Creamy, rich, the vintage speaks, bees wax ere, citrus, minerals, yet it is a broad wine, and while very good, not up there with the best vintages of this cuvee. #ChapoutierParty#Tain (941 views) | | Tasted by Jeff W on 10/11/2015: For those of us who like our white wines with attitude, this is one. No light and pretty shrinking violet, this is a heavyweight with power and length. Lovely silky texture of bitter-sweet orange. Perhaps it's more back street bare knuckle bruiser than sophisticate, but how pleasing to have such a good Northern Rhone white (and it could not come from anywhere else in the world) from a "lesser" appellation. Another decade in this, at least. vg+ (1738 views) | | Tasted by Jeff W on 9/7/2008: Decanted. Vibrant nose of honey and peach. Full-on Marsanne, dominated by bitter-tonic, dry and quite mineral. vg- (2835 views) | | Tasted by king-bing on 7/29/2008: RJ nakedish offline (Rotisserie Jules, South Kensington, London): Mid-gold colour. Nose of caramel, and dusty, then an off-putting 'bicycle repair kit' nose that persists for some hours. Very silky palate. though lacks definition - rather blowsy. Not for me. (3365 views) | | Tasted by DAN BAILEY on 2/21/2007 & rated 93 points: Finally this wine showed what it was capable of! Double decanted and served about 90 minutes later. Much deeper colour than the viognier that preceded it. Lovely nose of honeysuckle and peaches. Perfectly balanced wine giving everything it had. A real pleasure. (3168 views) | | Tasted by DAN BAILEY on 12/31/2006 & rated 80 points: Opened and decanted then left for 2 hours. Drank the first half over 4 hours. Exasperating wine. Intoxicating, complex nose of sweet honey, pears and lychees. However, this stuff just doesn't work for me at all in the mouth. Tastes like soapy dishwater. Will try treating this like some of the condrieus: i.e. open and decant and let it breathe for 3-4 days. (2919 views) | | Tasted by DAN BAILEY on 12/28/2006 & rated 89 points: Lacking the sharpness and wonderful minerality of the 96. A little disappointing overall. (2203 views) |

The Rhône Valley/Le Vins de la Vallée du Rhône (Comité Interprofession des vins AOC Côtes et vallée du Rhône)
Regional History: Phocaean Greeks established viticulture in the Rhone as far back as 600 BC, but until the 14th century the wines were not seen outside the region. The establishment of the Avignonese Papacy (1305-1377) brought fame to the region's wine-so much so that their Burgundian neighbors to the north banned wines from the Rhone in 1446, a measure that effectively cut off trade with England and other Northern European markets for over 200 years. Stretching southward from Lyon to just south of Avignon, the Rhone produces a wide variety of wines, with the appellations north of Valence producing the least (in volume), and the towns south of Montelimar producing prodigious amounts. As in other regions, the most interesting wines come from small farms. Saint-Joseph, in the northern Rhone, extends for some distance between Condrieu in the north to Saint-Peray in the south. The reds are made from Syrah and the rare whites from Marsanne and Roussanne, and Viognier.
