Tasted by Bordeaux_Jon on 4/4/2024 & rated 93 points: For my taste, this has come around and was quite enjoyable right away. This Barolo successfully combines the aromatic intensity of Burgundy with the long caressing finish from Nebbiolo’s greater tannic structure. The nose shows the typical red fruit, roses, and tar notes, with good richness but not the bulky oakiness of some modernists. I could see more aging but no harm to open now. (316 views)
Tasted by KarlO_CC on 1/30/2022 & rated 91 points: Nice. Next bottle In 2027. Guess it will on top In 10. (1862 views)
Tasted by pjbeans on 6/26/2021 & rated 91 points: Big, dark, rich Barolo. Decanted around an hour and needed more time. Started out very tight and opened up nicely over a couple hours. Great Barolo given the warm vintage. Hold for a couple years or give a 2 hour decant (2091 views)
Tasted by Redback on 8/15/2020: An hour decant. Probably needed more. Great aroma, fine acidity and nice tannins. Very enjoyable. (2522 views)
Tasted by SoundinBetween on 7/26/2020: Purchased from retail, presumably bought on release.. the poor storage did this no favors, not a good bottle. Pale ruby with no browning at the rim. Nose: roasted red florals, dried mint, hay. (2526 views)
Tasted by GFischmann on 6/4/2020 & rated 91 points: Well balanced tannins and acidity. Good balance of oak and tertiary flavors with leather and moist earth (2669 views)
Tasted by asheio on 3/26/2020 & rated 91 points: Day 2 - Quite aromatic. Tar, roses, licorice. Quite high acidity, solid tannins. On the rustic side. (2039 views)
Tasted by BillyT on 5/28/2018 & rated 91 points: Wine needed about 1-11/2 hour decant. Beautiful balance of fruit, tannins and acidity. Not as complex as other Barolo I have had yet it was complex with tobacco, smoke, must, mushroom, and leather much like many good Burgundies. Fresh dark fruit. Still good life in this wine. (3706 views)
Tasted by Blake Brown on 3/14/2018: 2008 CAVALLOTTO BRICCO BOSCHIS BAROLO- Blind: initially some veggie character existed in the aromatics, but soon and gratefully it blew off and good things came into fruition; it gave liquorice, tobacco and green tea along with sweet and ripe dark cherry fruit; it finished on the dry side (2379 views)
Tasted by oboeurenius on 3/10/2018 & rated 88 points: Palate with smoke, tobacco, tar and te in the nose. Fresh acidity with firm dry tannins. Fruity long aftertaste. (2974 views)
Tasted by Vini Ciclismo on 2/16/2018 & rated 91 points: Rich red colour, not much tawny to be seen.
Blueberry fragrance, violets, black tea, plump ripe black cherries and plums.
Medium weight, fleshy, quite powerful but quite smooth also. Still youthful ripe fruits, not all that much development, blueberry and black cherry, gentle dark spice, all very well integrated. Well structured, quite refined, a smooth long finish, with very fine and quite abundant tannins. Delicious. (2962 views)
Tasted by ThalesGaspar on 4/23/2017 & rated 90 points: Barolo's are unpredictable wines, and this time the surprise was a good one. After 30 min of air this wine became an interesting one, specially on the palate. Another good thing is that this one has enough body to pair with food, but is elegant enough to be drank by itself. (3645 views)
Tasted by drwine2001 on 9/11/2016: Clear ruby without fading. Anise as before but more low pitched cherry and mint. Medium body, perhaps even a tad full for Nebbiolo, savory mix of fruit, herbs, and acidity, not terribly tannic. This has much more poise and complexity than one expects in an 8 year old Barolo. I love the way this is drinking now. It cheapens things to say that it is a wonderful everyday drinking wine, but you can't do much better than this for an accessible basic cuvée that is so satisfying. (3626 views)
Tasted by MAXIMUM SATISFACTION on 8/27/2016 & rated 93 points: Decanted for 3 hours. Supper expressive nose of cherry liqueur, leather, and dried herbs. Palate is somewhat open but mostly dominated by acid and tart cherry. Still some stewed meat, leather, sweet raspberry, and plum come through. Finish is very mouth drying and obviously needs 5-10 years. (3035 views)
Tasted by TrueLoker on 3/26/2016 & rated 91 points: Caramel, dry fruits & black pepper.
Multifaceted & rich.
Traditional Nebbiolo style!
A little younger. 91+ keep (3204 views)
Tasted by drwine2001 on 2/21/2016: Dull red. Aromatics dominated by earth and tobacco. Medium bodied, beautifully mouth filling. Morello cherries coated by a fine dusting of soil, tobacco leaf, superb late arriving acidity, and moderate tannin. I loved this bottle and think the wine is just at an early phase of maturity and enjoyment which should hold for at least 6 to 8 more years. (3554 views)
Tasted by Sixchips600 on 2/8/2016 & rated 92 points: Had this with the 2008 Vignolo which was richer and darker. This wine had bright red fruits, spice, cinnamon. Firm tannins without being as austere as the Vignolo. Tart acidity but nice elegance. Rated at 3 hours open when it was at its best. A few more years would be just right. (2649 views)
Tasted by Oysteinfb on 9/9/2015 & rated 90 points: Dekantert og luftet i vid karaffel. Lite bunnfall. (3037 views)
Tasted by Mivvy on 2/15/2015: I have heard many of the 2008's are open still. This was shut down pretty hard even after 3 days. Lots of structure (obviously) and showed glimpses of fruit and licorice on the finish. (3763 views)
Tasted by MRichman on 11/15/2014: Petaluma wine group - Piedmonte at Franks: Light with dark tar. Long black very dry finish with black tacky acid. Very young with some very pretty dried flower notes. My #3 of the night. (3648 views)
Tasted by Normann on 11/7/2014 & rated 90 points: Strong and dense fruit, nose of leather and tobacco. Deep red in color, long taste. After a few hours it got a lovely sweetness of fruit. Have certain good of a few years in a cellar. (3417 views)
Tasted by drwine2001 on 10/16/2014: Nebbiolo from Piemonte and Alto Piemonte (Arlequin Wine Merchant, San Francisco): Medium center. Underripe aromatics. Lean and green with high acidity and thankfully, some texture to buffer this. Still, nowhere near worth the price and my least favorite wine poured tonight. I strongly suspect this was an off bottle since it showed nothing like the bottle I had this summer. (4064 views)
Tasted by FjordogFjell on 9/5/2014 & rated 89 points: Generøs, åpen og rett frem god barolo. Svak aceton, ellers bare god. (1301 views)
Tasted by drwine2001 on 8/2/2014: Medium ruby. Beautiful Nebbiolo nose of rose and herbs. Big wine for Barolo but excellent definition and fine black fruit. Substantial tannin which relaxed over a couple of hours. (3541 views)
Tasted by Henrik_christopher on 7/13/2014: Baroloen er 08, noe etiketten ikke viser.

