Community Tasting Notes (average 88.8 pts. and median of 89 pts. in 47 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by aerosol on 6/26/2021 & rated 92 points: Got a glass here now and the nose is fragrant with dark fruit, flowery, and chocolate bar. The color is dark red and lacks sediment. The wine swirls around on the palate with a decent amount of fruit like black cherry, cassis, and good amount of chocolate. The finish get's lighter as the wine opens longer and there's a minimal amount of acid in the delicate, but short finish. All in all, it's not bad, and if you have a bottle, drink right away as this is in a closing window of opportunity. (776 views)
Tasted by gmaibach on 2/15/2020: At Owens with his famous pasta dish (936 views)
(1010 views)
(1068 views)

Tasted by Fire Bill on 11/7/2017 & rated 90 points: Great bottle in the $30 range. Dark color, dark red and purple fruit profile. Good structure and well balanced. Drink now (1393 views)
Tasted by Tahlequahdave1972 on 6/28/2017 & rated 92 points: I'm probably going against the flow when it comes to this wine, but this cabernet, I believe, was the last produced by Dick Arrowood at his namesake winery in Sonoma. The wine was aerated and decanted for an hour plus. Color was deep dark purple, almost black. The nose offered aromas of pepper, blackberry, plum and floral notes. A full mouth feel with cherry, boysenberry, raspberry, earth, vanilla and graphite on the palate. All elements came together after 30 minutes in the glass. Beautifully balanced with sufficient tannic structure, oak in the right measure and alcohol residing quietly in the background. This wine reminded me of the reserve bottlings from this producer that are made to age 20 years. Wonderful! Ready to drink. (1724 views)
Tasted by RayT on 6/10/2017: My wife drank this with friends. This was WOTN versus a 2013 Daou cabernet and 2012 Adelaida nonconformist. (1650 views)
Tasted by CPB on 3/5/2017: MIs marked (1335 views)
Tasted by TashNYC on 2/20/2016: Cellar clean-up. We drank this some time ago and it was great (1742 views)
Tasted by Randito on 7/20/2015 & rated 87 points: Just a simple Sonoma cab. Decent red fruit, a little structure with some integrated oak. (1933 views)
Tasted by Baron Slick on 6/22/2015 & rated 89 points: Bright and open knit in style, with floral and loamy aromas of cherries, raspberries, and red currants that turn darker on the palate. Carries good weight, solid structure, and a nice sandalwood middle. The medium finish is accented by wet stone minerality. Solid. (1681 views)
Tasted by Lipin on 12/4/2014 & rated 88 points: just ok. a bit too much oak. (1961 views)
Tasted by affordableCollector on 10/30/2014 & rated 89 points: dark red, in color. anise, blackberry, on the nose. blackberry, blueberry, plum, oak, green, on the palate. high acid, medium tannins, on the finish. (2214 views)
Tasted by SportstHER on 8/13/2014 & rated 88 points: Through the aerator into the glass for 45 minutes. In the glass: Deep magenta, long fat legs. On the nose: Initial hit of hot dusty minerals, liquorice, spice, softened to reveal a whiff of blueberry. In the mouth: Med. mouthfeel, good concentration of tart cherry, light dry tannins in the middle, a little tart & weenzy bitter on a buttery finish. Nice. Not too much fruit at the front, not too heavy as a cab. (1687 views)
Tasted by Delli on 5/31/2014 & rated 89 points: Ok at this price point but I'm unlikely to revisit. Purple and completely opaque. Nose of smoky chassis and muddled red fruit. The fruit dominates the palate that starts with uber ripe cherries and flashes to a raspberry finish that is accompanied by an unexpected (but appreciated) tannic minerality. As a re-read this note it's accurate (IMHO) but reads like the wine would be more interesting than it tasted. 5+12+15+7=89 (1244 views)
Tasted by cheetadad on 3/21/2014 & rated 88 points: Brick red - mild cassis nose. Fruit forward with mild tannins, a typical Sonoma cabernet. Decent not great. (1779 views)
Tasted by eldiabloazul on 3/21/2014 & rated 87 points: nice classic flavor profile...would buy again (1396 views)
Tasted by gromi on 12/29/2013 & rated 89 points: Enjoyed this wine. Smooth, on the lighter side and ready to drink. Will buy a few more bottles. (1753 views)
Tasted by rhanke on 12/6/2013 & rated 90 points: One of the better Sonoma Cabs I have had. I usually find them a little green but this did not have any herbal notes. (1711 views)
Tasted by Oakjeff on 12/4/2013 & rated 89 points: Good, sturdy Cab. Very dusty. Good tannic structure.

Drink now thru mid-late 2017. (1291 views)
Tasted by La Cave d'Argent on 9/29/2013 & rated 89 points: Deep-to-opaque ruby, this wine's color belies its approachability. It delivers a graceful mix of red currants, tree bark, clove and vanilla on both the nose and palate. Medium-bodied, round and softly tannic on the palate, it deftly integrates its alcohol (listed as 14.5%) so that the fruit remains in the forefront. Solid in the middle and medium-length on the finish, this is a well-priced Cabernet which will bring pleasure to newbies as well as to oenophiles. Drink now-2018. (1333 views)
Tasted by tautlinehitch on 9/21/2013 & rated 91 points: Tasted at the winery. Nose of strawberry, oak leaves, cedar. On the palate, great balance. Strawberry, herbes de Provence. Complex, beautifully integrated. Pretty awesome. (984 views)
Tasted by rjonwine@gmail.com on 8/30/2013 & rated 90 points: Very dark red violet color; focused, tart black currant, tart berry, black fruit nose; tight, tart black currant, tart berry, light cedar palate; needs 1-plus year; medium-plus finish (95% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Malbec, 2% Petit Verdot) (561 views)

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
