Tasted by AllRed on 2/16/2024 & rated 90 points: Euchre night (R&D's): Apparently we needed yet another half bottle to extend the evening, but so it is when everyone is having a good time. Light youthful appearance with an abundance of stone fruit to go along with marmalade, honeysuckle, pineapple and mango qualities. The tropical qualities here are very nice. A lovely little Sauternes that is drinking well at this early stage. (R&D) (1432 views)
Tasted by Geoffy on 1/1/2024 & rated 91 points: Good ,but much better on day2 (1568 views)
Tasted by TheGreenFrog on 11/18/2023 & rated 91 points: From a half bottle. Decent balance, with some freshness. Nice delicate fruit but not very concentrated so comes across a bit sugary. (1579 views)
Tasted by aagrawal on 11/17/2023 & rated 90 points: From 375mL. Youthful golden; aromatic, floral, peach, apricot, orange blossom; palate is medium-full bodied, nice freshness throughout with some minerality, elegant throughout, orange blossom again, medium (13.5%) alcohol, a bit short through the midpalate; finish is medium length. Overall nice, youthful, aromatic, more floral than tropical, showing just a touch of alcohol but overall reasonably well balanced even if a bit short on length. 89, would likely age longer but I've drank all my bottles now. 89
Really nice, great character, relatively fresh, well balanced, love the florals. 90 (1627 views)
Tasted by Zoomin Z on 8/15/2023 & rated 93 points: Liquid sugar! A most generous apricot nose, yet not without hints of botrytis, the pit of the apricot and candle wax. A heavy, sweet body and long finish dried out with mild notes of bitter botrytis. Only light acidity…sweeter than most desserts… (2258 views)
Tasted by empire80 on 8/13/2023 & rated 92 points: Quite a deep amber colour given its relatively early age, but still very fresh. Very concentrated apricot, tangerine and marmalade flavours. Very complete and excellent value. (1917 views)
Tasted by noni15 on 7/29/2023 & rated 92 points: Ok, but not tropical touches like guava , passion fruit ….. (1910 views)
Tasted by Ernestas on 7/17/2023 & rated 90 points: Always a pleasure to sip a well chilled Sauternes at hot summer day. This bottle feels slightly oxidized with its medium amber colour. Made from Semillon based blend with 15% SB and 5% Muscadelle. Intense dense aroma of dried apples, dried yellow plums, honey, caramel, hint of prunes. Full body, creamy, clean and silky, viscous texture, dried apple, caramel and prunes medium intensity flavours, medium+ acidity, long finish. (2022 views)
Tasted by Rick & Ilsa on 7/1/2023 & rated 93 points: From split, served well chilled. Honey, mango, tropical citrus, botrytis spice and a buttery kind of finish. Smooth, sweet but not cloying, rich and velvety on the palate. Served with fruits splashed with sweet cream this was off the charts good. I have plenty of Sauterne, but it's hard to not want to buy more of this. Good stuff. (1534 views)
Tasted by WineKnurd on 5/18/2023 & rated 89 points: Kymanox pop-up tasting. Honey, apricot, orange marmalade, tangerine, and nectarine all noted by the gathering. Agreed it was very aromatic and a nice blend of honey, citrus, and stone fruits. Palate had a waxy quality to it, lower acidity, sweet and unctuous, but not cloying or grainy. Develops more stone fruit, some floral perfumed qualities, and nice lemon pith on finish as it opens up. Based on my previous notes, has either developed more of a honeyed quality or the 375's I had showed different. Not quite enough acidity to get us into that next level IMO, sticking with the B+ (89) evaluation. (2107 views)
Tasted by Frontal on 12/25/2022 & rated 92 points: Still bright and young. Nice valance but a bit on the sweet side. (2495 views)