Fikk 6 timer i karaffel før konsum. (2755 views)

Nebbiolo

Nebbiolo is a red grape indigenous to the Piedmont region of Italy in the Northwest. The grape can also be found in other parts of the world, though they are not as respected.

Nebbiolo is often considered the "king of red wines," as it is the grape of the famed wines of Barolo DOCG, Barbaresco DOCG, and Roero DOCG. It is known for high tannins and acidity, but with a distinct finesse. When grown on clay, Nebbiolo can be very powerful, tannic, and require long aging periods to reach its full potential. When grown on sand, the grape exhibits a more approachable body with more elegant fruit and less tannins, but still has high aging potential.

"Nebbiolo" is named for the Italian word, "nebbia", which means "fog", in Italian and rightfully so since there is generally a lot of fog in the foothills of Piedmont during harvest.

Nebbiolo is a late-ripening variety that does best in a continental climate that boasts moderate summers and long autumns. In Piedmont, Nebbiolo is normally harvested in October.

Barolo

Regional History:
The wines of Piedmont are noted as far back as Pliny's Natural History. Due to geographic and political isolation, Piedmont was without a natural port for most of its history, which made exportation treacherous and expensive. This left the Piedmontese with little incentive to expand production. Sixteenth-century records show a mere 14% of the Bassa Langa under vine -- most of that low-lying and farmed polyculturally. In the nineteenth century the Marchesa Falletti, a frenchwoman by birth, brought eonologist Louis Oudart from Champagne to create the first dry wines in Piemonte. Along with work in experimental vineyards at Castello Grinzane conducted by Camilo Cavour -- later Conte di Cavour, leader of the Risorgimento and first Prime Minister of Italy -- this was the birth of modern wine in the Piedmont. At the heart of the region and her reputation are Alba and the Langhe Hills. This series of weathered outcroppings south of the Tanaro River is of maritime origin and composed mainly of limestone, sand and clay, known as terra bianca. In these soils -located mainly around the towns of Barolo and Barbaresco -- the ancient allobrogica, now Nebbiolo, achieves its renowned fineness and power.
