Tasted by jrkennedy37 on 2/20/2020: It's a total baby. Quite light on the palate and fairly closed down at this stage. I honestly think another 8-10 years is necessary to fully experience what this can offer.

Very elegant now, slightly showing the wood influence but not in an obtrusive way. (1097 views)
Tasted by Mark V on 8/26/2018 & rated 91 points: Nice CF fruit! (1622 views)
Tasted by Coachron13 on 8/4/2018 & rated 90 points: Very similar to our prior bottle in 2015. Solid cab franc but no wow. Didn’t get the improvement we had hoped for from last time. (1502 views)
 Tasted by Robs847 on 6/17/2017: Father's Day 2017 (2244 views)
Tasted by MichielV on 9/2/2016 & rated 91 points: W grilled steak. Yummy wine with great body, nose and palate appearance. Good finish. This has life left as the tannins are still much present. It is not a cab but for this varietal pretty good and very unfrench version. (2507 views)
Tasted by ivsimler on 4/3/2016 & rated 92 points: Yes Please. Please send me more. Couldn't get into the recent dinner at Legal Harborside. The least you can do is send me more of this... :) (2127 views)
Tasted by ivsimler on 1/30/2016 & rated 92 points: Hell to the yeah. That is the reaction I remember from drinking it. Unfortunately it was maybe a month ago so I don't remember anything but that. Just drink it if you have it and have a favorite meal with it. (1892 views)
Tasted by davidandrose on 12/20/2015 & rated 93 points: Remaining 2/3 of a previously coravin'd bottle. Opened but not decanted, allowed to rest for 45 mins then followed over 2.5 hours. Forest floor on the nose, faint black and more prominent red fruit. Hints of spice, new leather and mature red fruit over a modestly solid (but not overpowering) tannic backbone. As note previously, this is more like a softer merlot blend than a pure CF and I'm really enjoying it. In a very good place at present. No more bottles, drink through 2018 with varying levels of air.  Tasted by davidandrose on 8/2/2015 & rated 93 points: Dark fruit, tar on the nose. Mouthfeel has a lushness to it that coats the palate much like a rich calicab, where I expect a CF to be more fruit-driven and freely-flowing. While I REALLY enjoy this wine, I find it to be more of a wonderfully rich proprietary blend than a pure expression of Cab Franc. That being said, I'd buy more if it were $50=< regardless of what it is. Yum. (1703 views)
Tasted by Coachron13 on 4/29/2015 & rated 90 points: A solid cab franc. A little fruit forward when first opened, mellowed out with air time. Will likely improve some with more bottle age, probably another 2-4 years worth in it. Lots of sediment. (1363 views)
Tasted by rougeamore on 9/29/2014 & rated 90 points: - Crimsom color - Decanted 2 hours. Lots of sediment. Only moderately aromatic with notes of black fruit. Much bigger on the palate with white pepper notes in addition to the blackberry and cassis flavors. Quite bright in acidity also. A little disappointed in the rather unidimensional flavor profile but a fairly long (unidimensional) finish. Nice wine but only 90 points. (1939 views)
Tasted by pvewino on 9/19/2014 & rated 92 points: Very good. This wine needs aeration or some time after opening. Good the second day as well. The cherry and spice come through in this full bodied wine. (1594 views)
Tasted by Brgrets on 7/15/2014 & rated 90 points: It was delicious. Not nearly as vegetal as other cab francs I've had, particularly those from the Loire. Still had that dried herbal character, with bell pepper notes. A little hint of vanilla from the time in oak. Surprisingly firm tannins. I got a copious amount of spice on the finish, and was subsequently unsurprised to discover that it was blended with a pretty decent amount of Malbec. The finish is really where this bad boy shines, as the slightest notes of coffee and cedar really balance out the more herbal characteristics of the wine. A very unique cab franc. Mountain fruit, so it lacks the decadence and deep fruit characteristics of wines sourced from the valley floor. (1958 views)
 Tasted by texag96 on 5/3/2014 & rated 90 points: Solid (2055 views)
 Tasted by oeno1820 on 9/9/2013 & rated 93 points: Delicious. (2754 views)
Tasted by Wine Gopher on 6/28/2013 & rated 92 points: Knowing I wouldn't have enough decanters or time on Friday, I opened this on Thursday night, drank one small glass, and then vacu-vinned it to let it slowly oxidize for a dinner on Friday night. If I were going to decant and drink this on the same day I'd probably give it 2 hours.

It was a big dinner with lots of wines so my notes aren't great. I ranked this slightly ahead of Continuum Novicium and Quilceda Creek Palengat but behind Proper Syrah and a grenache from Maison Bleue but that is more preference than anything as all were very good wines. It had a dark fruit profile, with chocolate and spice on the mid-palate followed by plush tannins on the medium finish. The acidity, which really cleansed the palate and made me want to come back for more, is what made it stand out relative to Novicium & QC. No hurry to drink this as the best years are still ahead of it. (2061 views)
Tasted by drasche on 5/1/2013 & rated 93 points: decanted and set for an hour. fabulous. (2270 views)
Tasted by davidandrose on 6/10/2012 & rated 94 points: Pours as dark as a Petite Sirah. Brooding color and rich rich aromas, dominated by white pepper, spice, oak. Medium+ in weight, this is smooth for such a young mountain wine, with the fruit balanced nicely against the hearty but approachable backbone. While the wine doesn't coat the palate like a lush CS or Merlot, the fruits stay with you for some time. Really nice, and should last for at least 5-7 years. (3172 views)
Tasted by drbdorfman on 6/8/2012 & rated 94 points: Leather and eucalyptus on the nose. Pepper, cassis, up front. Long finish. Amazing Cab Franc (2908 views)
Tasted by jdabrowski1027 on 2/29/2012: Delicious!! (2540 views)
Tasted by VinoJestes on 2/20/2012: Good, huge of course (2647 views)

Varietal character (Appellation America) | Wines & Vines article

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
