Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 91.7 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 37 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by tobyc on 4/12/2024 & rated 91 points: Dusty golden. Intense and slightly reductive bouquet with some grassy and flowery elements. Precise and sharp palate with acidic bite and minerality with fennel under the red grapefruits and yellow citrus and a chalky dusty finish. (239 views)
Tasted by MJReb on 10/13/2023 & rated 92 points: Pale yellow with green reflections. On the nose some citrus. On the palate white orchard fruit, again citrus (lemon and fresh orange). Overall pretty straightforward, drinking well, but needs another 2-3 years to be fully in its drinking window. (403 views)
Tasted by Collector1855 on 11/5/2022 & rated 90 points: During a 2012 Burgundy blind tasting dinner. Overall the vintage showed quite tannic still and with a wide dispersion between the top names and lesser known Domains. Definitely drink the 2013 and 2014 before the 2012 and stick to quality producers. TN: Very watery wine on a first sip, then complex lemon, mineral, oak spice aromas on the finish pointing to good quality. Palate 88 Aromas 92 (1311 views)
Tasted by Tejassathian on 11/5/2022 & rated 94 points: Showed absolutely beautifully. I was expecting something a little bit aged and rich - but it was wonderfully youthful yet well developed. Rich on the nose (butterscotch, cream) yet saline and nervy on the palate, with citrus and rich apple. Unmistakably Chablis made in the Dauvissat style. (903 views)
Tasted by englishman's claret on 4/4/2021 & rated 93 points: After taking a few minutes to wake up, the 12 Dauvissat Séchet really shows a lovely, mature nose, so typically Chablis with its marine notes (which here meld typical oyster with a slightly umami, seaweed note) and Meyer lemon. Really beautiful and probably at its apogee already. (2780 views)
Tasted by llink on 12/14/2020 & rated 92 points: Popped and poured. White orchard fruit, lemon rind and a broth-like “earthy” element. Mineral and stony with a rich lemony texture, moderate acid and a lingering finish. Like the Vaillons 2 weeks ago, this is in a great spot. Like the 12 PCs from Dauvissat. (1814 views)
Tasted by jmoon on 10/29/2020 & rated 93 points: Just so good. Clean pure long and beautiful clean fresh fruit and well judged acids. Classic Chablis shells and lemon. Great from first pour. (1861 views)
Tasted by Juliapauline on 9/24/2020 & rated 89 points: It’s nice but a bit harsh and short finish - green pepper (1420 views)
Tasted by AJ72 on 8/21/2020 & rated 91 points: Initial impression. Great bottle! Barely any colour change just a lovely light straw no gold at all. Still very backward but showing a touch of the sea shell, mineral coming through. Quite shy, reticent at this early stage still tense and edgy, really promising. At 30 minutes in just starting to blossom, shifting through the gears, showing a great deal of class. Very elegant. This is good after starting off quite raw and lean, really hitting its straps now. Raveneau always a bit richer than Dauvissat and I find it hard to pick which one I prefer. Both show the best of Chablis without doubt. Maybe Raveneau by a nose but I wouldn't complain receiving either. If you're after a fat and rich style then this isn't for you. Never really filled out as much as I hoped it would but was still very good. Definitely a leaner style even for a Chablis. Touch of phenolic too without that bit of richness and the flavour to match it. A bit more time certainly wouldn't hurt but not sure if it will pick up the weight. (1582 views)
Tasted by Cote d'Or on 5/28/2020: Tasted over 2 hrs
-translucent light gold
-faint reduction sour lemon
-med+ acidity, med/med- weight, super intense sappy if somewhat diffuse lemon mineral with faint spice, great length
-excellent on its prime drinking plateau (1258 views)
Tasted by diggydan on 5/15/2020 & rated 93 points: Quite a reductive nose (no decant) but a damn fine taste. Big and ripe feeling but all about seashell minerality and lemony acidity. Great, long finish. $61 to go from CDC's shelter stash. (1218 views)
Tasted by Neecies on 2/16/2020: Dull, fading. (1407 views)
Tasted by Cote d'Or on 12/6/2019: Tasted over 3 hrs
-translucent med gold
-subtle but unmistakably Chablis
-med+ acidity, med weight intensely sappy fading citrus saline with the faintest of oxidative notes, good length
-trademark Dauvissat intensity and Sechet's lemony profile, squarely on its mature plateau (1330 views)
 Tasted by PC73 on 5/29/2019 & rated 91 points: 2012 dauvissat 1er sechet

