Tasted by Gerhard3 on 5/19/2024: Much better than my prejudice ;) Round, but with enough fresh acidity and enough complexity and evolution to be interesting. (23 views)
3 excellents vins! (349 views)
Tasted by bobbylion on 3/14/2020 & rated 91 points: PnP from coravined bottle and it really a solid 91. I thought these would be very bordeaux-like, but they aren't. More like my Mormoretto by Frescobaldi. Sweeter and less leather/wood. Anyway, very nice. (1643 views)
Tasted by bobbylion on 3/12/2020 & rated 91 points: Better PnP than 2 hrs later in decanter, so, yes, drink up. Must it be now - probably not. Still good tannins and fruit present. Enjoyable, but just... (1605 views)
Tasted by hargy on 12/10/2018 & rated 88 points: still alive if only just - the fruit is starting to stew so drink soon (2098 views)
(2431 views)
Tasted by BigGDaddy on 10/27/2018 & rated 88 points: This seems to be approaching the other side. It has come together and I do not believe anyimprovement is on the horizon; very smooth, fading fruit, earthy nose. I wanted to try well-aged Italian wine, but for $85 I’d say it was about $40 too much. I did a slow ox; and the longer it sits in my glass the better it becomes. Just dont want to wait too long and have it spoil in my glass. It’s holding up after 4 hours but not in a decanter. I have one more bottle and will update with a longer prep. (2036 views)
Tasted by willfab60 on 9/2/2017 & rated 90 points: Drank at Black Sheep. 91-92
Smooth. Fruit dissipating a bit . Still a very nice bottle of wine. (1818 views)
Tasted by MarcEBeaudoin on 4/28/2016: Very pretty, earthy aromas. I like the time spent in the cellar - it made this smoother and more elegant than previous tastings. The fruit has faded only slightly, but not to the wine's detriment. Mild notes of pink peppercorn and smoke. lovely. (2702 views)
 Tasted by maxima on 2/25/2016 & rated 88 points: Merlot (54 %), Cabernet-sauvignon (31 %), Petit verdot (10 %) et Cabernet franc (5%)
Beaucoup de dépôts dans mon verre!
Nez sur les pruneaux confits avec un peu de réduction.
En bouche, tannins massifs et un brin astringeants, longue finale sur la chauffe un peu. (2751 views)
Tasted by OttawaB on 5/27/2012 & rated 92 points: Definite sediment. Still a purple core (although duller) with red/garnet on the edges. Inky dark.
Nice elegant dark fruits on the aroma. Some licorice/mint, herbal, cocoa, and earth ...... rich and complex.
Dark fruits, plump raisins, cassis, chocolate. A nice seam of that Tuscan herbalness running through it. Maybe a spot of tar as well. Ripe fruit but held in check by a nice seam of acidity. Smooth drying tannins. Medium to full bodied. Overall, nicely balanced. A really good wine. Newer world in fruit, but that older world structure. (5900 views)
Tasted by Outplaying on 5/2/2012: Aromas of dark fruits, tar and slight herbaceous notes. Rich and dark, dry. Somewhat modern and the fruit verges on raisin I guess as a result of the warm season. The finish is long and dry with some black pepper. Some herbaceous notes but in a good way. Very nice. (5744 views)
Tasted by jplevin1 on 7/14/2011 & rated 91 points: excellent vintage; enjoyed with some of my very favorite dishes in the world from Babbo....black tagliatelle, mint love letters, porterhouse steak (6094 views)
Tasted by SadEdjo on 7/9/2011 & rated 90 points: Rich cassis, chocolate, loam with good acidic lift. A cross between California & Italy. (5188 views)
Tasted by Delli on 12/30/2010 & rated 90 points: At lunch at Carisma. Very slow decant. Not overly complex on the nose or pallet but solid mouth feel with sweet tannins and smooth lingering finish that pleasantly surprised. A very nice wine. Not great value but would galdly drink agian on someone elses dime. (5394 views)
Tasted by hargy on 6/4/2010 & rated 86 points: not my style - hard and overextracted (perhaps it is the year) - keep to see if it will soften with age (3374 views)
Tasted by Al-Vino on 4/18/2010 & rated 88 points: Vertical tasting with 2002 and 2003 vintages. Having experienced the outstanding depth and complexity of it's namesake - the Bolgheri Superiore - the consensus was that this 'second wine' is trading on the goodwill of the Ornellaia name. For my money, I'll look elsewhere for premium wines. (3420 views)
Tasted by Tarrant on 10/31/2009 & rated 93 points: Excellent, very different that our first bottle in that it has smoothed out somewhat, but the intensity of flavour is fabulous, so rich and intense, yet maintaining an elegance that is missing from some 'new world' blockbusters that would dare to compare - Black, full bodied with a nose of intense plum, cherry, black fruit, chocolate, coffee, earth and vanilla, tannins beginning to settle, complex, very balanced, intense and sweet on the palate with terrific length, awesome (93 Points). (3734 views)
Tasted by jctaylor on 2/27/2009 & rated 92 points: Excellent concentration, big full fruit and well intregrated tannins. It could smooth out some more in the cellar, but drank beautifully right now. (3973 views)
Tasted by MichelBesner on 7/2/2008 & rated 89 points: Still a bit young but the tannins we're quite soft. Nice aromas and a medium finish. This baby will be outstanding in a few years. Had it with antipasti ... (4241 views)
Tasted by Barbara B on 5/13/2008 & rated 90 points: 20th Anniversary for Ornellaia (Crowne Plaza Hotel, Rome): 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc, 5% Petit Verdot
Purple core, ruby rim; very youthful looking. Nose: sweet fruits. Palate: high/good acidity, moderate alcohol, slight sweetness. (5634 views)
Tasted by SadEdjo on 1/28/2007: dark. oak & cassis nose & finish with sweet tannin. very nice. (3944 views)
Tasted by drcbarroso on 9/26/2006: Way too young. Took a while to open up in the decanter. Some cherry and vanilla, but lots of tannins. Let em sleep. (5167 views)
Tasted by hutch on 9/3/2006 & rated 91 points: High octane wine. Some pepper bursts forward. A really interesting, great wine. need to retaste. (5320 views)
Tasted by gildedwon on 8/13/2006 & rated 88 points: The 2003 is showing richness and softness, as a result of the warm vintage. Aromas with intense notes of mature fruit, coming primarily from the Merlot, combined with the complexity of the well-structured Cabernet and the freshness of the tannins of Petit Verdot. Still very young. Let sit... (5255 views)

Tenuta dell'Ornellaia Le Serre Nuove

A true ‘Second vin’ of Ornellaia, Le Serre Nuove dell’Ornellaia was first introduced with vintage 1997, resulting from the decision to carry out an even more rigid selection during the blending phase of the base wines which give life to Ornellaia. Produced primarily from the younger vineyards, the wine combines the pedigree of the flagship wine with freshness, accessibility and softness together with a structure, balance and intensity typical of the great terroir of the Estate.

Red Bordeaux Blend

Red Bordeaux is generally made from a blend of grapes. Permitted grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and rarely Carménère.Today Carménère is rarely used, with Château Clerc Milon, a fifth growth Bordeaux, being one of the few to still retain Carménère vines. As of July 2019, Bordeaux wineries authorized the use of four new red grapes to combat temperature increases in Bordeaux. These newly approved grapes are Marselan, Touriga Nacional, Castets, and Arinarnoa.

Wineries all over the world aspire to making wines in a Bordeaux style. In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify wines made in this way. Although most Meritage wines come from California, there are members of the Meritage Association in 18 states and five other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Israel, and Mexico.
