Tasted by rhyman on 4/20/2024 & rated 92 points: Cork broke so we decanted this for about an hour. I really loved the wine. It was powerful and almost attacked your mouth from the beginning. Lots of flavor of plums and black currants. It was just a mouthful. A little dry at the end, which lowered the score some. Sorry to say my last bottle. (467 views)
Tasted by Backdoctor on 3/15/2024: turned (765 views)
Tasted by Ridgerunner on 2/2/2024 & rated 92 points: A really pleasant surprise... I had forgotten this existed. (834 views)
Tasted by Bakerbd on 10/4/2022 & rated 93 points: Cassis, herbal, pepper, perfectly (not too) ripe, long and complex (1905 views)
Tasted by Rezy13 on 8/5/2022: Friday Double Blind Tasting $60+ (Bin 75 Alpharetta, GA): Dark core, opaque with maroon rim; tar, lots of berry, lacks some focus, blackberry and blueberry, smoke, not my favorite and hardly reminds me of Cabernet. (1611 views)
Tasted by glou.sf on 6/15/2022 & rated 93 points: Fragrant nose with lots of dark fruit, cherries, cassis, spicy pepper notes, some oak, and smoke. Ripe fruit, but hiding the alcohol quite well, and balanced by a good amount of acidity and structural tannins on the palate with similar flavors. Long finish. This is really lovely, a big wine but by no means overdone. At this point it’s all about the fruit, but it has plenty of backbone to age. Not usually my style, but I enjoyed this thoroughly. 93+ (1717 views)
Tasted by Pinotfanbg on 3/1/2022 & rated 90 points: Tight, dark and impenetrable on opening. Softened a bit over two days in the opened bottle. Blackberry, graphite, very fine grained tannins. Intense with nice balance, but not giving a lot of pleasure yet. No noticeable oak flavors. I’d hold these if I had additional bottles. (1360 views)
Tasted by haqofeta on 2/26/2022: Absolutely delicious. This is such a pleasure to drink right now. It has years (decade(s)) of life left. But if you have more than just one, you're depriving yourself if you don't try it now. And my tastes typically lean towards giving reds more time in the cellar. (1353 views)
Tasted by djpo on 2/12/2022 & rated 93 points: PNP and experienced the tannins noted in recent TNs. In response double decanted, plenty of sediment. Wine took a while to wake up the nose and the flavor profile. Noted menthol and dark fruit flavors, a fine, consistent finish. Excited for day 2. Will hold last bottle 5+ more years. (1030 views)
Tasted by markandsusanw on 2/21/2021 & rated 93 points: Decanted and strained for sediment (lots)…Wow, this is truly singing right now. Fruit intact, but far from in your face, tannins softened and sweetened a bit, but firmly present. A little gravel at the mid, to balance the cherries up front. Not at all oaky. A lot going on in an extremely well made wine that could easily go head to head with Cabs at 3x the price point. Wonderful stuff! (1933 views)
Tasted by bavaur on 1/5/2021 & rated 92 points: Decanted for two hours. Very dark in the glass, with bloody meat aromas, heady raspberries and some lighter blue notes on the nose. Tannic on the palate but not overwhelmingly, no real oak flavours and instead just lots of ripe blackberries and raspberries. This will definitely continue to go and go but drinking lovely now and stood up perfectly to a rich beef liver dish. (1691 views)
Tasted by PasoWallaWill on 12/4/2020 & rated 93 points: Dark sweet black fruit on the nose. Eucalyptus, dark black fruit and a touch of raisins on the palate. Enough fruit and grip for another decade.
Night three notes: This is in a way better place tonight which portends greatly for the future. Raisiny notes have faded to dark black cherry and grip. The nose is more expansive with black raspberry and eucalyptus notes. Great wine. Bumping this up to 93 points. I wish I had another bottle for ten years from now! (1501 views)
Tasted by Pugs on 5/30/2020 & rated 92 points: Decanted 2 hrs prior to service. I thought it was excellent, others at the table felt it was too tannic. I think it needs more time for the tannins to mellow out or would suggest more time in a decanter prior to service. I think this wine needs food. Great effort from Morgan though. (2363 views)
Tasted by prasm on 10/14/2019 & rated 92 points: Pop and pour, consumed over 3 hours. Nose: Medium-plus expressiveness, red licorice, menthol, and tobacco with blue - blueberry - and black - blackberry - fruit. Palate: Medium-full bodied, spicy dark fruit attack, solid acidic backbone, spice driven mid-palate lift, tobacco and earthy notes appear in the back-end. Finish: Lengthy, 45-60 seconds, dominated by dark fruit, eucalyptus and dark earth. My second bottle in the past month and this one is showing noticeably better. (2805 views)
Tasted by prasm on 9/21/2019 & rated 90 points: Consumed over 3 days, vacuvined and refrigerated, note from day 3. Nose: Medium-plus expressiveness, classic cabernet characteristics - earthy dark fruit - black cherry, blackberry, and plum with eucalyptus and tobacco. Palate: full bodied, dark fruit attack with subtle tobacco and leather undertones thru the mid-palate though surprisingly thin, tobacco, leather, and spicy notes dominate the back-end. Finish: Medium length, 30-45 seconds, showing dark fruit - blackberry and plum, leather, and spice. The mid-palate thinness, typical of many Sonoma cabernets from my experience, slightly detracts from an otherwise exceptional experience here. (2071 views)
Tasted by Craig15 on 5/18/2019 & rated 91 points: Smells like a cab, tastes more like a zin. Nice wine and still drinks fairly young. (2369 views)
Tasted by David_T on 4/5/2019 & rated 91 points: Black cherry, plum, tea, cocoa and earth. Integrated medium acid and medium+ tannins. Drinking very well now but should past its 10th birthday as well. (2184 views)
Tasted by Seo on 11/11/2018 & rated 92 points: Way different than the last bottle and confirmed my suspect that the last one was cooked. Plum, sweet chocolate, eucalyptus and a little bit of wild strawberries. Palate is seamless. Great acidity and tannins. Dark fruits, tea and medium plus finish. This has a few years left before peaking. Built for long haul. (2705 views)
Tasted by gordoyflaca on 10/19/2018 & rated 93 points: Nice, rich sweet blsck fruits with tar and tea (2186 views)
Tasted by mgstull on 7/24/2018 & rated 88 points: Black cherry, cassis, tea, and a bit of tar. Light in the mid palate and a relatively short finish. (2551 views)
Tasted by Wine_in_HD on 7/9/2018 & rated 90 points: I have never tasted a cabernet that tasted so much like a zinfandel. Despite this, it was pretty good, just a little disappointed. (2325 views)
Tasted by jstrovel@gmail.com on 6/16/2018 & rated 92 points: Great cab. not overly complex but quite enjoyable. (2213 views)
Tasted by pryby on 6/9/2018 & rated 92 points: Very nice. Deep and dark. Plum, chocolate, coffee, bay leaf(?). Tannins well integrated. (2156 views)
Tasted by mgstull on 5/25/2018 & rated 90 points: Big in a rustic style. Black fruit, currant, and black cherry predominate. Needs a beefy meal to bring balance. I’m conflicted because while this is big in texture, there isn’t much finesse. Still, a nice bottle. (2188 views)
Tasted by Seo on 5/22/2018 flawed bottle: Suspect this was a cooked bottle. Stewed fruit. No acidity. Seems atypical for the style Morgan has. Have another bottle and eager to try it. (2040 views)

