Tasted by CaptainBert on 1/13/2024: Gorgeous ruby red color

Perfumed floral nose (violets). Blueberries, red raspberry & currants, dark chocolate covered cheries with a touch of earthy herbal spice on the finish. Getting a touch of blue cheese as it opens up more.

Drinks well rounded and balanced. Tame acidity. Blueberry and red fruit dominate with dark chocolate showing on the dry finish. Picking up a slight raw red meat element the more I consume. (176 views)
Tasted by pkouchu on 1/26/2021 & rated 94 points: mint, tobacco, black cherry, cassis, red plum, baking spice, licorice, tobacco, savory herbs, and bitter chocolate.

Relatively smoothed out, missing a bit of intensity and richness i'm usually used to for TK fruit.

Nonetheless good wine in a nice spot, doesn't need much air to get going (2129 views)
Tasted by CR lawrence on 12/30/2020 & rated 95 points: 2010 Realm Cellars Beckstoffer to Kalon Vineyard is outstanding. Full of sweet aromas, fresh, soft, integrated tannins, a wonderful mouth feel, luscious drink, and long finish. Still drinking great. (1919 views)
Tasted by zylmanj on 8/16/2020 & rated 96 points: I think we all individually like different things about wine. Some like hedonistic and some don't. This wine is more towards hedonistic and gets better with every sip. It is smooth with velvety tannins and good balance. Chocolate notes mix perfectly with the fruit. Overall great wine. I popped and poured because I didn't have the option to decant. I would think a 1 or 2 hour decant would be about perfect. (2209 views)
Tasted by hvaleiras on 2/24/2020 & rated 95 points: Drank with a steak dinner. Lots of dark fruit, chocolate. Long smooth finish. Excellent pairing. Perfect to drink now (2658 views)
Tasted by Mtnmd1 on 11/28/2019 & rated 94 points: From magnum for Thanksgiving dinner. Opened 2 hours prior. Still young. Would have done better w a decant. Dark fruit, almost a dark chocolate note. Excellent! (2652 views)
Tasted by markcic on 7/6/2019 & rated 96 points: A year and a half since my last bottle and it has really improved. Last night we drank it alongside a Insignia, an Audentia and a Catena Zapata all from the same vintage. All opened 6-7 hours in advance and tasted at the 4 hours mark. The group voted this as the number 1 wine of the night. The nose was dark berry and hints of chocolate. The palate was dark berry, dark plums, tobacco and again hints of chocolate. The finish was long and smooth. Just a great bottle of wine. (1802 views)

Tasted by hvaleiras on 6/28/2018 & rated 95 points: Cherries, chocolate, dark berries flavors. Smooth finish. Perfect to drink now (1412 views)
Tasted by Acohen on 3/4/2018 & rated 93 points: Super dark and rich with intense currant and good dark fruit (1694 views)
Tasted by markcic on 12/23/2017 & rated 92 points: Slow ox'd for 5 hours and then decanted through a vinturi and let sit for 2 hours while we drank the PH Dr. Crane. The nose on this wine is unbelievable with dark fruit and mocha. The palate is dark fruit, plum, mocha, licorice and some smoke. The tannins are still tight so the finish is tight and grippy with the licorice (not my favorite fruit) coming through. My friend Michael and I both agree that I was probably guilty of infanticide as this wine is way too young to be consumed at this time. Perhaps with a 7/8 hour decant it would be approachable alternatively put it in the back of the cellar till 2022/2025. On another note our wives were split as my wife (who loves licorice) loved the wine while Michael's wife did not like it at all. (1579 views)
Tasted by Geaux Tigers on 8/31/2017 & rated 95 points: Nothing specific but this was awesome! 95 may be conservative! (2108 views)

Tasted by MelroseCellars on 6/19/2016 & rated 97 points: Wow! Poured a small taste before decanting, and I knew this was going to be something special. Drank this over the next several hours, and I almost wanted to cry. Deep and dark color, like a brick with some purplish ink mixed in. The aroma was powerful but balanced. Blackberry and leather early, followed by some earth. The wine was dry, grippy on the tongue. This helped the finish linger for several seconds. Flavors seemed to include currant and cherry, and mild earth balanced nicely leading into that aforementioned long finish. I am always happy with B2K wines, but this one might just be amongst my favorites. I'm still drinking this as I write. (1870 views)

Tasted by Mtnmd1 on 3/5/2016 & rated 95 points: Tremendous depth w long finish. Worked from PnP and on through the evening. Finished it off over two nights. Started off with well integrated voluptuous fruit that went on and on. Night two reins that in a smidge. Young wine w many years in front of it. (1718 views)
Tasted by Marcosolow on 2/13/2016 & rated 94 points: Lots of dark fruit. PnP, was fantastic out of the gate and got better over the 2 hours we drank the bottle. (1745 views)
Tasted by Tonythefish on 2/7/2016 & rated 95 points: Holy shit this is good. Great fruit and over the 75 minutes of decanting and drinking it evolved beautifully in the glass. Dark fruits and very long finish (1185 views)
Tasted by Fid on 12/19/2015 & rated 94 points: PnP at home. This really needs a good, long decant. I didn't do that. Nonetheless, nice structured Napa cab, with nice nose and good fruit. By the 2nd glass, and over an hour this was getting better and better. I think in 5+ years it will hit its sweet spot. (1855 views)
Tasted by fdub on 4/12/2014 & rated 94 points: Flamboyant wine with massive power. Tight tannic structure which demands massive aeration. Will show better in a few years. (2304 views)

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard

Beckstoffer To Kalon continues to receive worldwide accolades for its wines, particularly in the last decade. The vineyard is on a gentle slope on the western foothills of the Oakville appellation. Soils are Bale loam/Bale clay loam, and are impeccably farmed by Andy Beckstoffer’s team. We have a by-acre contract so we can determine canopy, crop load and picking dates – but rely on the Beckstoffer viticulturists for insight into this unique vineyard to guide our decisions. ... ©2012 Tor Kenward Family Wines

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
