And that’s being nice. (578 views) | | Tasted by FlyPig on 12/29/2017 & rated 88 points: Meh. If blind against $20 wines don’t think I could have picked it out. Lack of body, fruit is present but not overly impressive, finish is thin. Disappointing. (1150 views) | | Tasted by Cristal2000 on 6/21/2016 & rated 92 points: Interesting wine from Pott. Not sure what the percentages are here, but you can taste a lot of Merlot. Pretty mature at this point, with earthy minerality and leather notes on the pallet. Very nicely balanced wine and easy to drink. Certainly reminds me of a right bank bordeaux, showing lots of elegance and finesse. Sediment is significant. (1888 views) | | Tasted by mflesh on 4/28/2013: Enjoyed at Nick and Sam's Steakhouse Uptown Dallas. I give this an NR as I don't think this wine was decanted nearly long enough. This wine was decanted for probably 40 minutes before it was really served. I tell you this one was a bit different. This "Merlot forward" wine really changed things up, yet had just enough Cab and other varietals that it kind of attenuated the stink of the Merlot (sorry Napa Sommeliers, I'll say "austerity"). Poured a very dense almost black into the ionized glass. The wine was already showing some crushed grape stem, grape leaf tang, and dirty black cherry with this sweetness somewhere in there. The wine on the palate was all Merlot forward with a darker, dense earthy punch, but then turned dark into blackberry and a hint of licorice. The wine finished with some fig, high cacao dark chocolate. Didn't ever lose its density. However, when the steak came this wine was eclipsed quite easily by a 2007 Sartori Corte Bra Amarone that picked it up and slam dunked it into the second row of the wrestling arena (for half price). This wine probably would have presented a little better if it had decanted half the night. Sorry...just didn't last that long. (3091 views) | | Tasted by JayLevy on 3/31/2013 & rated 93 points: Really enjoyed it - decanted it for about 2 hrs and was very balanced. (3241 views) | | Tasted by FlyPig on 3/17/2013 & rated 92 points: Very good, but very young. Opened up after 2 hours in a decanter then back in the bottle overnight. Great blueberry/blackberry nose and taste. (2413 views) | | Tasted by Silveradoup on 2/5/2012 & rated 95 points: This is my style of wine. Decanted 3 hours. Stewed dark cherry flavors, earthiness from the cab franc and sweet tannins. I am becoming a huge fan of Arron Pott's wines, they have all been amazing so far. This wine will only get better in the years to come! (2486 views) |
| Pott Wine Producer websiteRed Bordeaux BlendRed Bordeaux is generally made from a blend of grapes. Permitted grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and rarely Carménère.Today Carménère is rarely used, with Château Clerc Milon, a fifth growth Bordeaux, being one of the few to still retain Carménère vines. As of July 2019, Bordeaux wineries authorized the use of four new red grapes to combat temperature increases in Bordeaux. These newly approved grapes are Marselan, Touriga Nacional, Castets, and Arinarnoa.
Wineries all over the world aspire to making wines in a Bordeaux style. In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify wines made in this way. Although most Meritage wines come from California, there are members of the Meritage Association in 18 states and five other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Israel, and Mexico.USAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Napa / SonomaSONOMA: The Yorkville Highlands AVA, approved in 1998, is located in the southwestern corner of Mendocino County, between Sonoma County's Alexander Valley to the South and Mendocino County!s Anderson Valley to the North. The region is 25 miles long, roughly in the shape of rectangle and bisected by Highway 128 which runs the length of the AVA. The region!s terrain is hilly and forested, with elevations ranging from 1,078 to 2,442 feet above sea level. The distinguishing features of the Yorkville Highlands AVA are rocky soils with a high gravel content and the climate, which is cooler than Alexander Valley but warmer than Anderson Valley, and significantly cooler at night than the surrounding areas.CarnerosStraddles the southern ends of Napa & Sonoma Counties. |
