| Community Tasting Notes (average 91.3 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 66 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by pdadams66 on 2/3/2024 & rated 91 points: Evolving very well. Excellent at 14 years old. Will go for a few more years no problem. (222 views) | | Tasted by Bluethunder on 11/10/2023 & rated 91 points: Seavey wines need aging to come into their own. Drinking well now with dark fruit, tobacco, spice, cassis with earthy undertones. Showing slight age on the outer rim. (407 views) | | Tasted by pdadams66 on 6/11/2023 & rated 91 points: Deep dark center, red rim with a hint of age. Blackcurrants, blackcurrant leaves, hint of caramel, sappy, alcohol. Smooth, complex, blackcurrants and ripe plums, oak well integrated, a little smokey, moderate tannins and acidity, fantastic finish. In a great place, good fruit and structure, drinking well now but will keep going for another 5 years. (434 views) | | Tasted by drrobvino on 2/19/2023 & rated 92 points: Penultimate of 6 bottles, last consumed this wine about 2 yrs ago. Aging gracefully, this wine was brilliant on the first day, but slightly less interesting on the 2nd day...to be expected, I would say. Lovely black and blue fruits, cassis, pencil lead, and espresso grounds. Beautiful acidity and resolving tannins, the wine is complex and just right. Drink through 2024 or so. (526 views) | | Tasted by EFrohmader on 4/3/2022 & rated 92 points: Less barnyard and liked more than I remembered from my prior note. It doesn't need a decant other than to get it off the sediment. (570 views) | | Tasted by EFrohmader on 2/26/2022 & rated 91 points: Tasted in a vertical with the 2011 and 2012. Cassis, plum, barnyard, soil, tobacco, charcoal. Medium-full body. Medium-long finish. Tannins are resolved. Drink now or in the next 1-3 years. (464 views) | | Tasted by drrobvino on 3/14/2021 & rated 92 points: 3rd of 5 bottles, delicious. Last tasted 1.5 yrs ago. Just lovely plum fruit, cassis, pencil lead, espresso grounds, black cherry and anise. Perfectly gritty tannins, beautifully moderated acidity. Drink now through 2025+. (1036 views) | | Tasted by pdadams66 on 8/22/2020 & rated 91 points: As before, but great blackcurrant fruit. Drinking well now, but a good 5 years life ahead. (1020 views) | | Tasted by pdadams66 on 5/29/2020 & rated 91 points: Deep dark center, dark red rim with some modest signs of age. Rich nose of sweet pipe tobacco, plums, black raspberries, and green peppers, touch of barnyard, tapenade and some ash. Smooth and complex, a little primary, black cherries and plums, toasted oak, good tannin and acidity, great length of red fruits with supporting oak. Excellent, but will be better in a couple of years. (1019 views) | | Tasted by JamesSF on 3/17/2020: $105 Value. Drink through 2025 (3/17/20). (1135 views) | | Tasted by drmarc61 on 3/13/2020 & rated 92 points: I am going to wait at least three years before cracking open another bottle. It is an amazing wine for the price with a good two hour decant. In 3-5 years when the tannin has smoothed out, this will be simply a outstanding price to quality wine. (1189 views) | | Tasted by CWilliam on 11/4/2019: 92-93 range.
Did not take notes. This has aged extremely well. Structure of Bordeaux with CA fruit. Some tobacco and cedar were noticeable, but the fruit was still fresh. Sadly my last bottle from this vintage. (1246 views) | | Tasted by Wineist05 on 10/20/2019 & rated 89 points: Dark garnet. Earth and savory dominant. Initially not much fruit. Took 2-3 hours of double decant to start opening. Then dark blackberry, cherry fruit mostly overpowered by deep earth. A general lack of freshness. Acidity lower than would have expected. Perhaps more time needed on this but not sure how long it will last as the tannins were balanced and integrated. (1140 views) | | Tasted by drrobvino on 10/13/2019 & rated 92 points: 2nd of 5 bottles. Took this bottle to the beach house and shared w/friends over dinner and grilled ribeyes. Deeply fragrant on the nose, showing off plum, black currant, and black cherry fruit. Flavors echo from the nose, and are lifted by notes of some espresso grounds and light black pepper. The wine is full bodied, with perfectly moderated acidity, lending to its long and captivating finish. Delicious now, drink through 2026+. (1012 views) | | Tasted by wineotim on 7/15/2019 & rated 92 points: Three years since my first bottle. This wine immediately showed more complexity on the nose and palate. Earthy aromas and flavors, cassis, cocoa, and hints of coffee. Shows elegance, sophistication, and poise. But, I couldn't stop thinking I should have waited another year on this. (1599 views) | | Tasted by drmarc61 on 4/27/2019 & rated 92 points: Beautiful wine for the price! (1349 views) | | Tasted by jimyeni on 4/7/2019 & rated 89 points: Napa April 2019; 4/6/2019-4/9/2019 (Napa, CA): Earthy, savory, some cherry fruit, attempt to be more approachable, really not our thing. (1421 views) | | Tasted by webbaker on 4/5/2019 & rated 91 points: Typical Seavey taste profile leaning towards the aromatic side. Tannins nicely integrated, but not a big fruit wine. BDX drinkers will enjoy the style. (1041 views) | | Tasted by drrobvino on 3/17/2018 & rated 92 points: Delicious, maturing Napa Cabernet. No formal TN. (1821 views) | | Tasted by hki on 12/18/2017 & rated 92 points: A little light nose but very long aftertaste (1933 views) | | Tasted by tantotinto on 12/13/2017 & rated 91 points: Still excellent. (1655 views) | | Tasted by webbaker on 10/22/2017 & rated 91 points: Seavey is notoriously tannic, I think 7 years is about right for caravina. As typical, tending towards aromatics and tannins. (2105 views) | | Tasted by JamesSF on 7/22/2017: Give away (2046 views) | | Tasted by tantotinto on 5/31/2017 & rated 91 points: This is a soft, smooth wine at this point. Rich cherry with a little spice and cedar. Very good and my guess is that there will be little improvement from here. Drink now. (1603 views) | | Tasted by Trader79 on 11/25/2016 & rated 92 points: Well worth the $50 I paid. Balanced wine with sweet tannins and a medium finish. I didn't think this needed much air time, 30 mins tops IMO. Very good! (1857 views) | | Only displaying the 25 most recent notes - click to see all notes for this wine... |

| Seavey Vineyard Producer websiteCabernet SauvignonCabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.
Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet SauvignonUSAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Napa Valley Napa Valley Wineries and Wine (Napa Valley Vintners)Napa ValleySt. Helena |