Tasted by OmiyaDrinker on 12/16/2022 & rated 90 points: Fresh nose of pear, apricot, coconut, almost lemon marmalade rather than orange marmalade, jasmine?!, currants. Thick and viscous mouthfeel contrasts with a delicate flavor profile on the palate. You can taste the sugar but the flavors are almost savory with a salty air. Fascinating but very hard to judge at this stage. As I progress through a glass, a lack of acidity seems to become more apparent. (2531 views)
Tasted by empire80 on 8/27/2022 & rated 92 points: Concentrated tangerine and marmalade, still very fresh and will go a few years from here, but why wait? (2866 views)
Tasted by CellarBord on 3/31/2022 & rated 91 points: Starting to fill in complexity. However, still too sweet at this stage. I recommend drinking 2024-2032. (3527 views)
Tasted by Apollo5710 on 12/17/2021 & rated 94 points: A great showing! It was at its best in the opening glass, revealing notes of honey, stone fruits (apricot, peach), and coconut. Big and super rich, lush, and viscous, incredible mouth feel! It then tightened up a bit, and lost some expression. After 1-2 hours it re-emerged to reveal a more subtle and restrained package of honey, coconut, and a distinct note of creme brulee. We loved it, and will try to hold our remaining bottle for as long as we can. (2978 views)
Tasted by davidga75 on 11/7/2021: This had a glowing copper color and a nose of vinyl/plastic with undertones of baked apple. The palate was medium-full bodied with a smooth caramel and baked apple character. The finish was long and rich. This is definitely open for business and delicious, although it showed a surprising lack of acidity. It may develop further complexity with more age, but the acidity situation has me a little doubtful that it will make really old bones. (3063 views)
Tasted by Vandiner on 7/10/2021 & rated 91 points: Consumed over 3 days - delicious but not spectacular - needs time for complexities to develop. Have another bottle will wait a few 5 - 8 years. (3579 views)
Tasted by jdinkin1 on 5/22/2021 & rated 94 points: Sexy and delicious (3343 views)
Tasted by quanmeister on 4/16/2021 & rated 92 points: Aged nicely. Not overly sweet. Refreshing and light. (3347 views)
Tasted by phandel on 4/13/2021: Drank the 2011 next to the 2017 - the 17 was vibrant and fun, whereas the 11 had depth, complexity, and an unctuous quality. (3190 views)
Tasted by kanjimoti on 3/21/2021 & rated 88 points: From half bottle. After being open 15 minutes and subjected to intense swirling, this bottle of '11 Vedrines has some volatile acidity giving off an unpleasant smell of over-the-hill apple cider. Other aromas include clove and pear. For all the hype and high scores I find this fairly straightforward, lacking much interest on the nose. In the mouth the acidity is an absolute blast on the palate. Full-bodied in the mouth the wine completely covers the tongue with viscous wine but the acidity after a few seconds obliterates all that turning it sour and unpleasant. The acidity feels like small chards of glass in the mouth. I'd like to say this is on the tropical side with pineapple and mango but it's not! This wine is really struggling for an identity. To make things even less pleasant I get an aftertaste of orange marmalade(which I don't like).
Open an hour now and not much has changed. For being ten years old the Vedrines is fairly dark and progressed. I'm sure this would be better from 750. Try this with some of that excellent gouda Trader Joe's has with the windmill on the front of the packaging. If you have this in half bottle I would drink now through Autumn of 2022. The wine will be pretty tired by then. (3399 views)
Tasted by Livonietisr on 2/26/2021 & rated 93 points: Deep gold color. Aromatic nose of honey, raisins, orange peel, pineaple, petrol. Rich and dense with enough acidity to balance sweetness. (2974 views)
Tasted by Osiris021 on 1/30/2021 & rated 90 points: No formal notes. (2898 views)
Tasted by Motz on 1/17/2021 & rated 93 points: Split, paired with Stilton.

