The alcohol was 15.5% but was not noticeable by mouth or nose. Nice Zin flavor, smooth in the mouth with a nice finish that exhibited a very slight hint of dryness. The Mettler Family Vineyard was established in 1899 and it shows. Made from old vines in Lodi this Zin is reserved and not nearly as hot as some of the other Zins I have tasted from Lodi. This wine is not a high octane flavor bomb but a Zin that is a little sweeter and refined with some nuance to the flavors. (3046 views) | | Tasted by The Drunken Cyclist on 1/7/2014 & rated 87 points: For me, this is a typical fruity Zin--big and almost syrupy up front. It takes a bit of effort to get past all that fruit, and when you do, it is a bit thin on the mid palate. There is a bit of tannic structure on the finish, suggesting that this could go a bit longer, but there is not the complexity for any long term aging. Good, maybe Very Good. thedrunkencyclist.com (3176 views) | | Tasted by tp8888 on 10/29/2013 & rated 89 points: nice smoothplum, blackberry and mocha flavors with a nice hint of spice. the taste has legs (3310 views) | | Tasted by JDR58 on 6/30/2013 & rated 89 points: Full bodied zin - let breathe about an hour and was worth the wait. (3455 views) | | Tasted by Bigatlwineguy on 6/7/2013 & rated 85 points: - Brick color and aromas of cabbage and ethanol - Sour (1392 views) | | Tasted by isaacjamesbaker on 5/24/2013 & rated 86 points: Dark and saucy on the nose, with lots of plums and blackberries, along with mocha, chocolate shavings and some earthy-peppery notes. Bright berry fruit leads the way on the palate (raspberry and blackberries), the acid is medium-to-low, and the tannins show some grip. The chocolate, toasty aspects are bold but integrated. Notes of cinnamon and baker’s chocolate linger on the rich, plummy finish. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Central Valley The Central California Winegrowers (Official site) | Central Valley (California Wine Institute)Lodi Lodi Woodbridge Winegrape Commission | Lodi District Grape Growers Association |
