Tasted by ralaspech on 5/4/2024 & rated 93 points: Shared with fam during Christmas break--excellent earth and mineral accents to the beautiful Napa fruit. (71 views)
Tasted by castle.rob@gmail.com on 4/19/2024 & rated 98 points: Deep purple color. Blackberries, currant herbs on the nose. On the palate blackberries, cherry, pepper, currant a bit of tobacco and mint Gripping tannins, high acidity, dry wine. This is luscious and complex. We had so many great wines on my birthday it was hard to remember them all but I remember thinking I wish I was drinking this with a smaller group :) (73 views)
Tasted by bubbachumps on 2/17/2024 & rated 96 points: No detailed notes. This was in a perfect drinking window. (356 views)
Tasted by D.Callahan on 5/27/2023 & rated 93 points: We decanted this at the restaurant about 30 min. prior to the main course. The initial impression was of muted nose and palate. When we poured with the main course it was starting to open nicely. By the end of the bottle it was delicious with a complex nose and palate of cassis, dark cherry, spices and slight unsmoked tobacco nicely balanced with light acidity and structured mouthfeel. The finish was also delicious but only of medium length. (603 views)
Tasted by Esmags7 on 4/22/2023 & rated 98 points: I don’t know what else to say, this was simply incredible (568 views)
Tasted by ocwineo on 10/15/2021 & rated 94 points: Big wine that should still get better over time. Cassis, tabacco and ripe berries dominate. Structured and well balanced. (1504 views)
Tasted by KeithSurg on 9/13/2021 & rated 96 points: Classic Napa. Velvety and delicious. (1430 views)
Tasted by Red Sox Fan on 9/5/2021 & rated 95 points: Exceptional with a 90 minute decant, after another 90 minutes the fruit had evolved from deep blue to red and the silky texture had become a little grainy. Still a terrific wine, but next time I will go with a 30 minute decant…if I remember to read this note. (1344 views)
Tasted by ralaspech on 8/1/2021 & rated 95 points: Similar to my previous note--a beautiful bottle of wine! (1166 views)
Tasted by SMHalps on 6/12/2021 & rated 96 points: I found this in my cellar, looking for a bottle of the 2010 vintage. It wasn't even on my inventory. What a great surprise that turned out to be. Opened, but not decanted, and allowed to breathe for 45 minutes at a NYC Steakhouse. Long finish, full mouthfeel, great structure, notes of black fruits and spices on the palate. A treat! (1260 views)
Tasted by levinml on 5/22/2021 & rated 94 points: Very pleased with my first well aged single vineyard Hobbs (purchased from secondary market). See what the fuss is about. Big flavors, good depth and long finish without to much tannic bite. Still a long ways to go. (700 views)
Tasted by ralaspech on 4/4/2021 & rated 95 points: Nose of raspberry, blackberry, blueberry and spicy oak. Intense flavors of jazzy raspberry, black cherry, blackberry and blueberry. Hints of scorched earth, tobacco, graphite, and cedar. Acidity is modest. Tannins were mild. Velvety mouthfeel with a long finish. Big but nicely balanced, although perhaps a bit hot for my taste. A great bottle I enjoyed with Lisa and Claire at Easter. (678 views)
Tasted by jsmorris707 on 7/13/2020 & rated 96 points: Double decanted for 2 hrs, deep ruby, black cherry, med/firm tannins, long finish; outstanding, but needs more time, at least another couple of yrs (1305 views)
Tasted by mdvillaverde on 10/16/2019 & rated 96 points: 100% cab. 15.2% ABV. Similar to prior notes. On day 1, gave it 3 hours of air before drinking. Dark and concentrated, with mild licorice notes and a long finish. Even better on day 2, with well integrated acidity with a juicy, long finish that just keeps on going. Glad I won 6 bottles at auction. (1478 views)
Tasted by mdvillaverde on 8/27/2019 & rated 96 points: 100% cab. 15.2% ABV. I let it breathe for 1.5 hours then drank over 2 hours. Solid acidity with a juicy, long finish. Mineral, oak and mild licorice notes on top of rich and ripe fruit. If you're curious what tobacco notes on a cab are like, this is the wine to try. Slightly better on day 2 (a 95 on day 1 but a 96 on day 2). (1372 views)
Tasted by jcampano on 7/8/2019 & rated 94 points: Drank with braised beef, filet mignon and fingerling potatoes. Perfectly paired. Aromatics of blackberries, blueberries and oak. The wine opened up with cassis, plums and black cherries. Friends tastes notes of licorice and dark chocolate. Gorgeous medium-length finish. (1500 views)
Tasted by mdvillaverde on 5/12/2019 & rated 96 points: 100% cab. 15.2% ABV. I tried to let it breathe for an hour but it was ready to go almost immediately so drank over 3.5 hours. Dense, rich and ripe. Supple. A long, juicy finish. As good on day 2. (1488 views)
Tasted by chull on 12/25/2018 & rated 95 points: Opened about 4Pm and enjoyed over the next 6 hours with a beef filet sauteed onions, bearnaise and mushroom risotto. Dense purple full bodied cab, very smooth. Time to drink, I think. The last one. Great stuff. (1397 views)
Tasted by joshabramson on 9/21/2018 & rated 95 points: Huge fruit extraction, lovely texture, well integrated tannins, very nice! (1344 views)
Tasted by jcampano on 6/27/2018 & rated 95 points: From the moment I corked and decanted the wine, I knew it would be a great wine. Bouquet of dark fruit and cedar. On the palate, intense blackberry and plum flavors, licorice and oak. Long, smooth finish. Love Paul Hobbs’ Cabernet Sauvignon! (1487 views)
Tasted by skurtz on 5/17/2018 & rated 94 points: Decanted for CA Cult night at Garth’s. I was looking forward to this, a massive solid and perfectly balanced CA cab. One of my favorites for the evening. (1561 views)
Tasted by oldwines on 5/17/2018 & rated 95 points: "Cult Cali" Night at Garth's Apartment in Philly (Philadelphia, PA, USA): Another of Garth's contributions to our "Cult Cali" night at his apartment in Philly. This was opaque garnet-purple in color, very dense and saturated. Given its 15.2% ABV (which I view as excessive in Cab) it was surprisingly balanced and did not taste "hot". Oak, vanilla, blackberry, graphite and spice were the trademark flavors and smells. The mouth feel was big and chewy with tannins that were beginning to be integrated and a finish that was long. Great with the steak. I, like Garth, seem to consistently find I prefer the Beckstoffer Dr. Crane Vineyard bottlings from most producers over the Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard. It just seems a bit more elegant and less ripe and overdone to me. This was one of my favorites tonight. (2159 views)
Tasted by Agreenblatt on 4/15/2018 & rated 94 points: Very good. Would leave 1-2 hours to breathe fist. (1340 views)
Tasted by pakabear on 12/17/2017 & rated 96 points: WOTN for me, black cherry, blueberry, blackberry, amazing texture, extremely long finish with perfect balance. This is singing right out of the gate, but this will benefit from 2-3 hours in a decanter. (1551 views)
Tasted by webbaker on 12/11/2017 & rated 98 points: One of my favorite wines from one of my favorite producers. This wine is just hitting its sweet spot, still plenty of tannic bite. Very good fruit flavors, a bit heavier than more recent vintages from the same vineyard. My tastings of various 2009's has show this vintage may be stronger than anticipated. Wish I had more. Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