Deep gold to bronze.

A tour de force in all things honey and honeyed, along with stone fruit, dried tropical fruits (papaya and pineapple), and spice. Appealing mushroom and sous-bois elements underpin the fruit, when the wine is enjoyed at an optimal temperature, about 48 - 55 F (9 - 13 C). Off-the-chain with Stilton!

Excellent lift, quite fresh for its age, acid hanging tough, highly enjoyable finish. This half had no less than five years ahead of it, probably longer. (3905 views)
Tasted by batstongue on 9/11/2020 & rated 91 points: Rich deep yellow colour. Initially sampled from corovin at home and a bit tight and thin. Next day popped cork and let breath an hour. Very different wine with rich flavours of pineapple, butter scotch and hint of orange peel. Still has years to go but very delicious right now. (3197 views)

Bordeaux Wine Guide

Vins Bordeaux (Conseil Interprofessionnel du Vin de Bordeaux)

History of Bordeaux

History of 1855 Bordeaux Classification

"2009 is all about ripeness, with wines impressively packed with ripe fruit and high alcohol levels. They are showy, in-your-face, and full of pleasure. The 2010s have the fruit and alcohol levels of the 2009s, but with a compelling freshness on the finish that balances the fruit and provides a perfect sense of structure." - Ben Nelson

"2016 is a landmark vintage in certain spots of Bordeaux and it should be remembered as one of the most inspired campaigns of the last 40-50+ years." -Jon Rimmerman
"The quality of red Bordeaux in 2016 was universally lauded – although the response to the en primeur campaign was muted. Quantity was high too, with the equivalent of 770 million bottles of wine produced. An exceptionally dry summer with cool nights eventually, thanks to mid September rain, resulted in small, thick-skinned, ripe grapes, and the wines are marked by high tannin and acidity, with superb aromatic fragrance." - Jancis Robinson

"2017 was complicated, but there are some excellent wines. Expect plenty of freshness and drinkability from wines that will offer excellent value, and others that will rival 2016 in terms of ripeness and ageability. But they are likely to be the exception not the rule, making careful selection key." - Jane Anson

"In the past, a vintage such as 2022 may have been overripe, raisined and low in acidity but 2022 had a sneaky little reservoir in its back pocket - a near perfect marriage of cool/cold/rain the previous winter and the previous vintage that literally soaked the soils (a key to why 2022 is not 2003...or 1893)." - Jon Rimmerman

Sauternes

– Read more about the 1855 Sauternes Barsac Classification

Forty kilometres south of Bordeaux, Sauternes is an AOC that includes together 5 communes, including Barsac. For centuries, humans have been patiently learning to master this region's climate, soils and grape varieties. But Mother Nature did a good job laying the foundation. The Sauternes terroir is distinguished by a geological predisposition to gravel and pebbles that cover limestone streaked with veins of clay. In the communes of Fargues and Sauternes, a layer of hardpan (iron-oxide cemented sand) in which vines flourish can be found. The vineyards at the highest elevations and farthest from the river have the best terroirs and produce the majority of the Crus Classés, including the monumental Château Yquem.Sauternes wines are made from Sémillon (80% of vines planted) and Sauvignon (15%) grapes. A bit of Muscadelle occasionally is used to give the wines an untamed touch. Sauternes have an "aged gold" colour that is denser and darker than other dessert wines. When they age, they develop a stunning amber colour. The nose has aromas of flowers and fruit that melt together to create a bouquet of remarkable complexity and balance. The primary aromas include almond, quince, mango, pineapple, stewed peach, dried apricot and passion fruit. There are also floral notes, with touches of linden, acacia, mimosa and honeysuckle. And as is typical with Sémillon, there are also notes of beeswax, almond and hazelnut. In the mouth, Sauternes wines have a powerful style that is viscous but extremely elegant. Its strong sweetness is captivating. Finally, its aromatic finish is something that simply must be experienced.

2013 Vintage Notes:
"the extractive ratios in th[is] year are in the phenomenal range and there's ripeness/botrytis to cover two treks around the globe [...] so appealing is the immediacy of the wines. Many can be enjoyed now for their sheer joy and delicious nature. [Some] should also age" - Jon Rimmerman

2014 Vintage Notes:
"a golden vintage for Sauternes. It may not have the depth or weight of 2010, but it has some of the richness. What has set 2014 apart is the intense lime and lemon flavors that cut into any overblown cloying character and allow both the fruit and the honeyed noble rot to sing." - Wine Enthusiast
