Tasted by rocknroller on 6/27/2021: Monthly Tasting Group: Bordeaux and Cabs 2009 and Older (Chez Dalluge, MN): This popped up late in the night, a nicely aged wine that still has something to give. Just a taste and it didn't leave much of an impression which may be unfair. Had this last 6 years ago, and my impression was that it's hanging in there. (1449 views)
Tasted by Sanlucar on 11/19/2020 & rated 90 points: Consumed 2 bottles this week. Now 26 years old, it was no surprise that this once fine Napa Cab was past its prime, but it still had really nice cassis fruit, and hearty cedar & cigar / spice box aromas, so it is in a phase of graceful degradation. Ten years ago, this true Bordeaux-blend (the five grape varieties) greatly impressed me and I will buy their recent vintages without hesitation. The Andrus family should be proud of this strong effort. (1214 views)
Tasted by Dave Dalluge on 4/25/2015 & rated 90 points: Same bottle as Rock and Roller, and I agree with his note. This was nice for what it is, but was totally outclassed by the other wines opened that night. (2878 views)
Tasted by rocknroller on 4/23/2015 & rated 90 points: A Decadent Night of 1990's Napa Cabs and Bordeaux (Chez Dalluge, MN): Very dark red/purple color. PNP, drank 1 glass over 4 hours plus. Lots of vanillin with plenty of dense black fruits, and some cedarwood. The palate is pretty chewy, full bodied, black fruits, not well defined, vanilla, cedar, sour fruit, firm slightly grippy tannins. Feels really young despite its 20+ years. I don't think this will get better, drink now. (3521 views)
Tasted by magic2coop on 12/22/2014 & rated 90 points: Hitting the end. Dried cherry and slight earth finish quickly. (2726 views)
Tasted by jbehrendt on 4/10/2010 & rated 90 points: Drank my last bottle (6 purchased 12 years ago in 1998). A bit worried as the previous bottle we drank about 2 years ago seemed past its prime. This was delicious. Still some fruit; and nice and deep taste. Served with leg of lamb for Easter dinner with the family. Decanted for about an hour and it still improved in the glass. (4265 views)
Tasted by Dave Dalluge on 12/3/2009: No notes taken. Served with an odd duo of food -- Clam Chowder and wedge salad, both from Keller's new book. First bottle of the '94 that I've tasted, and I was quite impressed. Nose gives dark fruit with oak/vanilla that is well integrated and complimentary. The taste was smooth and flavorful. This wine proved to be the unanimous favorite of the night. (4373 views)
Tasted by gmbdds on 5/3/2009 & rated 92 points: Decanted. This wine still had a dark color with no signs of bricking. Plenty of primary fruit still going strong. More mature flavors such as spiced fruit and black pepper give depth. This was a beautiful and elegant wine yet had power. Plenty of life left if you feel like waiting. (3224 views)
Tasted by Cellared on 7/6/2007 & rated 93 points: perfect time to drink , lots of fruit tannins refined. still had some time left. dinner with salmon and veggies , although not the best pairing still worked fine wish i had more. (3703 views)
Tasted by JBVino on 5/8/2007: Opened with 94 Opus, Mondavi Reserve, Pahlmeyer (corked)....Andrus stole the show...both Opus and Mondavi had noticable alcohol and a bit over rip (although Opus got significantly better with air)...Andrus had old world acidity, complexity and solid fruit...enjoyable (3451 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 10/14/2004 & rated 92 points: Subtle fresh black cherry and currant aromas. Elegant ripe black cherry on palate with cocoa, also still fresh with trace hints of evolving development. Excellent long finish. Has a long life going forward. (1150 views)

Red Bordeaux Blend

Red Bordeaux is generally made from a blend of grapes. Permitted grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and rarely Carménère.Today Carménère is rarely used, with Château Clerc Milon, a fifth growth Bordeaux, being one of the few to still retain Carménère vines. As of July 2019, Bordeaux wineries authorized the use of four new red grapes to combat temperature increases in Bordeaux. These newly approved grapes are Marselan, Touriga Nacional, Castets, and Arinarnoa.

Wineries all over the world aspire to making wines in a Bordeaux style. In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify wines made in this way. Although most Meritage wines come from California, there are members of the Meritage Association in 18 states and five other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Israel, and Mexico.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
