s scent left on them, crushed rocks, minerals (in it’s true meaning), lovely wild strawberries, flowers, acidity and all of this mixed together in a truly extraordinary pool of pure sex and joy!
So beautiful.
Hard to keep the tears back!
Trés Chambolle! (4889 views)
Tasted by St Paul on 3/22/2012 & rated 94 points: This is so transparent and beautiful. Lovely red berries, but also some black, some spices and a stunning fresh acidity. This is so pure and full of minerals with a great great length. I love this wine and I wonder if there is anyone making a wine with this finesse this year. (4254 views)
Tasted by MatthewF on 3/12/2012: Domaine Tasting at J.F. Mugnier (Burgundy, France): From tank at the Domaine, just prior to bottling. Slightly darker color than the Chambolle Villages. Again, primarily red fruit notes with some bluer berry notes in the background. Floral tones. Great structure and concentration of fruit on the palate with refreshing acidity. Medium plus finish. More elegantly styled than I usually find this wine. (4761 views)
Tasted by rnellans on 11/21/2011 & rated 92 points: In barrel at domaine. Dark. Smoke and spice aromas. More depth than the village. Dark fruits. Good structure and relatively soft tannins. (4341 views)
Tasted by godx on 7/13/2011: France 2011 - Côte d'Or; 7/8/2011-7/13/2011 (Beaune): Tasted at the Domaine. From barrel. Pretty and delicate nose of red plums and raspberries with hints of spice. A deeper wine than the sample of Combe d'Orveaux with a vibrant mouthfeel, solid acidity and nonintrusive tannins. Well balanced. This is excellent already. (90-93). (5374 views)

Pinot Noir

Varietal character (Appellation America) | Varietal article (Wikipedia)
Pinot Noir is the Noble red grape of Burgundy, capable of ripening in a cooler climate, which Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot will not reliably do. It is unpredictable and difficult both to grow and to vinify, but results in some of the finest reds in the world. It is believed to have been selected from wild vines two thousand years ago. It is also used in the production of champagne. In fact, more Pinot Noir goes into Champagne than is used in all of the Cote d'Or! It is also grown in Alsace, Jura, Germany, the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Romania, Switzerland, Austria, Croatia, Serbia, Italy, and so forth, with varying degrees of success.

Pinot Noir is one of the world's most prestigious grapes. It is very difficult to grow and thrives well in France, especially in Champagne and Burgundy. Pinot Noir thrives less in hot areas, is picky on soil, and deserves some oak storage.

Pinot Noir, or Blauburgunder / Spätburgunder in German, is a blue grapevine - and, as the German name suggests, the grape comes originally from Burgundy in France.

The grape, which thrives in calcareous soils, is used primarily for the production of red wine, and it is widely regarded as producing some of the best wines in the world. The wine style is often medium-bodied with high fruit acidity and soft tannins. It can be quite peculiar in fragrance and taste, and not least in structure - which may be why it is referred to as "The Grapes Ballerina".
Pinot Noir is also an important ingredient in sparkling wines, not least in champagne since it is fruity, has good acidity and contains relatively little tannins.
The grape is considered quite demanding to grow. The class itself consists of tightly packed grapes, which makes it more sensitive to rot and other diseases.

Pinot Noir changes quite easily and is genetically unstable. It buds and matures early which results in it often being well ripened. Climate is important for this type of grape. It likes best in cool climates - in warm climates the wines can be relaxed and slightly pickled.
In cooler climates, the wine can get a hint of cabbage and wet leaves, while in slightly warmer regions we often find notes of red berries (cherries, strawberries, raspberries, currants), roses and slightly green notes when the wine is young. With age, more complex aromas of forest floor, fungi and meat emerge.

In Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Hungary, it often produces light wines with less character. However, it has produced very good results in California, Oregon and New Zealand.

With its soft tannins and delicate aroma, it is excellent for white fish, chicken and light meat. For the stored wines you can serve small game. Classic duck breast is a matter of course, a Boeuf Burgundy and Pinot Noir are pure happiness.

Pinot Noir loses quality by over-harvesting.
Pinot Noir is prone to diseases, especially rot and mildew. Viruses cause major problems especially in Burgundy.
Pinot Noir are large round grapes with thin skins. Relatively high in alcohol content. Medium rich tannins and good with acid.
As a young person, Pinot Noir has a distinctly fruity character such as raspberries, cherries and strawberries.
A mature Pinot Noir, the taste is different. Cherry goes into plum and prune flavors. It smells of rotten leaves, coffee, moist forest floor and animal wine. This must be experienced.
In warm climates you find boiled plum, some rustic, little acid.
If the grapes are over-grown, the wine will be thin, with little color and flavor.

Burgundy

Les vins de Bourgogne (Bureau interprofessionnel des vins de Bourgogne) (and in English)

Burgundy - The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Cote d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Cote de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Cote de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Cote d'Or. Also included by some are the regions of Chablis and Auxerrois, farther north.

# 2013 Vintage Notes:
* "2013 is a vintage that 20 years ago would have been a disaster." - Will Lyons
* "low yields and highly variable reds, much better whites." - Bill Nanson
* "Virtually all wines were chaptalised, with a bit of sugar added before fermentation to increase the final alcohol level." - Jancis Robinson

# 2014 Vintage Notes:
"We have not had such splendid harvest weather for many years. This will ensure high quality (fragrant, classy and succulent are words already being used) across the board, up and down the hierarchy and well as consistently from south to north geographically apart from those vineyards ravaged by the hail at the end of June." - Clive Coates

# 2015 Vintage Notes:
"Low yields and warm weather allowed for ample ripeness, small berries and an early harvest. Quality is looking extremely fine, with some people whispering comparisons with the outstanding 2005 vintage. Acid levels in individual wines may be crucial." - Jancis Robinson

# 2017 Vintage Notes:
"Chablis suffered greatly from frost in 2017, resulting in very reduced volumes. As ever, the irony seems to be that what remains is very good quality, as it is in the Côte d’Or. Cooler nights across the region have resulted in higher-than-usual acidity, with good conditions throughout the harvest season allowing for ripe, healthy fruit." - Jancis Robinson

# 2018 Vintage Notes:
"The most successful region for red Burgundy in 2018 was the Côte de Beaune. The weather was ideal in this area, with just enough sunlight and rain to produce perfectly balanced wines naturally." - Vinfolio

Côte de Nuits

on weinlagen.info

Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru

Chambolle-Musigny is one of the smallest appellations of the Côte de Nuits, although given the tiny, fragmented nature of Burgundy vineyards, it manages to fit two exceptional Grand Crus (Bonnes Mares and Le Musigny) and a couple of dozen Premieres Crus. These wines are known for delicacy and tend to be light in body, but concentrated and with fragrent bouquets. The critic Robert M. Parker Jr. quotes French poet Gaston Roupnel as likening the region's wines to "silk and lace."
----
