Drinking even better than I remember. Glad I still have another one left. The oak-caramel flavors are too prominent. Just not really very well balanced. Might go well with BBQ ribs with a smoky tomato sauce. Not sad that this is our last bottle. (1836 views) | | Tasted by ChipGreen on 4/17/2014 & rated 88 points: This wine was made by Chris Brockway of Broc Cellars, for Arrowhead Mountain Vineyard. Arrowhead's first foray into producing wine after selling their fruit to Copain and JC Cellars for 5 years. My first of three bottles and it was a good one despite a little cork seepage and some tartrates/sediment. Cork seepage was only 1/2" so not compromised. Recommend decanting as this wine still needs a little air to fully open up. Mostly cherry nose with some oak and a little heat. The heat blew off with some air to reveal a more nuanced nose that included currant, plum, anise and allspice. Similar palate rounded out with smoky bramble notes and dark fruits. Medium+ acidity and moderate tannins on the medium finish. Vacu-vin'd and finished the last 1/3 of bottle on day three and it was as good or better than day one so this wine still has some life left to it. Too sweet on the finish...almost as if there was some residual sugar. I believe the fruit was there at one point...but it almost seems as though the winemaker had too heavy of a hand. (1690 views) | | Tasted by Loudounwine on 11/13/2013 & rated 75 points: One of the worst bottles I recall having. The nose was the most interesting part -- coffee, anise, and something more astringent. There seemed to be almost no fruit left. Finish was horrible. We drank more than we'd like to try to describe it -- closest we came up with was the taste after licking cheap envelopes.... There was some seepage at cork and fair amount of sediment. I don't think this will benefit from aging. I'd pop them if you have them and see what you think since ratings have been all over the scale for this one. (1255 views) | | Tasted by Momus99 on 10/29/2013 & rated 89 points: A very well-put-together wine. Brilliant dark red color without bricking. Nose redolent of red berries + caramel. Palate is very pleasant with longish finish. (524 views) | | Tasted by Kesslerc14 on 10/29/2013 & rated 88 points: Lots of cherry, caramel, smoke and mineral. Interesting bottle, not sure if it was something I would get again. Not bad, just not my wheelhouse. (699 views) | | Tasted by Mmulle on 4/30/2013 & rated 92 points: Amazing oak and smoke! A+ wine (942 views) | | Tasted by grantsi on 4/24/2013: unpleasant in every way - poured down the drain (1328 views) |
| Arrowhead Mountain Vineyard Producer website2006 Arrowhead Mountain Vineyard Arrowhead RedFrom the Producer: Arrowhead Mountain Vineyard is located East of the town of Sonoma, where the vines are planted on hills that in places have slopes of 55 degrees. The slopes and the volcanic rock force the vines to struggle, which causes the intense complexity allowing the pepper and spice of this wine to shine through. Arrowhead Red is a combination of Zinfandel and Syrah blended to provide notes of brier, black fruit, and a hint of smoke. The lush mouth feel is well balanced with a good acidic backbone. The vineyard is famous for producing big and bold wines. While it is excellent served with food, it will be equally enjoyable being sipped alone. USAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Sonoma CountyMendocino CountySonoma CountySonoma Coast |
