Community Tasting Notes (average 91.8 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 54 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Mic Mac on 2/24/2024: Nice big bold red. (129 views)
Tasted by jayw on 11/13/2023: No noticeable hotness despite the 16% alcohol level. Decadent and delicious, very ripe and rich. Dark fruit, chocolate, spice, and smoke. Expressive nose. Fine tannins and a seductive silky texture. Drink now or hold for 2-3 years at most. (168 views)
Tasted by Tippy78 on 7/9/2023 & rated 90 points: Strong powerful red wine but no tannin left. Yum but still beefy and Australian. (210 views)
Tasted by Bonesetter on 1/27/2023 & rated 91 points: Shiraz nose, more generic"dark fruit" than plums or blackberries on the nose. Medium to full bodied on the palate, with fruitcake and graphite. Very little cool climate pepper. (414 views)
Tasted by jayw on 10/5/2021: Syrupy thick and very rich. The fruit is over the top and so is the alcohol, but if you're in the mood for a flamboyant Australian Shiraz this is it. No rush to drink this up. (1050 views)
Tasted by Palacedad on 6/26/2021 & rated 90 points: How do I describe this wine..? 16.0% alcohol, and I’m not sure why. It’s kind of thick and rich.
I was interested to try it, particularly at 12 years old, but it’s not to my taste. There’s probably a good reason that 14.5% is a popular alcohol limit, and it’s there that I find the wines that I really enjoy.
Still in good condition in a magnum format. (1147 views)
Tasted by jayw on 11/21/2020: Abundant ripe blackberry, eucalyptus, oak. Plenty of life left. Screwcap closure. (1197 views)
Tasted by amongiel on 3/26/2020 & rated 93 points: Still has more time. (1298 views)
Tasted by EdKz@comcast.net on 12/8/2019 & rated 90 points: Fine laden sentiment, balanced dark red fruitiness, oxidized rapidly,
drink now and drink with friends or vacuvin between pours (1206 views)
Tasted by whudock on 11/14/2019 & rated 90 points: solid fruit, powerful and yet nuanced. (1085 views)
Tasted by Andrew67 on 10/21/2018 & rated 90 points: I can't quite reconcile the balance of the wine. The fruit is typically Heathcote, with mint, eucalypt, plums and blueberry. For me the acidity is not quite right. I figure this is a wine on the downslope, which is disappointing given the pedigree. (1338 views)
Tasted by Quarked on 10/28/2017 & rated 91 points: Beautiful wine, with exotic spice, a hint of oak, lovely blue fruits. Tannins are well resolved. But this still seemed incredibly young. I wouldn't be surprised if this had another decade of life. (1478 views)
Tasted by jackaroo on 9/10/2017: Easily a first growth. (1458 views)
Tasted by jackaroo on 8/29/2017: A truly "great" wine. A complete miscarriage of justice that the Wine Library can no longer ship to Georgia. (1405 views)
Tasted by jackaroo on 5/20/2017 & rated 96 points: No decant necessary Impossible to find another $30.00 Shiraz this good. (1383 views)
Tasted by pkatz on 10/3/2016 & rated 92 points: Juicy, eucalyptus and menthol. (1490 views)
Tasted by Mic Mac on 6/19/2016: Just opened so needs to breathe but the screwcap liner is stained. Dairy milk chocolate and malt over red and black berries on the nose. Concentrated fruit, but light on its feet for such a big wine. Good length. Very, Very Good. (1405 views)
Tasted by jackaroo on 4/21/2016 & rated 94 points: A first growth albeit down under or where ever. Excellent! (1400 views)
Tasted by pols on 12/27/2015 & rated 90 points: Little hot to start, smoothed out an hour in (1589 views)
Tasted by BrunelloBob on 10/17/2015: Better than average Shiraz. A buy uneder $20 (1621 views)
Tasted by jackaroo on 8/20/2015: Opened up after a four hour decant. A great wine! (1576 views)
Tasted by ipp on 6/21/2015 & rated 93 points: What a great value! This wine has good fruit, good structure and good tannins. It is a fruit-forward style shiraz. It is loaded with perceivably sweet berries and dark fruit. I love it ... especially at it's price point. (1552 views)
Tasted by drdecanto on 11/2/2014 & rated 93 points: Similar notes. Lovely wine. (2277 views)
Tasted by cmr on 7/12/2014 & rated 92 points: Really nice .. Perfect balance, dark fruit and just the right amount of oak. (2088 views)
Tasted by 3daywinereview.com on 2/28/2014 & rated 92 points: As an aussie expert this wine is a great value at $30 a bottle delivered. Coffee, spice, vanilla, crushed rock and dark fruits. Medium to long finish and concentrated wine. Very young but so delicious that it is hard not to drink now. Should age for a decade. (2389 views)

Wild Duck Creek Shiraz Springflat

Springflat Shiraz is our original flagship wine having been made every vintage since 1991.

Springflat Shiraz is a blend of 4 distinct estate grown vineyards in the Heathcote region. Parcels of fruit are picked and vinified separately, whilst utilising a small amount of whole bunches in the ferments for added texture. Hand plunged, slowly basket pressed and then matured in French and American oak hogsheads for up to 22 months, 40% of which are new.
