Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 91.3 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 5 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Vintomas on 7/24/2018 & rated 91 points: Medium golden colour. Nose with burnt butter, caramel, candied sugar, some dried apricot and hints of smoke. Sweet (but not intensely so), fine concentration of fruit with citrus and apricot compote, botrytis notes, high acidity that provides balance, and some minerality. Aftertaste with apricot, some green apple, and fresh acidity. Still youngish on the palate, 91 pts.

The nose of this wine deviates from the old rule of thumb, that Rieslaner is quite similar to Riesling. On the palate, it is closer to Riesling. (1146 views)
Tasted by dream on 5/30/2018 & rated 93 points: This drank so beautifully last night. Seemingly perfectly aged with medium-sweetness and gorgeous succulent acidity. Finishes with a lovely mineral tang and age has softened this into a complex wine that just floats over the tongue. Still palate-staining intensity that hangs on the tongue long after the wine has passed. Really superb. (963 views)
Tasted by bristol411 on 10/17/2010 & rated 91 points: citrus, with good acidity, not too sweet. (2209 views)
Tasted by Eric on 8/13/2006: Seattle Tasting Group does California Cabernet (Sammamish, WA): AP# 19. Awesome, awesome wine! Stinky mineral. This has the cut and acidity of a top Eiswein, excellent! (3993 views)
Tasted by CharlesM on 2/7/2006 & rated 90 points: Light gold, aromas of pineapple and apricot. The palate impression was one of great sweetness, with the fruit characters coming through strongly. The sweetness was mildly cloying, as the acidity seemed to be lacking, so the wine tasted out of balance. I drank the half bottle over the evening and it remained relatively two dimensional. Would merit a higher rating with greater structure and balance, but nonetheless enjoyable. (3273 views)

#2014 Vintage Notes:
2014 Vintage Report by Terry Theise
2014 Vintage Report by Wine Spectator
"My gut still tells me the Saar (and to some extent) the Ruwer are better overall in 2014 than the more storied areas of the Mosel proper, but those that spent the requisite time living in their middle-Mosel vineyards made some of the most electric and "feathery" Riesling in a long time (maybe the finest in 20 years - yes, it's true!)" - Jon Rimmerman (Of course only a very short historical memory would call the Saar and Ruwer less 'storied' than the middle Mosel - jht)
