Community Tasting Notes (average 90.2 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 24 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by acyso on 6/19/2022 & rated 88 points: "Día de los Daddys" (Chicago, IL): Nice to visit this after a long while; I think this is starting to fade away and begin a slow descent. The fruit is fading and the wine feels like the acidity is a bit too prominent at this point. Thinning out and not quite as enjoyable as I remember it being a few years ago (we drank a lot of this when it was easy to get). I guess my note 2.5 years ago was pretty spot on. Drink up.  Tasted by acyso on 11/2/2019 & rated 90 points: Solid drinking white Burgundy. Not too reductive, but a touch of salinity and nice fresh acids. This bottle seems to have started to pick up a little bit of maturity as well, as the fruit profile seems to have started rounding out (not premox though). I doubt this has much more gas to travel further, so drink up. (2216 views)
Tasted by acyso on 3/25/2019 & rated 90 points: Opened this to have a glass while I wrote up some Hermitage notes. It's the kind of lazy drinking white Burgundy that I love. A splash of reduction at first, but there are some mild white flowers and some tart fruit on the nose, followed by a really flinty and mineral-inflected palate. Plenty of tart fruit to give this cut. A nice little hint of almonds on the finish. Not complex but definitely tasty and refreshing. (2562 views)
Tasted by acyso on 11/28/2018 & rated 90 points: A few at S.K.Y. (Chicago, IL): The nose here is lean, with a slight hint of matchstick and some nice pear aromas. The palate though is a lot broader and rounder than the bottle last week -- probably more a function of me than of the wine, to be honest. Zippy acids with some nice rounded fruit on the palate. Not the most complex but fairly delicious. For my money, I think the Remilly and Dents are where to go. (2811 views)
Tasted by acyso on 11/19/2018 & rated 90 points: More Bebu (Chicago, IL): Not much reduction here tonight. Lovely tart white fruits, and I particularly love the pineapple tone here. The palate isn't as dense and concentrated as the better St. Aubin sites, but there's still plenty to love here. To me, more than ready to enjoy now, but a few years will help to round off any remaining sharp edges. (2957 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 9/22/2018 & rated 88 points: Spring flowers, lemon peel and lemon cake aromas. Similar flavors with good weight and balance and bright energy on the finish. Slightly tart on its own, this really shines with food. (1963 views)
Tasted by AudunG on 6/24/2017 & rated 89 points: From a magnum. Delicious, with classy and elegant Puligny like aromas and some new oak. Soft, creamy and elegant in the mouth. (2305 views)
Tasted by ashegedyn on 10/17/2016: So a nice refreshing white Burgundy. Very linear with the acid playing with the mineral spine. Nor really resolver after 5 years Needs much more time. But I appreciate the interplay between the mineral aspects, the acid, and fruit. More peach driven on the palate at this point but it will resolve over time. Very engaging. (2295 views)
Tasted by pbaek on 10/16/2016: Great purity of fruit and cut, this is an excellent Saint-Aubin with citrus notes and schiste in a very refined and elegant style. Delicious now. (2257 views)
Tasted by JonathanP on 6/12/2016 & rated 91 points: Drunk from a 375 bottle at Rockpool Bar and Grill. Great from the outset. White orchard fruits, lemon zest and floral elements are wrapped up in quite a soft and textural, almost creamy package. Ample acidity keeps if focused without any sharp edges. Quite a refined Saint Aubin. (2511 views)
Tasted by Rezy13 on 3/6/2015 & rated 92 points: Old World Blind Tasting Group $40+ (Bin 75): Yellow green; lemon, chives, chalk, a little more subtle; vanilla cream, lime, lemon, strong mineral, nice fat, honeydew; very good. (3586 views)
Tasted by Rezy13 on 2/3/2015 & rated 92 points: Steely greenish yellow; fresh nose with citrus, mineral and very clean; palate shows richness and power with great focus, mineral, perfectly measured oak, green and bright yellow fruit, liquid mineral and a dash of butter; awesome. (2275 views)
Tasted by Rak on 5/28/2014: 2011 Hubert Lamy Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Les Frionnes

