Community Tasting Notes (average 92.5 pts. and median of 93 pts. in 18 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Mag357 on 12/2/2023: Sensational wine, fresh and vibrant, very complex layers of yellow fruits, citrus, oyster shell notes, mushrooms, ending in a powerful finish. I loved it, amazing at this age. (306 views)
Tasted by hprphf on 11/16/2023 & rated 92 points: Premier Cru Table (The Fifth Avenue Hotel): Slightly advanced, more evident on the palate. Nose shows aged character with some dirt; seems consistent in this vintage chez Raveneau. 92 (475 views)
Tasted by fclarity on 5/21/2023 & rated 96 points: Three 96 Rav Grand Crus mano a mano. All of these bottles looked solid with yellow centers and clear rims.

The Blanchot clearly had the most expressive nose which is not uncommon. It became high- intensity with green apple, honeysuckle, citrus, and white stone notes.

As usual, it is not as powerful in the mouth as the other two but was still lovely nonetheless. It had crisp acidity, great balance, and excellent length.

While this is starting to drink now, it will be better in 5-10 years. (407 views)
Tasted by fcxj on 9/23/2021 & rated 82 points: Advanced, very tired. (708 views)
Tasted by fatboi on 2/20/2021 & rated 95 points: This bottle was the best of the bunch. It had the shed the the fat I've mentioned before and showed more depth and character. The oyster shell and minerality not as in your face but had a long finish. Really enjoyed this and kept getting better. 95
WOTN out of line of 01 Ausone and 08 Dujac CDLR (736 views)
Tasted by Force5 on 12/31/2020: Strict, monolithic. This wine is 25 years old and the color is still greenish when poured, smells and tastes more like something on release. Doesn't really budge with couple of hours of air. Interesting wine. (429 views)
Tasted by Alex G. on 1/20/2020: 96 white Burgundy tends to be either incredible or terrible, happily this was the former. Dense, chewy, packed and stacked. This was a stellar performance, even by Raveneau standards. Hours in the glass, kept improving. Bravo! (708 views)
Tasted by fatboi on 10/8/2019: limey bottle.. did not improved. maybe ox. (777 views)
Tasted by fatboi on 8/30/2019 & rated 93 points: Best bottle out of the three I've opened so far. still a flashier , fattier bottle in comparison to 1996 Valmur but far more complex and textured in comparison to the other one's I've opened from this batch. The minerality and oyster shells is present just not as laser like. hints of pineapple and apples to me. some preferred the 09 foret which showed very well. (725 views)
Tasted by fatboi on 4/17/2019 & rated 91 points: Wine is in good shape but isn't showing the depth and precision I have found in both 96 Valmur and clos. A bit rounder but still a very enjoyable wine in my opinion. Showing its age well. Ian found it a bit too simple which I found to be harsh. 91 (713 views)
Tasted by -E- on 6/19/2013 & rated 95 points: Raveneau vs Dauvissat (Oslo): (3t åpen flaske) Klar, lett gyllen strågul. (3513 views)
Tasted by lepetitchateau on 6/1/2013 & rated 95 points: Brilliant wine, just now at a point of maturity. wow... (2473 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 2/2/2013 & rated 93 points: Great Wine Dinner with Friends and Wagyu (Western Chicago IL Suburbs): Popped and poured, this was still slightly reductive. Lots of apple aromas and pears on nose and palate. Long, dense and powerful, this will be better 10 years form now than it was tonight. (3400 views)
Tasted by bongos on 1/28/2013: Absolutely killer. Super rich for chablis, but this had a beautiful range of yellow and green fruits, notes of honey, roasted almonds, and truffle. Super complex and complete. (2510 views)
Tasted by dream on 12/17/2012 & rated 93 points: This wine was really reticent at first on the nose and palate. After a good 2 hours open, it began to blossom and show flavors of sweet corn, limestone and some tropical fruits all balanced by still bracing acidity. As it opened, it developed a more creamy texture and the finish revealed complex notes of sea shells and minerals. Delicious but still young and the balance suggests it will still improve. In fact, if this holds it's shape, it could be a stunning long-term ager. 93+ (2419 views)
Tasted by Les Clos on 2/14/2011 flawed bottle: Jammer had ligt kurk maar blijft een mooie wijn (1331 views)
Tasted by BradE on 9/9/2009: Very good shape. Nice nose, a good mid-palate, and a strong finish that iinterestingly was non-Chablis like. (1358 views)
Tasted by andrewstevenson.com on 6/10/2008 & rated 93 points: A distinctly lemony nose with lots of chalky minerality, and overall much leaner than the 1992. Lovely palate. Again more austere than the 1992 with greater minerality. There's a lovely fresh grapefruity feel to the fruit. (4630 views)