Reminds me of a warm summers day by the sea side. Salty elements on the nose. Touch of sweetness against oyster shells. Real tension and intensity on the palate. Great balance between fruit and acidity. Long. Lovely salty finish. (1501 views)
Tasted by rocknroller on 10/4/2018 & rated 92 points: A Whiter Shade of Pale: Featuring Killer Chablis (Martina, Mpls): Light greenish gold color. Drank a glass over 45 minutes. The final part of the Dauvissat 1er trio tonight ('10 Vaillons, '14 La Forest). This is also excellent, a little softer on the palate, still with good brine, lean and tart, lemon-lime sweet tarts. 92+pts. (2180 views)
Tasted by WoodieBayArea on 8/4/2018 & rated 92 points: very nice effort, on the nice side of chablis with minerals, acidity and bright fruit, but also a tiny bit of roundness (or?) sweetness to provide some love... both my son and my wife made mention of how much they liked this one... (1729 views)
Tasted by Neecies on 7/17/2018: Getting quite rich. The flint remains in the background but the steel and acidity are obscured by the baked apple and brown butter flavors of a maturing wine. Fantastic with garlic toast. (1690 views)
Tasted by rocknroller on 3/15/2018 & rated 93 points: French WTDS at Bellecour (Bellecour, Mpls, MN): Light gold color. PNP, drank 1 glass over an hour. I'm with dcwino on this one. This is darn good. There is great green apple, lime, and yellow citrus here, with a deceptively sweet note to the fruit. But the palate has tons of dry extract and intensity, nice purity, saline, and great limestone minerality. Love it. (2340 views)
Tasted by conviction buy on 9/6/2017 & rated 91 points: Pale golden, lemon and orange peel, hint of floral elements too. Fairly concentrated on palate, mineral driven almost bitter, very elegant but needs more cellar time. IMHO, one of the best Domain in Chablis. (2171 views)
Tasted by Neecies on 8/5/2017 & rated 91 points: Initial before-dinner pour (wherein we switched to a Bordeaux) seemed teetering on the edge of oxidation, but when we came back to it after dinner that had blown off. Very dry and minerally with notes of lemon, lettuce, flint and chalk dust. (2054 views)
Tasted by Neecies on 3/24/2017 & rated 87 points: A bit dull! Not bad, just lacks excitement on the level I expect from Vincent Dauvissat. (2244 views)
Tasted by Neecies on 12/12/2016: Classic steel and flint. Showed best after a one hour decant. (2461 views)
Tasted by WoodieBayArea on 10/9/2016 & rated 89 points: decent but not up to expectations, rounded out a fair bit, a little dull (not boring, rather dull in the sense of no grip / bite), could have done with more acid and/or citrus fruit to balance the roundness (2447 views)
Tasted by tooch on 9/23/2016: A bit reticent and tight. Holding my remaining bottle for a while I guess. (2705 views)
Tasted by WoodieBayArea on 5/7/2016 & rated 91 points: very very good, had enough acid and citrus to please me, and nonetheless was enjoyed by the folks who normally enjoy Cali chards, some roundness and some sweetness even at this young age, but just enough to satisfy and not so much as to suggest it is "overdone" or soft/flabby (2330 views)

Burgundy

Les vins de Bourgogne (Bureau interprofessionnel des vins de Bourgogne) (and in English)

Burgundy - The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Cote d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Cote de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Cote de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Cote d'Or. Also included by some are the regions of Chablis and Auxerrois, farther north.

# 2013 Vintage Notes:
* "2013 is a vintage that 20 years ago would have been a disaster." - Will Lyons
* "low yields and highly variable reds, much better whites." - Bill Nanson
* "Virtually all wines were chaptalised, with a bit of sugar added before fermentation to increase the final alcohol level." - Jancis Robinson

# 2014 Vintage Notes:
"We have not had such splendid harvest weather for many years. This will ensure high quality (fragrant, classy and succulent are words already being used) across the board, up and down the hierarchy and well as consistently from south to north geographically apart from those vineyards ravaged by the hail at the end of June." - Clive Coates

# 2015 Vintage Notes:
"Low yields and warm weather allowed for ample ripeness, small berries and an early harvest. Quality is looking extremely fine, with some people whispering comparisons with the outstanding 2005 vintage. Acid levels in individual wines may be crucial." - Jancis Robinson

# 2017 Vintage Notes:
"Chablis suffered greatly from frost in 2017, resulting in very reduced volumes. As ever, the irony seems to be that what remains is very good quality, as it is in the Côte d’Or. Cooler nights across the region have resulted in higher-than-usual acidity, with good conditions throughout the harvest season allowing for ripe, healthy fruit." - Jancis Robinson

# 2018 Vintage Notes:
"The most successful region for red Burgundy in 2018 was the Côte de Beaune. The weather was ideal in this area, with just enough sunlight and rain to produce perfectly balanced wines naturally." - Vinfolio

Chablis

Chablis (Fédération de Défense de l'Appellation Chablis) | Chablis (Burgundy Wines)

2014 Vintage Notes:
"... a hybrid of 2004/2007 and 2010. The stone, citrus and limestone amalgam is exactly what we search for in Chablis as the style harkens to a day in the Cote de Beaune proper (1960's - 1980's) when wine was not meant to be consumed the week it was released, battonage was not used by all and new oak was rarely seen ... the texture is natural and 'of the vintage' not 'of the winemaker' .... Like Sancerre or the Loire in general, 2014 in Chablis is one of those rare years with extract and transparency. It appears to be a vintage for the "neoclassic" ages and those of us intent on cellaring the most terroir-driven (but still powerful) examples of vineyard, site-place and varietal will want to invest (heavily) in the magnetic and electric 2014's." - Jon Rimmerman

2018 Vintage Notes:
"There’s not that razor sharp Chablis acidity in 2018,” says Patrick Piuze. “But there is good definition of place. The dry conditions drove vines to drink deeper down in the soil profile."
