Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 93 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 6 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by FransS on 10/13/2016: You can still find cartons of this wine at auctions. Blind tasted you can think it is a medium dry and golden coloured sherry of certain age; nutty and agreeable. It is however a chassagne, so clinically dead. (821 views)
Tasted by awinestory on 9/23/2016 & rated 90 points: Deep gold color ... Zachy auction lunch celebrating an office move (and bought from Zachy).

A girl who happened to be at my table was born in 1992 so shared with her and her friends.

Deep gold. Aromas of white flowers and apples in storage. Minerality. Very well balanced. long finish. Some vanilla notes from oak. slight caramel flavors. (908 views)
Tasted by WoodieBayArea on 9/16/2016 flawed bottle: clearly oxidized on the opening (dark and offputting caramel/smoke/other on the palate), decanted for a couple hours and it was a little better with some acidity coming forward at least, but - while not totally untasteable, this wine was goners (768 views)
Tasted by awinestory on 8/22/2011 & rated 91 points: color ... very deep intense saturated gold, tears med to form and fall, fades gradullay to clear rim, no gas no bubbles no setiment
nose: med+ intensity, very sharp Meursault-like sense of rich melted butter, intense stone like minerality, a butter ripeness ... fruit comes across as very ripe peach more than apple
palate: dry, acidity racing and very mineral, tannin low, body med to med+ alc est 13.5, finish med+ ... very very long counting more than 40 seconds of ripe sugary fruit and minerals ...

style note: Extremely intense wine with razor sharp acidity yet full lush ripeness and, why dry, a perception of residual sugar. One senses a caramelized pear .... this wine can pair well with any carmamelized dish, such as seared scallops in butter (1892 views)
Tasted by awinestory on 6/5/2011 & rated 98 points: color - med heavy gold, buttery core and wite miniscus
nose: med+ intense butter, minerals, spice, golden ripe apples
palate: med+ intensity, acid is med+/high very intense, tannin zero (oak) body med+ alc est 13.5 finish med +

Style: Intense pulse of acidity and delicious nose of butter, ripe sauteed apples, and oak, all very well and seemlessly integrated. Seems like barrel fermentation from the integration. Delicous after 20 years! (2047 views)
Tasted by Tiger on 12/19/2009 & rated 93 points: Just getting a little old. Nose very light but lots of flavor. (1528 views)

Michel Colin-Deléger et Fils

Philippe Colin was quite happy with the Domaine's wines in 99, calling them ripe yet elegant with medium-term aging potential. He also suggested that because of the ample baby fat and good but not elevated acidity levels they will likely drink well all their lives. Because of the ample grape sugars, chaptalization was held to a minimum, which is to say less than half a degree for most wines. The wines saw 20 to 30% new oak and were bottled just before the harvest in August. I tasted them in February.
As is usually the case, the 99s of Domaine Colin-Deleger are elegant wines with an emphasis on finesse and detail. They are not especially dense or powerful and subscribers who favor white Burgundies that make an emphatic statement may find this set of 99s, when considered as a group, to be on the subtle side. That said, several of the wines are incredible and fully merit a place in every serious cellar.
Trivia buffs take note: there is normally a noticeable difference between the Clos St. Abdon Les Demoiselles and the Colin-Deleger version but in 99, the wines were blended and thus, there is no difference. Since the Clos St. Abdon version normally sells at a 20 to 30% discount to the Colin version, one can save a few a bucks by buying the Clos St. Abdon in 99.

Burgundy

Les vins de Bourgogne (Bureau interprofessionnel des vins de Bourgogne) (and in English)

Burgundy - The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Cote d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Cote de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Cote de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Cote d'Or. Also included by some are the regions of Chablis and Auxerrois, farther north.

# 2013 Vintage Notes:
* "2013 is a vintage that 20 years ago would have been a disaster." - Will Lyons
* "low yields and highly variable reds, much better whites." - Bill Nanson
* "Virtually all wines were chaptalised, with a bit of sugar added before fermentation to increase the final alcohol level." - Jancis Robinson

# 2014 Vintage Notes:
"We have not had such splendid harvest weather for many years. This will ensure high quality (fragrant, classy and succulent are words already being used) across the board, up and down the hierarchy and well as consistently from south to north geographically apart from those vineyards ravaged by the hail at the end of June." - Clive Coates

# 2015 Vintage Notes:
"Low yields and warm weather allowed for ample ripeness, small berries and an early harvest. Quality is looking extremely fine, with some people whispering comparisons with the outstanding 2005 vintage. Acid levels in individual wines may be crucial." - Jancis Robinson

# 2017 Vintage Notes:
"Chablis suffered greatly from frost in 2017, resulting in very reduced volumes. As ever, the irony seems to be that what remains is very good quality, as it is in the Côte d’Or. Cooler nights across the region have resulted in higher-than-usual acidity, with good conditions throughout the harvest season allowing for ripe, healthy fruit." - Jancis Robinson

# 2018 Vintage Notes:
"The most successful region for red Burgundy in 2018 was the Côte de Beaune. The weather was ideal in this area, with just enough sunlight and rain to produce perfectly balanced wines naturally." - Vinfolio
