Tasted by cbbrown3 on 9/16/2012 & rated 90 points: The wine is a fairly dark maroon color. The nose has earthy berries, pine needles, well worn leather, cherries, meat juices, black pepper, dried herbs, underbrush, and a touch of licorice. This is medium body with soft, fully integrated tannins and very nice acidity. On the palate the wine has ripe, plush berries with a nice earthy overlay and dried herbs. The finish is fairly long and very smooth. This wine has aged very gracefully. There are no rough edges or any out of balance elements on this well aged, bargain priced red from Spain. (3609 views)
Tasted by coyler on 8/14/2012: Visual: Dark Maroon, violet color at edges, no bricking.

Nose: Tree bark, worn cherry, slightly menthol

Palate:dark fruit, tar, mint, and leather. Long, moderately dry finish

B/B- (3535 views)
Tasted by coyler on 5/23/2012: Dark ruby color. Surprised there is no bricking at this stage. Not very giving on the nose very slight menthol notes with faint pine needles. Saddle leather quickly becomes menthol then gives way to damp earth and pine needles. 15-20 second finish. Nice, not great. Unlikely to improve. Good QOR, held up well. Solid B. (3678 views)
Tasted by Nanda on 4/20/2012 & rated 88 points: Earth-driven, savory, red fruit nose. Palate is medium bodied with earth and leathery notes. A bit one-dimensional. But well balanced and seamless. Would be a good food wine. (3834 views)
Tasted by VinoDiver on 5/24/2011 & rated 88 points: Nice wine. Drinking well right now. (4453 views)
Tasted by Normones on 12/14/2008 & rated 85 points: Did not decant - perhaps should have. Thought this was a tad bitter and green. nice earth and leather but on the hot side. Wanted to love it but thought it was , meh (3032 views)
Tasted by TCKM on 8/30/2008 & rated 89 points: My last '04.. drinking pretty well right now. Opened for an hour. Dark ruby in the glass with black fruit and a slightly smoky nose (or maybe that's was from the barbeque). Bright cherries, minerals and a little bitter cocoa on the finish. Tannins and acid were in pretty good balance. Stored overnight with nitrogen in the fridge.. slightly oxidized, but held together. (2993 views)
Tasted by SoCal on 7/9/2008: This wine IMO is drinking very nice right now. Still a bit off balance with a hot finish but never the less a great QPR. (3113 views)
Tasted by SoCal on 4/29/2008: Nice for the price too bad the 2005 is not as good. (3463 views)
Tasted by drdebs on 4/14/2008 & rated 90 points: Terrific wine, drinking beautifully now and by no means past its prime. Rich plum color. Aromas of smoke, leather, and blackberries. On the palate, there was a lovely mix of blackberry and bitter chocolate, which turned dusty like cocoa powder amid the slightly bitter tannins. Smoky finish. Exceptional wine for the price. Will seek out 06, which looks to have a similar flavor profile. This rewarded 2 years of cellaring. (3575 views)
Tasted by ksmith on 4/1/2008 & rated 88 points: Still a vbery nice wine. Moving on to 2006 (3650 views)
Tasted by Rich S on 3/20/2008 & rated 90 points: Decanted for around 1.5 hours. Great, dark color. Definitely a mixed berry pie component on the nose, very new world. Tons of cherry and red fruit flavors along with some pepper on the palate. Quite smooth for an under $15 Spanish red. Very enjoyable finish. All around, a really great wine for the money and I wish I would have bought more because it sounds like the 05 vintage cannot compare. (3754 views)
Tasted by SoCal on 2/25/2008: A much better wine than the 2005. The ballance and overall quality is better. (4147 views)
Tasted by ksmith on 1/29/2008 & rated 89 points: Ruby garnet, smoke, cherry, dark fruits on the nose. Still noticeably tannic. Nice, smooth finish, this wine has improved over time (4243 views)
Tasted by Jeef on 11/19/2007 & rated 91 points: Glad I waited almost 2 years to drink the next bottle. Still drinking nicely the 2nd night. (4554 views)
Tasted by Javs on 8/28/2007 & rated 89 points: Licorice, charred wood, and grilled meat on the nose, smooth on the palate and a nice finish. Great value. (5115 views)
Tasted by JerzeyJohn on 7/8/2007 & rated 88 points: good QPR - not that familiar with Spansih Rhone varietals, so this was a pleasant surprise. Rich (for the price) and definitely opens up after about an hour. (5019 views)
Tasted by Winetex on 3/30/2007 flawed bottle: Flawed or at least I hope this wine wasn't supposed to taste like cooked prunes. My guess is that it was heat damaged. Purchased at Whole Foods. (5576 views)
Tasted by ob2s on 3/29/2007 flawed bottle: Ruby - Blueberry deep in appearance. Very ripe, but a tannin Monster because I ordered a 2004 and clicked no vintage subs and I realize now it is a 2005. Forget drinking a 2005 in 2007, yuk. Much better after 8 hours of decanting. (5618 views)
Tasted by waysteadgrapenuts on 3/27/2007: big jammy, like a lot of Aussies. (5604 views)
Tasted by JeffnCin on 3/21/2007: Drank this a while ago, don't remember too much. We liked it ok, but it didn't knock us out. 2.5 out of 4. (5384 views)
Tasted by hwallace3000K on 3/14/2007 & rated 89 points: A pleasant wine. Lots of minerals, meat (almost like slim jims), some black fruit, and a little burnt wood. I didn't intend to decant this for 3hrs, but I got busy and forgot about it. I'm wondering if some of the fruit blew off. Decent QPR. (5518 views)
Tasted by behm0027 on 3/1/2007 & rated 87 points: Dark cherry, fig, cinnamon, and chocolate on the nose. Plum and blackberry on the palate. Firm, fairly dry red wine with light acidity. Finish had notes of mocha, tobacco, and vanilla. Enjoyable, but not exceptional. (6026 views)
Tasted by SoCal on 2/3/2007 & rated 89 points: Great value in Spanish wine. Very Meaty…. (5583 views)
Tasted by wineismylife on 1/10/2007 & rated 91 points: Dallas Offline - Spanish Wines (De Tapas, Addison, TX): WIML91,WA90,WS87

