| Community Tasting Notes (average 89.8 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 20 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by nfurlong on 1/1/2023 & rated 90 points: deep garnet; black cherry and forest floor in the nose; loads of jammy black fruit, notably black currant and blackberries, soft tannins and decently long aftertaste. Still drinking strong! (242 views) | | Tasted by rjquillin on 5/31/2020: nice example of a 14 yo cab at a reasonable pirce (898 views) | | Tasted by nfurlong on 9/4/2019 & rated 90 points: dark garnet hue; pepper comes through on the nose; moderate tannins in a fairly closed black currant black cherry ganache. Needs awhile to open. Good acidic structure with plenty of fruit and a long black fruit / black pepper spice aftertaste. Of course, some of the pepper may be due to the liberally peppered steak I consumed with the wine. :-) (746 views) | | Tasted by Jefferyist on 3/9/2019: Earthy, mushroom smell. Vanilla and sweet up front on the taste Still quite tannic for a 13 year-old wine. Not much of a finish though. (884 views) | | Tasted by brubron on 5/4/2015: pretty straight forward, napa cab. fine for the price. (3555 views) | | Tasted by Baron Slick on 4/9/2015 & rated 91 points: Full, ruby appearance. Lovely bouquet of cherries, raspberries, and cedar over notes of leather, conifer, and mountain air. Tightly wound but resolves itself after an hour in the glass, offering a full body, plenty of red fruit, and flavors that toggle between youth and maturity. Exhibits grip and length on the green peppercorn finish. This is a serious effort. Decant or let it slumber a few more years. (3184 views) | | Tasted by ICaWineGuy on 7/2/2014 & rated 90 points: Just a really, really solid bottle of $20 cab. You can't go wrong with this one. Cork was saturated only up to 1/8 of an inch, with moisture up to 25% of the cork. I think this is good for a while. See previous notes. (4083 views) | | Tasted by ICaWineGuy on 3/6/2014 & rated 90 points: Excellently balanced, understated cab with wonderful black fruit tones, and a luscious palate of cassis, blackberry and a bit of vanilla. Nothing truly unusual, just a quite solid and well made Napa cab. Unlike other reviewers, my bottle had very soft tannins that suggested it was ready to drink, though I'm sure it will also hold up for several more years. Salud! Way too damned young!!!
Like licking a cherry flavored slab of slate, texture and all!
It is still quite good but WOW infanticide. (3244 views) | | Tasted by Ajrod27 on 4/17/2013 & rated 91 points: Cork was in near perfect condition; about 1/4 inch of seepage up the side of the cork. I did notice some sediment in the shoulder of the bottle; which is expected from a wine with age on it.
Color: Very deep ruby; nearly opaque at the core but clear at the edges. It doesn't have brilliant clarity, but a very clean look.
Nose: Some heat on the nose, which I haven't noticed before with Ardente. Blueberries, blackberries, green olive, cedar, earth, black pepper, vanilla and coffee. This is an aromatic wine, the aromas jump out of the glass; a very nice complex assortment of aromas!
Palate: Nice acidic attack up front; would definitely be food friendly. Medium-full bodied. Blackberry and plum on the mid-palate with grippy tannin. Blackberry, espresso and a touch of pepper on the finish. The finish lingers for 15-20 seconds which is very nice.
I drank this glass over the course of a hour and it only improved over time. The heat disappeared rather quickly, <10 minutes. Menthol and rose pedal started poking through at this time. As time passed, the aromas and flavors integrated and gave this wine a nice finesse. A solid value! (3170 views) |

Cabernet SauvignonCabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.
Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet SauvignonUSAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Napa Valley Napa Valley Wineries and Wine (Napa Valley Vintners)Atlas Peak Atlas Peak Appellation Association |
