| Community Tasting Notes (average 84.3 pts. and median of 85 pts. in 12 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by TwistedArmadillo on 6/17/2017 & rated 91 points: An 83 for this wine is just too low. I was given this wine and it has been sitting in the cellar for some years. As I read the other reviews I was a bit worried that this wine was going to be Kool-Aid. It is actually a lovely wine, and a great value at the price point - probably due to it being aged for some years in the cellar. Nose: smoke, pencil savings, dark stone fruit, cassis, a bit of 'green/herbal'. Legs: medium. Palate: dark stone fruit, cassis, a bit of graphite. Finish: a bit lite, but it does linger nicely. I think the difference in the 3+ years since last tasting note is significant. It is drinking nicely now, but can age a few more years without a loosing its structure. The problem with these lower priced wines is that they are bought and drank to quickly - they need time to mature a bit. For most, a few extra years in the bottle makes all the difference. This is a wine that can be bought by the case and stored several years if you have the room - the end result will be worth it. The legs are Fast. It smells like Blackberry, and Raspberry. It tastes like Blackberry, Blueberry, and Black currant (cassis). The body is Medium/Full. The wine has Juicy texture. The wine finishes Short. On the palate, it's light-bodied, and smooth with straight-forward, but enjoyable cherry, black currant flavors. (4008 views) | | Tasted by jvanasco on 2/12/2013 & rated 85 points: it was worth 10.99 , i wouldn't pay more than $13 for this though. (3225 views) |

Founded in 1973, Chateau St Jean has long been recognized as a leader in Sonoma County Vineyard Designated wines. Winemaker Margo Van Staaveren uses her more than 35 years of vineyard and winemaking expertise with Chateau St Jean to highlight the best of each vineyard in every wine. MerlotMerlot is a dark blue–colored wine grape variety, that is used as both a blending grape and for varietal wines. The name Merlot is thought to be a diminutive of merle, the French name for the blackbird, probably a reference to the color of the grape. Its softness and "fleshiness", combined with its earlier ripening, makes Merlot a popular grape for blending with the sterner, later-ripening Cabernet Sauvignon, which tends to be higher in tannin.USAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson CaliforniaNapa Valley.http://www.stagecoachvineyard.com/vineyards/our_vineyards.php Santa Ynez.http://www.everyvine.com/org/Camp_Four/vineyard/Camp_Four/ |
