Still deep, indigo color. Lots of berry on the front palate...very fruit forward. Lots of backbone...to be expected from a cab franc. Full bodied with a lingering, slightly astringent finish. Consistent with my previous notes, this was inky purple in color with a floral nose. Quite fruit forward with blackberry and cassis most prominent. Medium bodied with plenty of backbone. Opens with a hint of sweetness, devolving to mocha on the mid palate. Long, lingering finish. This provided a marvelous transition from the more delicate '84 Mouton and '95 Calon-Segur to the bolder Dominus and Insignia. Light nose of fig and light floral aromas belie a wonderfully flavored Cab Franc. Opens with a bit of sweetness on the front palate, cocoa on the mid palate, silky tannins and a long lingering finish highlighted by cassis and a touch of oak. A wonderful accompaniment to smoky, bacon infused chowder and prosciutto wrapped, stuffed chicken breast in a sweet and spicy pepper sauce. (1121 views) | | Tasted by rmcnees on 11/21/2014 & rated 93 points: Bright dark ruby/purple colored, medium to full bodied, this was bright vibrant full forward black berry and currant fruit with a bold punch of sweet almost cinnamon spice accented by tones of mocha chocolate, soft sweet oak with dusty lush pleasing tongue coating lingering tannins.

Full-bodied, ripe Cab Franc bursting with delicious fruit beautifully balanced by focused acidity, velvety texture, toasty oak, and sweet tannins. Terrific length. If there is a better New World Cab Franc, I want to hear about it. This is fantastic stuff. (2440 views) | | Tasted by Wink on 9/12/2011 & rated 92 points: My first bottle since I bought a six pack at the winery. Dark garnet-rimmed purple. Lovely nose of fig, plum, vanilla, and a whiff of alcohol. Juicy, ripe palate of bright dark fruit, spice, licorice, and a little alcohol. Excellent length. Refreshing acidity (one of its strongest points). Sweet tannins. Ordinarily, I am put off by noticeable alcohol. But this lovely wine has the fruit and structure to carry it off. (2058 views) | | Tasted by mkmast on 4/25/2011 & rated 92 points: This was my contribution to the table. Inky and dark in the glass, this wine clearly gives notice that it is mountain fruit. Complex and dense, it really showed well even though it is practically an infant. Still a little tannic, this could be great if I can keep my hands off of it long enough. This was more than one person’s favorite of the non-pinots. (2149 views) | | Tasted by rmcnees on 4/10/2011 & rated 93 points: Inky dark purple color, full bodied, dense and concentrated with complex forward, chewy black berry and black currant fruits, spice, with long lingering silky tannin finish. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Napa Valley Napa Valley Wineries and Wine (Napa Valley Vintners)Diamond MountainDiamond Mountain AVA: definition |
