Tasted by nfurlong on 4/21/2019 & rated 92 points: purple ruby; wet concrete with blackberry compote nose; intense stewed black fruit -- raspberries, blackberries, black cherries in the mouth. Long lingering aftertaste.Medium tannins with loads of fruit. Excellent! (1278 views)
Tasted by nfurlong on 12/7/2017 & rated 90 points: Deep garnet; nose of cinnamon herb, blackberry aspic; lightly tannic, blackberries, black raspberry ganache, mocha and fresh spring rain-washed granite. Excellent pairing with red sauces. (2432 views)
Tasted by dgyeaney on 7/18/2016: - Brick color. It's balanced with a medium/full body. Smooth texture with a medium finish. (3419 views)
Tasted by PourSomeRed on 4/12/2015 & rated 90 points: I really like this Cab. Nice ripe dark fruit that doesn't over power with a smokey earthy component as well. (4809 views)
Tasted by rikman on 3/19/2015 & rated 90 points: Paired with top-quality burger and Cambozola blue cheese. Medium body (for a Cab). Rich plum notes, light tinge of earth and tobacco. Good food wine. Decanted for 1.5 hours which was just right--great flavor from first taste to last drop. I wish I had more! (4329 views)
Tasted by PourSomeRed on 3/15/2015 & rated 89 points: Solid Cab. Dark, ripe fruit with a bit of spice. (3937 views)
Tasted by SSGibson on 8/26/2014 & rated 89 points: notes much the same as last time; holding up well (4192 views)
Tasted by SSGibson on 3/3/2014 & rated 89 points: On the nose and palate, dark fruit and smoke/oak; on the palate, plum, blackberry and mocha, with the oak/smoke integrating well. Chewy tannins with a medium to long finish. Nice for the price (~$20) and better with food than on its own. On the line between 89 and 90. (3390 views)
Tasted by DanielJ on 1/6/2014 & rated 89 points: Nice bright cab. Soft tanins. Good red fruit. Hay on the nose. Good value (2639 views)
Tasted by DanielJ on 10/12/2013 & rated 90 points: I enjoyed this wine. Took a little time to open up but once it did it had a full rich flavor. It went well with homemade pizza (3003 views)
Tasted by hosscrow on 9/21/2013 & rated 91 points: Let this wine breathe. Starts out as nice red fruit, tart acid and ripe tannins. In a few hours, the parts meld and the fruit becomes richer with a leather and chocolate background on the nose and a hint of spicy clove...nicely complex, not powerful. Deep, dark red with purple highlights. The wine has some ability to age more. Smooth mouthfeel and a strong finish with lots of fruit and some what bitter tannins. Get more of this wine and let it sit. (1826 views)
Tasted by Winoluver on 7/31/2013 & rated 89 points: Decanted & it was better than first bottle I had several mos ago. Still lots of oak & tannins. Still slight burn of alcohol, but nice finish of mocha. (2923 views)
Tasted by hosscrow on 6/14/2013: notes to follow (1210 views)
Tasted by Watchster on 5/15/2013 & rated 89 points: May need to open up. Heavy heat. (3518 views)
Tasted by Augoo on 4/23/2013 & rated 92 points: Let the bottle breathe for about 30 minutes. Big cab that has a great nose and suited well with bone in pork chops and smoked jalepeno tuna dip. I highly recommend tannins calm down after an hour or so. Big cab the sooner you drink it better than later. Unbelievable qpr at $20. (3091 views)
Tasted by DanielJ on 4/7/2013 & rated 88 points: Lots of chewy tannins but a little flat. Opens up after a while and improves (3036 views)
Tasted by Garfield on 3/12/2013 & rated 90 points: Kind of dry with dusty red fruits and lots of oak. Not for people who don't appreciate tons of oak. (3524 views)
Tasted by hosscrow on 3/10/2013 & rated 90 points: Even though this wine is from the hotter Dry Creek area, its characteristics are Sonoma Cab...lighter weight, higher acid, bright fruit. Color is a deep purple-red, nearly opaque-just starting out. Dark red fruit aroma, not much bouquet yet. A high tone hint of mint and cherry gives the nose complexity. Not powerful. Still tannic on the attack but on the finish the red fruit and acidity come more into balance. A well-made elegant, claret-style wine with a good future. (1469 views)
Tasted by PourSomeRed on 2/26/2013 & rated 87 points: Nice but too young. Needs to develope some structure, but in time I think this could be a 90+ wine. I would decant if I plan on drinking one in the near future. (2601 views)
Tasted by DanielJ on 2/16/2013 & rated 89 points: good wine but not memorable. Good value. (2684 views)
Tasted by tabrand on 2/15/2013 & rated 90 points: Big earthy smooth fruit, would buy again (2592 views)
Tasted by SF Steve on 12/29/2012 & rated 90 points: One of Mike's last at Michel-Schlumberger. Like many Napa / Sonoma Cabs from 2009, this one is full bodied already, and with a nice smooth tannin finish (especially for the age). I just stocked up more..... I hope the new team at Michel-Schlumberger keeps the tradition of great Cabs alive. (2904 views)

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
