Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 86.6 pts. and median of 88 pts. in 8 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by kmicho on 9/27/2015 & rated 86 points: A decent wine for $11. Tests a bit like a Malbec, even though it's not. Very earthy. Damp wood is what I taste. Maybe a bit of the ethanol another person noted, but not strong in this bottle. Very tart berries. (1198 views)
Tasted by ryanmhale on 3/17/2013 & rated 89 points: - Crimsom color with medium forming legs and aromas of ethanol. It's somewhat balanced and has flavours of prune with a medium body. Fleshy texture with a medium finish. (1906 views)
Tasted by apardoe on 2/28/2013 & rated 88 points: Very fruity. There's a little tannin, a little clove, but it's overwhelmingly jammy. (2085 views)
Tasted by DeLuz on 12/15/2012 & rated 78 points: Had a glass with lunch today.
Sounded like an interesting blend and I have heard good things about Lake County. Mostly tasted acid and not much else. Surprised to read others saying it is fruity. Maybe The bottle had been opened for too long. (2144 views)
Tasted by nlassow on 12/6/2012: Far too fruity. We had a tough time finishing the bottle. (2240 views)
Tasted by Jack O'Brien on 11/28/2012: Raspberry and red currant fruit with a delicate touch of herbal mint or eucalyptus. Tiny bit of clove as well. All found on the palate but it finishes with an unsettling taste of alcohol which throws this wine off. (1290 views)
Tasted by Ben Christiansen on 10/22/2012: Its ok at $9.99 but maybe not much more. (672 views)

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

California

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson

North Coast

The North Coast American Viticultural Area (AVA) in California, covering more than three million acres, includes Napa, Sonoma, Mendocino and Lake counties, and portions of Marin and Solano counties. (see The Wine Institute for more information)
