Tasted by isaacjamesbaker on 1/16/2017 & rated 90 points: Double-blind Tasting (Weygandt Wines - Washington, D.C.): Aromas: austere, chalk, lime, sea salt, crusty mineral. Palate: So much saline, limes and lemons drizzled with chalk.
Guess: 2010 Muscadet Granit (1198 views)
Tasted by isaacjamesbaker on 2/24/2013 & rated 88 points: MuscaDay 2013 (Tom's House - Washington, DC): Aromas of crushed sea shells, salted lime and brisk minerals. The palate is spritzy and rich with melon shell, lemon curd and sea brine flavors. Rich, but very tangy. (2797 views)
Tasted by isaacjamesbaker on 7/12/2012 & rated 89 points: Mostly Loire Wines (Weygandt Wines - Washington, D.C.): This wine was not tasted blind, but I like to think I would've guessed it as a muscadet because it's just so classic. Aromas of lemon-lime, sea shells, white flowers and a bit of potpourri. The palate is zippy with acid, showing lots of lemons, melon rind and even a bit of pineapple. Focused, mineral-driven, yet creamy at the same time. Gorgeous finish. This wine will improve with a few years, but it's so clean and refreshing right now. (2896 views)
Tasted by jahlove on 4/24/2012: Delicious as before. Even on day 3 it's still singing. Good stuff. (2499 views)
Tasted by isaacjamesbaker on 2/11/2012 & rated 89 points: Thirsty Saturday (Washington, D.C.): Man, I love muscadet, and this is why. The nose is vibrant and zesty with lemon-lime, minerals and crushed rocks. The palate is lively, with a jolt of lime juice, some brie rind and melon peel. Delicious, bring on the fish and chips. (2667 views)
Tasted by tooch on 9/30/2011: Another stellar bottle with wonderful aromatics and a briny-ness on the palate that is addicting. (1880 views)
Tasted by jahlove on 9/29/2011: Fantastic bottle of wine. Everything you could ask for out of this varietal and this region. Right out of the fridge it's just too cold to enjoy. But get it up to room temp and this baby just hums with energy. The nose is a glorious monument to the striking mineral streak found only in this grape, grown in this place. Picture fresh squeezed lemon juice cascading over a totem of stone. Now add a dozen raw oysters from the PNW perched on a bed of seaweed and ice and you've basically have what amounts to a wet dream, at least in my world. A hit of grapefruit strikes the mid to back end of the palate, leaving the mouth wanting for....well, food. Alas, my passion for wine is revealed. I like wines that induce an emotional response...in my belly that is. (921 views)
Tasted by tooch on 9/22/2011: Incredible cut and focus on this mineral driven Muscadet. In additional to the minerals, this has a really polished lemon component that brings a lot of lift and acidity. Had this alongside some sushi and couldn't have asked for a better pairing. (780 views)

Melon de Bourgogne

Melon de Bourgogne or Melon is a variety of white grape grown primarily in the Loire Valley region of France. It is also grown in North America. It is best known through its use in the white wine Muscadet.

In the U.S., Federal law prevents "Muscadet" from being used for American-produced wine; only the full name of the grape, or the shortened "Melon" can be used.
