Community Tasting Notes (average 89.5 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 35 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by pgb67 on 12/1/2016 & rated 90 points: Balanced and lively, with one foot in Sonoma (ripe peach and apple blossom) but showing elements of a French chard with some citrusy steely acidity. Holding up well. (2528 views)
Tasted by psundberg on 3/22/2016 & rated 90 points: RMAPOU'S tasting note described this Chard perfectly. Very nice and a good buy at $25. (2708 views)
Tasted by RMapou on 1/23/2015 & rated 88 points: Pear on the nose. Very crisp on the palette, with apple and lemon/lime flavors. Also minerality.. Over time, it showed subtle oak, but never showed the "typical" buttery California chardonnay qualities. Agree that it is more Burgundian. This was a gift. Usually do not buy chardonnay in this price range and was not sure what to expect. (3576 views)
Tasted by tjosb on 12/28/2014 & rated 90 points: Crisp, lots of oak and light on the butter. Lovely, mature. (3547 views)
Tasted by UpfromtheCellar on 9/27/2014 & rated 87 points: Sweet, BIG, Cali chard, with lots of toasty oak, vanilla, and a long finish. Served chilled it was clean, medium bodied, a little heavy on the palate but still a predictable glass of wine. I couldn't find as many acids (and any minerality whatsoever) as other reviews, still the wine was balanced and enjoyable so they must have done something right. (3884 views)
Tasted by StarM on 9/24/2014 & rated 91 points: I love this Chardonnay. Crisp, yet round. Not oaky buttery. Paired well with fried seafood plate and shrimp and grits. Drink now. (2178 views)
Tasted by candyman on 6/2/2014: great with grilled copper river salmon (1957 views)
Tasted by agrulich21 on 5/19/2014 & rated 93 points: A fantastic Chardonnay and a nice suprise. Ordered this bottle at dinner while staying at the Ritz Carlton in Aruba. Liked it so much we ordered a second bottle. Creamy vanilla, honey, and lemon flavors. Not overly oaky, and just a smooth and silky chardonnay that's delightful. (1417 views)
Tasted by pifcho on 3/20/2014 & rated 90 points: This would not have been my first choice off the wine list, but I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. Very balanced and restrained - dare I say Burgundian? Light oak, good freshness and nice weight on the palate without any unnecessary ripeness. Tasty. 89-91 (1671 views)
Tasted by pernety on 12/27/2013 & rated 79 points: Drink in Japan with yellow tale. (1623 views)
Tasted by isaacjamesbaker on 12/11/2013 & rated 89 points: Drank at Tabard Inn in DC. Similar to my notes in August. Tangy but nice and honeyed. (1682 views)
Tasted by MWMoore515 on 7/28/2013 & rated 92 points: Perfect blend of light city's and oak...no aftertaste! (1844 views)
Tasted by isaacjamesbaker on 7/14/2013 & rated 89 points: Fresh on the nose, with floral and lemon tones. Also some creamy pear and honeycomb. On the palate, a lush mouthfeel mixes with crisp acid and a distinct mineral edge. The lemon and lime flavors are zesty, but accented by complex notes of dried honey, hazelnut and spice — tarragon or something? The creaminess is limited, with only 30% of the wine undergoing maloactic fermentation, allowing the crisp lime and green apple to show. While this wine has some rich pear and nutty aspects from the oak aging, it maintains an elegant posture. (1535 views)
Tasted by JPH104 on 6/5/2013: I enjoyed the results from the cooler vintage with this wine. Restrained body, good acidity. Not complex but a nice departure from the typical RRV chard. (1353 views)

Chardonnay

The Chardonnay Grape

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
