Tasted by beatles on 8/20/2020 & rated 90 points: Showing some maturity, but still lots of primary fruit left. Happy wine with good depth, ripe fruit, good balance, good acidity. A food wine with some finesse.

Tasted by chatters on 6/19/2020: Coravin fun - new arrivals (My place, Kent Street): Another day, another bottle...actually this one has come at the end of a long day of work followed by some considerable time tasting some rather splendid wines, followed by the uncorking of an older bottle that showed a marked recalcitrance to open (the cork started slipping in to the bottle - thank you durand) but succumbed and was shared over lamb lollipops then this...Previous experiences have been unenjoyable and this is the last of my bottles so I decided to splash decant this rather aggressively - change is as good as a rest. I love the Fontanilles but the Ciaude has always played second fiddle. And, sadly, this conforms to my previous experience. Plummy, earthy, baked fruits, aniseed, tiny touch of black cherry...On the palate it's quite baked, dense in fact but without massive tannins, obviously warm climate though the alcohol is impressively handled, don't get me wrong, this is a good wine but it's not just as good as the Fontanilles. A lesson learnt. (1468 views)
Tasted by henrymale on 5/14/2020 & rated 92 points: Delicious, lots of depth, fruit but not too fruity, strong stuff. (1202 views)
Tasted by chatters on 4/9/2020: Slightly porty, meaty, savoury with herbaceous notes and stewed meat over a little plum and black cherry. A little black peppercorn on the nose as well. In the mouth the alcohol is a little high for the rest of the flavours making the wine make a bit disjointed for me. Similar, though more subdued, flavours and silky tannic burr on the mid-palate. This bottle probably a bit past its best...Boo...big disappointment after the showing of the 2008 Fontanilles (1340 views)
Tasted by Beaunedoc on 12/8/2019 & rated 94 points: At least I am consistant! I tasted it last in 2015. Once again I really enjoyed this wine. It is beautifully made, but if tasted blind I would have no idea where it was from. I never would have picked it as Minervois. No hint of southern rustic character, all about Burgundian finesse. Oh well, it was delicious. (1368 views)
Tasted by john_s on 8/12/2019 & rated 89 points: Nearly there. Colour still not showing much age. Needs some air. Very pleasing flavour, good balance. Sufficient acid for nice mouth feel. Still a trifle tannic, but the tannin is much smoother than a typical tannic Rhone Village. (920 views)
Tasted by john_s on 12/9/2018 & rated 89 points: A bit further down the track. Has improved. Still some tannin that I found crept up on me, so a bit more age is needed although can be drunk with pleasure now. Everything is in balance. Very enjoyable flavour. (1008 views)
Tasted by chatters on 6/21/2018: Upon first opening lovely sweet black cherry, a little tarragon, dusty spice and earth on the nose. Fresh, warm though, a little broad but quite elegant in a rustic way (if you can imagine such a thing). Generous and, well, quite lovely. (1373 views)
(1551 views)
Tasted by Pascal on 6/4/2018 & rated 89 points: Toujours aussi bon ! (1390 views)
Tasted by Pascal on 5/12/2018 & rated 90 points: Rondeur, longueur et fruit rouges. Un régal ! (1275 views)
Tasted by john_s on 12/11/2016 & rated 87 points: A year+ since last time. The voluptuous fruit has receded, the colour less purple and still dense. Nose opened a bit rubbery but next day in decanter very fine. Palate still tannic to my taste, but good to see some development over 15months. In the diary for late 2017 or a bit later. (1893 views)
Tasted by J. H. Glismann on 9/23/2016 & rated 93 points: - Brick color with fast forming legs. It's balanced with a full body. Linear texture with a long finish. (1717 views)
Tasted by wgmccallum on 11/4/2015 & rated 90 points: Clear deep ruby. Heath, spice, coffee, hints of berry on the nose. Driving balanced fruit on the palate, clear deep juice with a nice acid frame. Well constructed and a pleasure to drink with a boeuf bourgignon. 50 + 16 + 16 + 8. (2136 views)
Tasted by john_s on 8/3/2015 & rated 87 points: Still rather young. Colour is dense! Nose is opulent and intriguing, very nice. Still a fair bit of tannin. Well made and interesting, but I'd prefer a bit more maturity and roundness, and less purple colour. I have no idea how long this might take. The only other Minervois wine I have aged is the Dominique Laurent syrah which can't be labeled Minervois and it ages well but slowly, but the La Ciaude isn't syrah! It might take a Really Long Time. (2117 views)
Tasted by wgmccallum on 7/20/2015 & rated 90 points: Not a detailed note. Delicious earthy dark spicy nose, pure black fruit on the palate. Delicious. 50 + 16 + 15 + 9. (2136 views)
Tasted by Beaunedoc on 5/14/2015 & rated 94 points: A modern but very well crafted wine. My blind impression was a VERY well made syrah based wine from California, but the understatement of the wine made me question the origin. The wine was greatly enjoyed with ramp pesto (Food52). It is certainly ready for the table, but very fine tannins remain, so I recommend some pasta or carbo component. Meat if you choose. Happy to have a few more bottles in the cave. (1680 views)
Tasted by Saxman1984 on 2/15/2015: I liked this wine. Definitely made in a modern style, but the quality of the vines and terroir is evident. The wine has a nose of dark fruits with a touch of graphite. The wine also has a silky palate and is ready to drink now. (1506 views)
Tasted by unrelenting on 8/9/2014 & rated 88 points: chunky, burnt tannins with no finesse (1566 views)
Tasted by western on 1/22/2014 & rated 90 points: Lovely rich, velvety smooth wine full of ripe plum and small red fruits, spice, chocolate. Good mineral acidity with silky soft tannins. (1644 views)
Tasted by tooch on 7/4/2013 & rated 87 points: July 4th Wines (My Place): Sweet fruits, a touch of earth and some smoke on the nose. The palate was pretty good - a bit sweeter and richer than I'm accustomed to, but it had some nice acidity on the finish. Plum, cherries, and a touch of mocha. (2592 views)

Domaine Anne Gros & Jean-Paul Tollot Minervois La Ciaude

This is Gros' "great terroir" wine, one that benefits from a unique vein of limestone à la Burgundy. "La Ciaude" is a blend of Grenache, Syrah and Carignan—and the Carignan vines date back to 1914. Mineral energy combines effortlessly with an extraordinary rich and layered mouthfeel—this wine has volume and depth, and fantastic concentration without sacrificing balance. Vines face South, and as such get the full power of the sun, adding to the wine's saturated, sultry personality.