Blanchot

Les Blanchots

Blanchot is faces more towards the east. It is a cooler exposure benefiting from the morning sun, but losing the advantage as the day progresses. Hence it can ripen 5 to 6 days later then the sunnier climats. There is not so much limestone in this climat. There is rather more clay, which becomes pebbly at the bottom. In style it can be quite ‘tender’. I find it a bit like Bouchères in Meursault; get it right and you have something full, light and lacy, but it can easily lose definition. It can be very expressive, but lacks the steely backbone of the better grand cru and as such rates in the third rank. It matures more quickly – a good choice in restaurants, where the vintages are always too young. It is a similar size as the previous grand cru 12.8 hectares, which are cultivated by fewer than 20 producers.

Burgundy

Les vins de Bourgogne (Bureau interprofessionnel des vins de Bourgogne) (and in English)

Burgundy - The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Cote d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Cote de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Cote de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Cote d'Or. Also included by some are the regions of Chablis and Auxerrois, farther north.

# 2013 Vintage Notes:
* "2013 is a vintage that 20 years ago would have been a disaster." - Will Lyons
* "low yields and highly variable reds, much better whites." - Bill Nanson
* "Virtually all wines were chaptalised, with a bit of sugar added before fermentation to increase the final alcohol level." - Jancis Robinson

# 2014 Vintage Notes:
"We have not had such splendid harvest weather for many years. This will ensure high quality (fragrant, classy and succulent are words already being used) across the board, up and down the hierarchy and well as consistently from south to north geographically apart from those vineyards ravaged by the hail at the end of June." - Clive Coates

# 2015 Vintage Notes:
"Low yields and warm weather allowed for ample ripeness, small berries and an early harvest. Quality is looking extremely fine, with some people whispering comparisons with the outstanding 2005 vintage. Acid levels in individual wines may be crucial." - Jancis Robinson

# 2017 Vintage Notes:
"Chablis suffered greatly from frost in 2017, resulting in very reduced volumes. As ever, the irony seems to be that what remains is very good quality, as it is in the Côte d’Or. Cooler nights across the region have resulted in higher-than-usual acidity, with good conditions throughout the harvest season allowing for ripe, healthy fruit." - Jancis Robinson

# 2018 Vintage Notes:
"The most successful region for red Burgundy in 2018 was the Côte de Beaune. The weather was ideal in this area, with just enough sunlight and rain to produce perfectly balanced wines naturally." - Vinfolio

Chablis

Chablis (Fédération de Défense de l'Appellation Chablis) | Chablis (Burgundy Wines)

2014 Vintage Notes:
"... a hybrid of 2004/2007 and 2010. The stone, citrus and limestone amalgam is exactly what we search for in Chablis as the style harkens to a day in the Cote de Beaune proper (1960's - 1980's) when wine was not meant to be consumed the week it was released, battonage was not used by all and new oak was rarely seen ... the texture is natural and 'of the vintage' not 'of the winemaker' .... Like Sancerre or the Loire in general, 2014 in Chablis is one of those rare years with extract and transparency. It appears to be a vintage for the "neoclassic" ages and those of us intent on cellaring the most terroir-driven (but still powerful) examples of vineyard, site-place and varietal will want to invest (heavily) in the magnetic and electric 2014's." - Jon Rimmerman

2018 Vintage Notes:
"There’s not that razor sharp Chablis acidity in 2018,” says Patrick Piuze. “But there is good definition of place. The dry conditions drove vines to drink deeper down in the soil profile."
