Community Tasting Notes (average 88.7 pts. and median of 89 pts. in 25 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Oenecnist on 4/28/2018: Bought on closeout from a local retailer 12-14 years ago for 15. Decanted with heavy sediment. Beautiful color; fragrant, persistent red fruit nose and body with excellent mouthfeel; good finish. Rated a "yum!" from me. Stored horizontally in a cool, dark basement since purchase. My evaluation: I've stopped giving scores on a "100-point scale" as I've become less convinced that they can be meaningful to others. I use a 4-category scale (perhaps with +/-)--not including flawed--which runs outstanding/notable/drinkable/poor. I consider this outstanding- when considering quality, age, and price. (935 views)
Tasted by Wade100 on 7/26/2016 & rated 88 points: I agree with previous comments - still drinking nicely with good fruit although I wouldn't leave it much linger (1756 views)
Tasted by sharonandroland on 12/20/2015 & rated 90 points: Holding up surprisingly well
Lots of fruit left
Slightly drying tannins (2015 views)
Tasted by calgarywino on 9/21/2014 & rated 91 points: Caught off guard by this wine. out of the gate ir was very muted both in nose and tase. After an hour it really startedn to show nicely. Some oak and fruit on the nose and followed on the palate. Surprisingly it was even better the second night. Really wouldn't have expected this to live so long but very enjoyable. (2534 views)
Tasted by Rustica on 3/29/2013 & rated 85 points: Normally we love Chateau Reynella, but this had an odd funk and strange taste. Very likely we kept it too long...what a disappointment. Will make sure to drink these sooner next time as they normally are wonderful. (3385 views)
Tasted by sharonandroland on 7/28/2012 & rated 90 points: Still full of fruit, but starting age nicely. (3180 views)
Tasted by sharonandroland on 10/23/2011 & rated 92 points: Plum and blueberry. But now a lot of secondary characters - smoke, tar, spices, sandalwood. Wonderful stuff. (3124 views)
Tasted by 309VEB on 6/22/2009 & rated 85 points: This wine has aged nicely but I believe it is passed its peak. Very smooth but little nose and virtually no length to the finish. I did not notice any crystals on the cork but the bottle threw a lot of sediment. I now plan to consume my remaining bottles this year. (3568 views)
Tasted by Al-Vino on 4/27/2009 flawed bottle: Another flawed bottle! Crystals on base of cork made this wine undrinkable! (3319 views)
Tasted by chris_3 on 1/3/2009 & rated 85 points: Nicely aged well rounded plenty of flavor. Typical Australian shiraz bursting with fruit but somewhat softened with age. Thoroughly enjoyed despite the crystals on the base of the cork. (2626 views)
Tasted by Al-Vino on 1/1/2009 flawed bottle: Crystals formed on base of cork. Too Bad - last bottle was very good! (2649 views)
Tasted by Al-Vino on 11/14/2008 & rated 91 points: Very good wine for the $. Starting to hit peak but will likely last 4 to 5 more years before heading south. (2494 views)
Tasted by Arch57 on 7/21/2007 & rated 93 points: Excellent Aussie Shiraz, I agree with cmheather that this was full of fruit (boysenberry, blackberry) without overpowering. The wine blended the fruit, oak, spices in a complex package that was a pleasure to enjoy with each sip. Most of my Aussie Shiraz experience has been in the $15 range with young wines and it was a nice surprise to taste a better bottle with a few years of cellaring. Time to start adding some more mid to high end Shiraz to the cellar. (3186 views)
Tasted by cmheather on 5/20/2007 & rated 93 points: Big, full, soft and round. Lots of fruit but not jammy, soft tannins and a lovely finish. Well worth the wait! Great with slow-roasted pork shoulder with fennel and garlic. (2996 views)
Tasted by pontac on 12/9/2006 & rated 84 points: VWTC - Christmas Tasting (Verulam Wine Tasting Club - St Albans www.vwtc.org): Opaque black, lovely sweet spicy smell on opening but unfortuntely this wasn't followeed through on palate where rwhere were medicinal cough mixture flavours. There was fruit and acidity but they didn't seem integrated, wine seemed to seesaw from one to other.I was dissappointed. Prsented by Joyce M. (One of the bottles was corked) (3774 views)
Tasted by GARDEN on 11/23/2006 & rated 89 points: Drank before Thanksgiving dinner. Michelle and Kely liked this. (3738 views)
Tasted by Ben Andersen on 6/14/2005: $70 restaurant price. No formal note. Tasted side by side with the '00 Clape Cotes du Rhone and the '00 Qupe B.N. Syrah (see TNs). This was the most fruited, oaked, and, not surprisingly, my least favorite of the three. I should add that although I preferred the '00 Clape by a wide margin, several others in the group liked the Reynella best... For me, the '01 Reynella had typical, soft and slightly overripe fruit, moderately excessive oak, and little structure. (4370 views)
Tasted by futronic on 4/16/2005 & rated 90 points: Dark garnet/purple colour; opaque. Aromas of vanilla, blackcurrant, raspberry, oak, pepper. Full-bodied, lush, oaky wine with notes of vanilla, blackcurrant, cassis, black plums, pepper. Moderate-long finish, 35-40s, with black fruit, vanilla. Will be better in 3-4 years. (3290 views)
Tasted by Winetex on 1/5/2005 & rated 90 points: Annual Wino Round-up Party (L'Alliance Francaise Houston, TX): Nice shiraz in an interesting style. Still quite a bit of oak present but it was not overpowering.