2010 Bedrock Wine Co. Cabernet Sauvignon Bedrock Vineyard

From release mailer:

2010 Bedrock Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, Sonoma Valley: As most of you already know I only make a few barrels of Cabernet a year, and until 2012, it has always been sourced from my family’s Bedrock Vineyard. The reason for this is that I have very particular tastes when it comes to Cabernet- I like it old-school, picked on the early side, unafraid of tannins. I want it farmed impeccably. I want to make Cab that is going to be better in ten or twenty years. The 2010 in many ways encapsulates this. Perfumed, structured, and taut, the wine saw 26 months in 80% new French oak from Taransaud, Darnajou. Sylvain, and Bordelaise. Definitely one to lay down.

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

Bedrock Vineyard

The Bedrock Vineyard is American vineyard royalty, considered by many the most historically and qualitatively gilded plot of land in the Sonoma Valley. Planted to vitis vinifera originally in 1854 and financed by William Tecumseh Sherman (a banker before he was a general), the vineyard has seen American winemaking grow up around it. Over that time it has been planted and replanted, with over 30 different types of grape interspersed throughout the vineyard, much of it Zinfandel and Alicante Bouschet, but also Tempranillo, Mondeuse, Carignane and Mourvedre amongst others.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

California

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson

Sonoma County

Mendocino County

Sonoma Valley

Sonoma County, California, is one of the most important winegrowing regions in the whole of the United States. Vines have been planted here since the 1850s and, apart from the inevitable hiatus brought about by Prohibition, the county's relationship with wine has been prolific and unbroken.

Viticulturally speaking, Sonoma County is divided into three distinct sections: Sonoma Valley, Northern Sonoma and Sonoma Coast. Each of these has its own AVA title and encompasses several sub-AVAs within its boundaries.