Tasted January 10, 2007 at an offline. Opened and served immediately in a Spiegelau Authentis Magnum glass. Dark garnet to purple color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Nose of smoked meats, a touch of perfume and raspberries. Flavors of raspberries, red plums, red licorice and just a touch of mocha on the finish. Medium acidity, good tannins, medium to full bodied. Good balance overall. Drink over the short to mid-term. (6297 views)

Vinos de España - Wines of Spain (Instituto Español de Comercio Exterior) | Wikipedia
Wine Map on weinlagen-info

Spain is the third largest wine producing nation in the world, occupying the majority of the Iberian Peninsula with vast diversity in climate, culture, and of course, wine. From inky, dark reds of the [Priorat] to dry, white Finos from Andalusia, Spain can easily boast of elaborating a wide variety of notable styles. Within Spain there are currently 62 demarcated wine regions, of which a handful have gained international recognition: [Rioja], Priorat and [Ribera del Duero]. Yet these regions are only a small sample of the high quality wines Spain produces. Regions such as Cava, Penedes, Somontano, Galicia, Rueda and Jerez are only a few of the numerous regions worthy of exploration throughout Spain. Spain can also lay claim to having the most land under vine in the world, growing up to, by some accounts, 600 indigenous varietals of which Tempranillo is their most well known. Other popular varietals include [Garnacha], Bobal and Monastrell for reds and for whites; the infamous [sic] Palomino Fino grape which is used in the production of sherry wine, Pedro Ximenez in Montilla Morilles, Albarino used in the creation of the bright, effervescent wines of Galicia, and Verdejo in Rueda. - Source: - Catavino.net

Spain is not in the forefront of winemaking for its dessert wines, other than for its sweet wines from Sherry country including the highly revered Olorosos (when sweetened). But apart from Sherry Spain has a range of styles of dessert wines, ranging from the those made from the Pedro Ximenez grape primarily in Jerez and Montilla-Moriles) to luscious, red dessert wines made in the Mediterranean from the Garnacha (Grenache) grape. Some good Moscatels are made in Mallorca, Alicante and Navarre. The northwest corner of Spain, Galicia, with its bitter Atlantic climate, is even making dessert wines, called “Tostadillos” in the village of Ribadivia (similar to France’s “Vin de Paille”). The Canary Islands have made interesting dessert wines for centuries (they are mentioned by Shakespeare, for example) and in recent years the quality of winemaking has been improved and the Canary Islands wines are being better marketed now. The winemaking styles for “Vinos Dulces” are also diverse, from “Late Harvest” (Vendimia Tardía) to “Fortified Wines” (Fermentación Parcial). Based on in-spain.info.