OMG! Last night, after family safely tucked up in bed, I listened to the audio commentary track on Bunuel's Tristana Bluray. Impulsively, uncorked a half bottle of this wine. It immediately made me smile, unlike the slightly dull commentary even though it boasted Catherine Deneuve. Bone dry freshness, ripe green apples, lemon zest, pears all delicious but the best was yet to come; the most appealing wet stones mouthfeel with disarming salinity. Will order more! ☺️ (17/20) (2821 views)
Tasted by ashegedyn on 5/6/2014: Very subtle nose - you need to re calibrate when you approach this wine. Subtle honeysuckle and chalk aromas. Light intensity. The flavors though, are intense mineral with citrus hints. A long mineral finish. Very elegant and subtle. (2296 views)
Tasted by gsquireh on 5/2/2014 & rated 92 points: Quite amazing, what a value, this ripe spring fruit, pear pulp and sweet wheat and gardenia combine with complex creamy, yet delineated minerality that fills the mouth with rich simplicity. (2240 views)
Tasted by cybergod on 4/6/2014: Slightly softer and a with a touch less depth than a bottle of En Remilly that was also opened recently, but still an excellent wine. Classic Lamy touch of reduction, mineral and lemon-line, but with a rounder finish than the En Remilly. Going to leave the rest of my bottles in the cellar for a couple more years. (1838 views)
Tasted by Outplaying on 10/1/2013: Pretty good intensity with tart green apple and citrus fruit, slight popcorn note, some saline and great acidity. Enjoyed it - Will reload on this one. (1990 views)
Tasted by sebastienjm on 9/12/2013 & rated 91 points: Pas pris de notes... (1831 views)
Tasted by lator on 6/20/2013 & rated 90 points: No formal notes. 90-91 points. (1747 views)
Tasted by jrobs7777 on 5/22/2013: Wines of Hubert Lamy (Bistro 7 (7 N. 3rd St., Philadelphia)): Fresh with good body and acidity. Excellent QPR. Pale color. Clean round fruit. Nothing is out of place here. (2007 views)
Tasted by vespasian on 11/5/2012 & rated 90 points: Mineral, lemon, hints of satsuma peel. Quite fresh/subtle; lovely balance. Lots of flavour with good length. Lovely for now and the next 3-5 years. 90+ (1385 views)

Burgundy

Les vins de Bourgogne (Bureau interprofessionnel des vins de Bourgogne) (and in English)

Burgundy - The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Cote d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Cote de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Cote de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Cote d'Or. Also included by some are the regions of Chablis and Auxerrois, farther north.

# 2013 Vintage Notes:
* "2013 is a vintage that 20 years ago would have been a disaster." - Will Lyons
* "low yields and highly variable reds, much better whites." - Bill Nanson
* "Virtually all wines were chaptalised, with a bit of sugar added before fermentation to increase the final alcohol level." - Jancis Robinson

# 2014 Vintage Notes:
"We have not had such splendid harvest weather for many years. This will ensure high quality (fragrant, classy and succulent are words already being used) across the board, up and down the hierarchy and well as consistently from south to north geographically apart from those vineyards ravaged by the hail at the end of June." - Clive Coates

# 2015 Vintage Notes:
"Low yields and warm weather allowed for ample ripeness, small berries and an early harvest. Quality is looking extremely fine, with some people whispering comparisons with the outstanding 2005 vintage. Acid levels in individual wines may be crucial." - Jancis Robinson

# 2017 Vintage Notes:
"Chablis suffered greatly from frost in 2017, resulting in very reduced volumes. As ever, the irony seems to be that what remains is very good quality, as it is in the Côte d’Or. Cooler nights across the region have resulted in higher-than-usual acidity, with good conditions throughout the harvest season allowing for ripe, healthy fruit." - Jancis Robinson

# 2018 Vintage Notes:
"The most successful region for red Burgundy in 2018 was the Côte de Beaune. The weather was ideal in this area, with just enough sunlight and rain to produce perfectly balanced wines naturally." - Vinfolio
