| Community Tasting Notes (average 93 pts. and median of 93 pts. in 22 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by OmiyaDrinker on 7/27/2023 & rated 93 points: Initially smells like a Bordeaux but on closer inspection some clear differences. With this, the fruit (blackcurrant) comes first and then the graphite or cedar 2nd. Some Eucalyptus and methol notes on the nose also mixed with some spice. Matching the colour, this tastes quite fresh on the palate. A couple of hours in the decanter helped this a lot for my preference. After a couple of hours, more tertiary flavours including leather. On the finish, again some spice with cinnamon and star anise. Still tannic but of a fantastic velvety quality with medium+ acid. This was very good but if you asked me whether I preferred this or the younger Diamond Creek's I've had, I'd say the latter. Will need to drink more Diamond Creek's to draw a conclusion on what this means. Presented itself like a pedigreed right bank with tremendous elegance and restrained, dark red fruit. I think I enjoyed this because this had the most acid out of the wines tonight. A very complete and classically proportioned Cab in just the right spot for drinking. 1/8. (941 views) | | Tasted by KenK on 1/18/2023 & rated 91 points: Slightly faded dried red fruits with an earthy appeal. Good, but not outstanding (582 views) | | Tasted by aquacongas on 9/24/2020 & rated 96 points: blind I guessed Togni 97, Beautiful young still primary notes driven californian cab, more Bx style, elegant, not loud. 96 (1464 views) | | Tasted by CellarBuzzz on 8/23/2019 & rated 91 points: We opened this bottle on a Friday night with guests. The cork split but I was able to retrieve the bottom half without too much cork getting into the juice and was relieved to see some pressure still upon the removal of the remaining half of the cork.. The nose revealed an abundance of dark fruit. What I tasted was that dark fruit with some graphite, vanilla and spice.
I, like other Diamond Creek enthusiasts have seen the beautiful 1999 Volcanic Hill vintage nosedive over the past 6 months. Regarding the 1999 Red Rock Terrace...I highly recommend consumption in the near future as some cloudiness protruded into the glass on this pour. I have 2 more in the cellar and they are at the top of the "drink now" list. (2339 views) | | Tasted by Winobogado on 4/16/2018 & rated 93 points: Recommendations all over the Internet work to consume between 2004 - 2012. Open the bottle today and it was still magnificent and complex with many layers of flavors. This wine is aging quite well (1703 views) | | Tasted by Winiac on 7/2/2017 & rated 93 points: Dark red color with expressive Cabernet bouquet. Extremely balanced with pure fruit and nice acidity, full bodied and solid backbone structure. Medium to long length and sweet, pleasant finish. Went well will leg of lamb with pomegranate sauce. (1941 views) | | Tasted by yiuwing_hk on 5/26/2015 & rated 97 points: Someone says Diamond Creek grows Lafite clone in US, and I try to believe what I drank last night. Pronounced nose of graphite, cassis, cigar, vanilla oak & leather, hint of mint and coffee. Very fine tannins, fresh juicy acidity, intense dark fruit, graphite, tarry minerals, liquorice, long length and a fine dark fruits sweetness finish. (2706 views) | | Tasted by TonyKolish on 8/29/2014 & rated 98 points: Cabernet doesn't get any better. In its fully glory, beautiful deep red, roses and cool eucalyptus on the nose, dark cherries and dark chocolate on the palate. Tannins just perfect. Finish sailed on. (2890 views) | | Tasted by jinatnrt on 3/17/2014 & rated 92 points: Three out of four guessed that this was a Bordeaux from a good vintage. I'm still stunned by how well Diamond Creek wines age. These wines are made to be cellared and enjoyed throughout years. Definitely look for older world qualities with a finish that is distinctively new world. This wine will age for another couple of decades! (2732 views) | | Tasted by Simplyterry on 12/25/2013 & rated 93 points: Still drinking incredibly well. Let decent for 2hrs and enjoyed with Christmas Prime Rib. (2420 views) | | Tasted by Brett on 12/22/2012 & rated 93 points: Just a great wine. (2755 views) | | Tasted by prettydeceextrap on 11/28/2011 & rated 92 points: (A-) No formal notes. Still kicking, and with some granular tannin on the back palate well balanced against the wine's acidity. Red fruits and a bit of dirt. (2533 views) | | Tasted by yotaiwan on 10/26/2010 & rated 95 points: great elegance and smooth tannins... (2528 views) | | Tasted by ryanwine on 5/5/2009 & rated 92 points: classic diamond creek terrace vineyard nose. There is sufficient fruit on the nose, however I would not want to wait another 7+years. Eucalyptus and red fruits on the nose. Medium finish with the fruit loosing its luster after an hour in the glass. (2585 views) | | Tasted by The Wine Guy on 5/13/2007 & rated 88 points: nice fruit on the onset but did not hold its ground while the tanins were sufficient to last a while the ju8ice just was not what I was expecting. This is my last bottle and I will not go here again. 4 bottles purchased and 3 disapointments. (2844 views) |

Producer's Estate Visit - Tasting
Diamond Creek Open House and 2015 Release Tasting Cabernet SauvignonCabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.
Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet SauvignonUSAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Napa Valley Napa Valley Wineries and Wine (Napa Valley Vintners)Diamond MountainDiamond Mountain AVA: definition |
